Universal healthcare isn't free at all. You're literally paying for everyone's but your own healtcare through immensely raised taxes. Not only that, but in a universal healthcare system there are literally lines for hospitals. If your grandpa needed urgent heart surgery or care, he would have to wait about 2-3 months. Couldn't agree more. She supports universal, free health care and creating federal subsidies for people who can't afford it. She would require insurance companies to insure everyone without higher premiums for those with pre-existing conditions. How can we pay for this? No, they won't refuse treatment for something life threatening, however basic care is denied because that is not what emergency rooms are FOR. You don't have a routine doctor who knows your health and can tell what is happening from one visit to the next. And you get $1000s in medical bills if you go to the ER. Hospitals are not for routine care.

Bullcrap. I have lived under both systems and I would prefer the NHS to what we have back home which is essentially nothing. There is a major flaw in socialized health care. By giving free health care to families with low income - its wonferful, but it makes for a shortage, and there is a wait list. Patients could die as they wait for their medication. This is happening in Canada today. Could someone clear this up? Thanks.

I do have understanding, i think it's rediculous how expensive your treatment is. But the problem is insurance companies have cornered the market and caused the inflation of healthcare. Once upon a time you could pay out of pocket for services. and have full inpatient care instead of being rushed out the door with out any concern. Remember house calls. The insurance companies did away with that. We need to go back to basics, not complicate things with universal health care.
Wow...I am so sorry to hear this is being a burden on you.I am fortunate that healthcare where I live now does NOT cause me stress. Mothers are given one year off with 80% pay or 8 months with full pay. The dads are also alotted 3 months. This allows for full care of the new born. It is NOT for getting money, but just aid so that the Moms can stay home and take full care of raising their newborn. The aid is NOT for the "unresponsible" but for those who work and help make the community better.
I look forward to the responses. I hope the US can become a place where mothers are given a year off with pay to be with their new born and fathers will also have a rightful leave as well to help. (With pay for both)

Folks, if you'll just educate yourself about Universal Health Care instead of wasting time and server space making negative comments about it, you might learn that it's not really as bad as you think. Read about HR 676, there is nothing in the bill that says anything about the government telling you anything about your choice of health care. It's entirely up to you and your doctor. It's true, they do have a waiting list. But... they don't spend near as much on health care as we do. If they spent near what we do to improve their medical infrastructure, waiting lists would disappear.

My doc sent me for a sonogram and told me to come back in 2 wks. I said the sonogram won't be done in 2 wks. He said come back in 2 wks anyway. When I came back in 2 wks, he asked, "what are you doing here?" But he got paid for nothing anyway.

let people keep the average 33% of their income that is currently stolen from their paychecks every year. then they can afford to have excellent insurance, OWN their own home, pay their way through college, and never take out a mortgage or large loan. just like we did in the early part of the last century, before we had the IRS, you know, back when taxes could only pay for A LIMITED CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT.

There is absolutely no problem with healthcare. The people that slip through the cracks make too much money to be considered for government healthcare. If the need health insurance so badly then they can buy their own and be better off than those who get government money, or they can enough of their income to charity so that they qualify for gov. insurance. I shouldn't have to pay for your healthcare.

Do candidates consider "universal health care" a better option? Most countries with "government provided" health care give up 40-70% of their income to the system. Why? I think the average ER wait is 13 hrs! Want an ACL repair...6 months to never. One suggestion is: pass legislation to punish frivolous suits, and make it so doctors don't have to practice defensive medicine. Lower malpractice insurance, and the cost drops significantly. Which candidate can see past the "universal bandwagon?"

Im all for helping people. I help children learn to read. Ive helped the elderly in nursing homes, and i volunteer when i can. I do have understanding, i think it's rediculous how expensive your treatment is. But the problem is insurance companies have cornered the market and caused the inflation of healthcare. Once upon a time you could pay out of pocket for services. and have full inpatient care instead of being rushed out the door with out any concern. Remember house calls. The insurance companies did away with that. We need to go back to basics, not complicate things with universal health care.

Wow...I am so sorry to hear this is being a burden on you.I am fortunate that healthcare where I live now does NOT cause me stress. Mothers are given one year off with 80% pay or 8 months with full pay. The dads are also alotted 3 months. This allows for full care of the new born. It is NOT for getting money, but just aid so that the Moms can stay home and take full care of raising their newborn. The aid is NOT for the "unresponsible" but for those who work and help make the community better.
