hi there i just recently experienced this problem... if you do that to your iphone on an instance that the signal or reception on the place that youre in signal really dies so fast, i caompare it to my other phone and it has a stronger reception. but when i got into another place even if i do that deadgrip thing on the phone the reception may only drop one bar but not really come to the point that the signal dies.

The fact that the antenna issue is not a problem at all. It is really amazing how the media loves to dwarf such an amazing product. I've used the iphone 4 for more than month and i haven't had a drop call with or without a cover. You won't get a drop call unless you intentionally kill the signal. Even if your fingers gets on the antenna by accident you would still not get a drop call. I can't believe people today just get deceived so easily by the media. Ridiculous!

You dont wait nearly long enough, hold the phone by the corner where the antenna is for longer than 2 seconds, try 30.

i think the magnetic field of your hand and fingers are interfering with the antenna inside

the signals are going trew the little hole on the side.

cover the hole up with tape ,or open the iphone and close the hole with a little white kit.

that will look better then tape

Well let me tell ya guys when I bought the iPhone 4 I saw a lot of videos on you tube bout the signal bars dropping .. I tested up and results! I ended up with 2 bars after the software update I got 5 bars just sumtimes I get 4 bars but it comes back to 5 I guess ... It also depends on where u live at.. Or or maybe the cause of the droppin may be that u have other devices around u ... Idk it works great .. For me

Thanks for the update. Gotta say i'm surprised and disappointed with apple's latest iphone tho. I consider it their core product now and its got so much going for it but falls flat on a basic design flaw. i have the bumper for mine and still have issues.

I went to the Apple store today and tested the phone and I held it the way the signal drops and it was slightly going downwards, but then I held it midways like I normally hold an iPhone when I carry it and the bar stayed high which I found amazing. This is by far the best phone I've ever held my hands on. Played with the phone for nearly half an hour and it's screaming fast, lol. When they fix the issue with the antenna it's gonna be a revolution without a doubt.

i just read on Macdailynews that it's a software issue which they'll fix next week; earliest Monday. People were experiencing that issue with the iPhone 3GS too so this is nothing new. I'm still gonna get the phone and finally upgrade because I feel the iPhone 3G is too outdated for me, lol.

It's actually funny, though. I've seen a lot of videos that go, "See what happens when I put my hand directly on top of the GSM radio band? The signal drops, and I can't text or make a call." If it weren't so detrimental to my health, I'd make a video that went, "See what happens when I turn my head in the opposite of it's natural rest position? I die, and I can't live on or do anything I used to do while I was alive." lol maybe we advanced technology a bit too quickly ^-^
