  • I was a Sesame street fan since the beginning and I remember seeing this a few years later during my young brother's SS days and seeing that that magic was still there.

  • Why has no band coveredthis in recent history? Perhaps their just too young.

  • That cop owns the situation like a boss.

  • @MoulonStooge hahaha :)

  • I remember growing up as a young kid and dancing to this (1986 era) and now that I'm a grown mambo can now say.. That operator was a SNNNNiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiTCH!!!!! And who the heck could lift up a phone boot with 3 grown men and a young dude and str8 carry it away??!

  • WAAW.. I remember last seeing this as a kid (1986 or 1987) and looking back at it as a grown man. I can now say that that old lady was a SNiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiTCH!!!! LMAO

  • @TheBaje2011 I agree! But I'll always love "My New Computer"! Nostalgia and awesomeness all rolled up into one.

  • Im gonna call the operator and do this

  • "i'm hung up on ya baby" lmao

  • @MsBoy4ever I think they're a style parody of the 50s nostalgia pop/rock bands that were really big when this was made in the 70s. Sha Na Na, Racey, and Showaddywaddy are examples.

  • Love it! Miss old school Sesame...

  • the operator called them.....scallyrags....LOL

  • 26 people didn't get their call connected

  • This is my ringtone now

  • This was clearly taken from the Beach Boys cause the Bearded One is Dennis. And they were huge. Did she say scalawags? Wow! That would never be said on PBS today! This is fantastic! Real Live Wire! Ha!

  • I dance like the redhead lol

  • I love this song!

  • who the hell would dislike this..

  • @jaime12345620 A person without a childhood...

  • Am I wrong cause I loved the rocking telephone booth :/

  • I'm using this video to teach my kids how we used to make phone calls when away from home back in ancient times.

  • I blame sesame street for my hatred of cops and regard for furry monsters.

  • i remember having this record when i was a kid!! classic....

  • Sadly Kids today wouldn't know a telephone booth from a VCR.

  • @derocket88 my 8 year old found a cassette tape with some other jun k in the basement. He was really perplexed by it.

  • I loved this song when I was a kid. The best part was how they keep rocking the phone booth.

    No pun intended.

  • they cut the beginning

  • OMG..I have not seen this in 25 years!!!!

  • operator, could you help me place this call?

  • Which would you rather have call you up, Little Jerry and the Monotones singing this song, or a telemarketer?

  • lÕl_Î_fEEl_sò_löñElý_tÖdãY

  • 2:30 "You know it only costs a dime."

And here I am paying $80 a month for AT&T like a sucker!

  • what would the cobra commander do, in this situation

  • now I feel old :(

  • Before Lady Gaga there was sesame street!

Why does the muppet remind me of Bon Jovi?

  • Comment removed

  • Good grief, I never thought I'd ever hear this song again! And yes, there is more musical talent in this song than there is in today's Lady Gaga world!

  • @eelaynuh I watch this when I was a kid and I'm 34 so this has to be out way before the 90's

  • @Krle79 Yea, I'll be 34 in a few months myself! I remeber this from when I was very little. This is from Sesemee St's greatest years - the 1970's!

I am so thankful for YouTube...I have found sooo many TV shows/commercials/childrens programs that were burried deep down in the back of my memory - things I thought I would never see again, EXCEPT for in my memory! There are also many things I completely forgot about until finding them on YouTube!

  • The song was from the 1974-1975 season and first broadcast on the 5th of February 1975. One of the oldies in Sesame Street terms, but probably the best of all the songs muppets did on Sesame Street and definitely the best performed by Little Jerry and the Montones.

  • ¡¡Spaniard version, pleaseeeeeeeeee!! This is Real Revolution

  • Def not early 70s. This one was new when I was a kid. Early 90s maybe?

  • @eelaynuh This was def 70s. I watched this on t.v. round about when I was 7 and that was back in 78.

  • @eelaynuh This was around in the late 1970's when I was a kid - probably from 1976-78, maybe even earlier.

  • 24 dislikes? i guess Oscar uses youtube...

  • this shit just blew my fucking mind.

  • brings back great memories

  • didn't kids get in trouble for doing this to operators? hahahaaaa!

  • lol, i like the blue hobo

  • who would "dislike" this? idiots, that's who. they must hate fun.

  • it must have been cramped in that space for the puppeteers. so much for personal space.

  • i'm gonna cry :'(

    i wish i was a kid again

  • @pepperfart feel the same way wish kids today knew abt dis..

  • how i miss the old sasame street ROCK ROCK

  • there are 22 people in a world of 6 billion that hate this song

  • I dont know why i been thinking about this song all day had to look for it after 20 years lmao

  • P.S. The old lady sounds like Adam Sandler when he plays an old lady on SNL.

