how long was a LMS beyer garratt and i agree tht it is a shame tht they never preserved one. but if they preserved one would they be able to run it on heritage railways like the severn valley?
@jammydodgerwolves Ah but your wrong. There is one preserved in the Manchester Air & Space Museum and there is one due to be rebuilt at Crewe Heritage. Also the Festiniog Railway use one.
I should know Tim but I dont. It is owned by the Pendle & District Model Railway Club and obviously features what would have been a typical L&Y region layout before amalgamation of the railways.
i believe there are a fair number left and certainly some are working. MOSI in manchester have one, and there are examples world wide, one was restored to full working order in gambia i think, a few years ago. hope this helps
@TimEaston There is a Beyer-Garrett owned by Queensland Railways in Australia. Currently a static display at the Ipswich Workshops, but rumors say its being converted to oil burning.
Wonderful this one is! It's supposed to be a huge locomotive isn't it?

What is the name of the layout? It's a shame no Beyer-Garretts were preserved.
