Whether he writes it or sings it, this man can turn any song into a clarion call, even when asking his audience to follow their own dreams.....
My dream, Boss, is to one day get to a state where I have the ability to acquire the rights to your songs to put in my movies... how about that for a dream Boss???
This is the song Elvis sang in 1962, but Bruce added new verse lyrics and rearranged it. The chorus is the same, and the second verse is essentially the same. Both versions are great, though very different.
All you commenters that are talking about Elvis are NOT listening to this video...this is NOT the song Elvis sang in the movie "Follow That Dream." What a beautiful song, nonetheless, Bruce...Bravo !!
BleachFan: I am not sure, but the song Nils performed may have been "Man at the Top" - a song he covered a lot back then, one he cited as a Bruce fave.
this song is not even close to elvis version except in title only. elvis was great but he had his own nich, while bruce has his. no judgement as to which singer was best.
I was at this concert in octyober 1986..Nils was there also and did a set. It was a song written by Bruce; however I can't remember the name...anyone out there have any thoughts? BTW Danny F is playing the accordian and Nils is on guitar on this song Follow Your dream (written by Bruce)
@Bleachfan604 Follow That Dream is not a Bruce song. It was originally performed by Elvis P in 1962 and was written for him by Fred Wise and Ben Weisman. Bruce changed the arrangement and a couple of lyrics but it's not his song.
@Bleachfan604 The song Nils did at the show was "Man at the Top" (released by Bruce on Tracks).
The Wise-Weisman song does share a paraphrased verse and chorus with Bruce's song. But if Bruce released it, it would certainly be credited to Springsteen (Lyrics and music) and Fred Wise (lyrics).
OH! That is beautiful. I love Elvis, but this isn't a song I have ever heard before, so I don't have a previous version in my head. But wow, what a great song and great performance. Lovely, thanks for posting it.
Hi - as far as I know this song is not on any of the officially released CDs; but it can be found on several bootlegs. The song was first played during the RIVER TOUR in 1981.
Spoken like someone who has most likely never accomplished anything noteworthy in life. And yes, this is personal. As for the rest... keep following those dreams - wherever they may go.
True. You have to be a moron to write something stinks when clearly it moves other people. It's ok to say I don't like it. I find this song sooooooo uplifting. Rock on bruce
Great Elvis song in a beautiful and personal Springsteen version.Who else picked up the Elvis dream but Bruce? In my book Bruce is second only to Elvis!
One of the most touching and meaningful songs I have ever heard. Especially ´cause I´m a big Springsteen fan this song really got me.
That´s what his whole intention of his songs is about: following a dream and not giving up! Doesn´t matter what will be up the road, everybody has a dream he has to reach!
I'm surprised he never released this song. I think it's lovely.

I have heard Bruce sing Elvis' "Follow That Dream," in concert -- as Elvis had done it -- but this track is not Elvis -- nothing to do with Elvis.

A classic performance by Bruce and the great Danny Federici on the accordian is sadly missed by all on E.Street.

Some people say that you shouldn't cover Elvis or make your own versions of any of his songs, but... I think that's kind o' bullshit...
'cause this is just amazing.

who is he covering...cause the lyrics are different from the elvis' follow that dream--aside from the chorus, of course.

I meant Elvis' song. And yeah, I know it has some different lyrics, but it's still technically a "cover".

I'm not sure I'd call it a cover since he makes so many changes to the lyrics, which were mildly maudlin in Elvis' original.

I'm a Huge Elvis Fan, but let's be honest: This version is a Pearl a Nugget, far far away from the "cheery Elvis film song", that was inspired.
This is a Five Star piece of music!!
Bravo Boss!
