In Reagan's case it was because he believed the world would be better without them. However, I dont think we shoudl ever retialite with nuclear weapons because i guarantee that woudl end the world. If a country signs the non-proliferation treaty but uses chem or bio weapons on us, will then force us to fight conventionally in retaliation, an approach that our enemies know that might break us economically. N. Korea with the silent backing of China would be one possible example.

He was wrong on the surge (he was against the policy until it was proven to work), wrong on the stimulus (he said that we would only see jobless rates hit 8 percent at the most), wrong on the health care (he said it would cut the deficit and that has been proven a lie), wrong in Iran, wrong in closing Gitmo, wrong on treating terrorists like citizens... the list go on and on!

The CBO estimates the health care bill to cut defecits so im not sure who told u it was a lie. Wrong in iran doesnt even say how or why so not sure what u mean. Since it is the presidents duty to uphold the constitution of the United States of America you could very easily argue it is the Presidents duty to defend Islam and Chritianity and Judasim, Paganism, Hinduism and all other religions and those who want to practice their faith peacfully. However, we are not talking about Reagan here and the issue is not that the Prez is reducing our nuclear arsenal. The issue is the motives behind the reduction. In Reagan's case it was because he believed the world would be better without them. In this instance it is another step in Obama's long winded apology to the world which is resulting in the weakening of our nation.

if something happens to the US and we retaliate with NUCLEAR BOMBS they will get pissed and most likely send nuclear bombs back at us... then we all die. I think nuclear bombs would be a good deterrent if the US was the only country with them and it was our job to police the world, but we aren't and it isn't. No one will send a biological or chemical weapon at the US without a reason or warning. The problem can be solved before it resorts to instantly sending nukes at them.

The disapproval is not so much towards the arms reduction, but that in the specific PUBLIC example given by the administration ( in which we are hit with bio/chemical weapons that kill thousands ) we would not respond to that country with nukes if they comply with IAEA nuclear policies. Basically, we open ourselves up to the world and say, hit us.... and we wont respond. We're sure as hell not gonna enter another after the mess in Bush's 2nd term, plus the fact we don't have the money for it

I never said I was qualified to asses our risk level. I was making a comment about a hypothetical situation presented by this administration. The whole concept of deterrence is that no state attacks because everyone loses. Taking that option off the table publicly, I feel is not smart.

However, I dont think we shoudl ever retialite with nuclear weapons because i guarantee that woudl end the world. Ive heard that 9 well placed hydrogen bombs can cause permanent, significant damge to the earths rotation. I think this bill basically made it so we'd only drop nukes when it is really necessary. And i honestly dont think that will ever happen.

If for some reason we did lose Boston to a nuclear attack from a big country, chances are it wouldnt be completely unexpected because the UN , congress and the world would have condemned this nation and been aware of this nation's intentions long before the bomb(s) got dropped. And so I think if we or anyone got nuked, we would still retialite and the voting would pass very quickly (in hours) through congress and the UN.

I think this is a good policy because we no longer live in a world where there is another a type of threat like there was in the cold war. And if there was a similar threat, this policy is designed to clearly keep the other country(s) under control without blowing them back to the stone age.

I dont know if this is true but I was watching the daily show and stewart said that part of this treaty ensures the right to use nukes against any country that attacks us with biological weapons. Som1 is clearly wrong here and until i get further info im trusting the daily show cuz it has more credibility than fox :)

The quote John used was from PBS and said "the U.S reserves the right to make any adjusment to this policy" in the case of biological weapons threats.

The news media aside (which really isn't the topic), the new nuke policy does not reserve the right to use nukes in the case of chemical or biological attack; that's the whole point and represents a shift that many policy experts regard as extremely dangerous.

@chargersblowify Is the caveat "the U.S. reserves the right to make any adjustment to this policy" supposed to surreptitiously make the rest of the world think that we really will use nukes in the case of chem/bio attacks? If so, why bother changing the policy in the first place? Finally, I point out that Presidential authorization is needed to use nukes. Obama has successfully cast doubt in the minds of many that he would use nukes in such cases. This will decrease the deterrent effect!

@ItsAllaSong The main point of the treaty is to reduce the size of the nuke aresenal really as a symbolic gesture that some day we might be able to be nuke free. Will that happen? Probly not. Will the gesture help when trying to stop other countries from getting nukes? Maybe a little. This brings me to my point about Fox. They arent credible because they practice willfull ignorance.

I DO really think that some of America's enemies are less deterred by the new policy-so do a lot of policy experts. If a country signs the non-proliferation treaty but uses chem or bio weapons on us, will then force us to fight conventionally in retaliation, an approach that our enemies know that might break us economically. N. Korea with the silent backing of China would be one possible example.