  • This song is catchy as hell.

  • because of that old lady they are going to be singing jailhouse rock soon.... :(

  • @skull7878

I am always amazed by the senses of humor of the people who come to this site!

  • wow im a kid again lol the 80s was great for kids tv

  • Oh man, when I was a kid that shaking phone booth at the end was the funniest thing in the world.

  • This actually blows away anything on the radio today. Hear that radio ring!!

  • i'm hung up on ya baby ROFL heheh this still rockz!!

  • I remember this! Sesame Street is not like it use to be. Now they're banning things Like Katy Perry and Elmo. These over-protective parents need to get a grip!

  • Sadly there is more musical talent in this song than most songs on the radio currently

  • @woobusmallard Hahahahahaha....so true.

  • @woobusmallard So true!

  • @woobusmallard It sucks don't it? I miss the 70's so much.

  • Awesome.

  • How on earth can you not like this? 21 people have no sense of good music or humor...

  • still the same after all these years

  • Wow it's been a long time since I've seen a rotary pay phone! Wasn't it great when the operator called after you hung up asking for more money when you talked too long? (yes that really used to happen)

  • I'm 20 nearly 21 and I still love all these classic Sesame Street

  • Rock, rock, rock the telephone rock.

  • Classic! Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • always a classic

  • MEMORIES BOI THIS REAL BAD

  • can anyone tell me where i can get the song for this video i would really like it as a ringtone.

  • Lol...it sounds like Elton John...

  • @MiyahSummer

Maybe this song was inspired by Elton John.

  • love watching these classic shows & songs ,I'm glad to know that @ 36 yrs old that it's o.k in the comfines of my home..... Plus my 5yr old likes them as well & you don't have these good songs on the new shows...

  • Real good song-- very retro rock-n-roll :D

  • I loved that song. A telephone booth with a rotary phone , That's something you won't see any of both out on the street these days. I'm sure there's a museum some place that actually has one of those ancient things on display.

  • yes they having trouble getting through

  • OLD SS SONGS

  • "There's those wipersnappers that kept calling me up"

I like the way the policeman hauls them off inside a telephone booth. Must be a strong policeman.

  • Sniff Sniff Wow amazing!!

  • I'm 20 years old and I still love Sesame Street songs

  • we need cops like that at the border!

  • This deff Rock's. Sounds almost like a Song the "Five Man Electrical Band" would have wrote in the 70's.

  • R.I.P Old SS, Haha

  • This is truly classic. LOL I love it.

  • On youtube you could find memories of your past & love them

  • That lead puppet has some hair. *flick*

  • I have not seen this since I was 5.

Thanks so much for the post.

  • *insta-rocks-out*

  • This has been stuck in my head all day!!

  • if only the federal stimulus money that barry gyped us out of were spent this effectively.................

  • I loved this Sesame Street clip when I was a kid, but I always got scared when the telephone booth started swinging and rocking while they were all inside.

  • You know if this was real...this must look incredibly wierd

  • This song is awesome, we had the best Sesame Street

  • Remember the Operator?

    Dial "0" for Operator.

She's the person you'd call for assistance, as in "Please check the number and dial again, or ask the operator for assistance. This is a recording."

She's the one who would ask the other party to accept a collect call

She's the one who could "interrupt a busy signal" in an emergency.

She's the one who'll call the police if you prank-call her. You can prank-call anyone else, but only the Operator had your phone number.

    Ah, the good old days.

  • i watched sesame street during the late 80's/early 90's and luckily! they were reruns from the 70's

  • I just had to explain t hat the box was a telephone booth! I loved this segment.

  • I loved this song so much as a kid i used to sing the song from time to time.

  • I remember this

  • I <3 this song!

This tape was my favorite...I would get excited when this song would come on!

    =]

  • I was not born or even the slightest bit around during the 70's but it has been around in the mid 80's in reruns as many of the songs, bits, and segments such as bert and earnie, two headed monster and the like this song wants me to be four and five years old again.

  • @LincolnHeightsrocks

That is a very amusing idea my You Tube friend!

  • RIP Olivia. Dead at 63.

  • WOW!!! Classic

  • This was the version I saw on the Rock 'n Roll video when I was girl. That was the time I first "met" Little Jerry and the Monotones, and heard this song. I don't think that purple wolf (Jackman Wolf) ever scared me.

To be honest, I like the full version of Telephone Rock better. Oh, and the album version, too.

  • Lol, what a coincidence, that's also how I first saw LJATM. :P

I also saw them in the "Exit" sketch, and the Monotones singing back-up for Don Music in "Mary Had A Bicycle", but I never really knew it was actually them, lol.

  • Oh, wow! We both had the same experience! :-P

And I saw them in Mary Had a Bicycle, too! I didn't know who they were either when I was little.
