i play euphonium and what do you think happens when i bring it to the instrument shop for yearly maintenance? THEY GIVE IT SOMETHING CALLED A BATH...and since everyone has had a bath i wont go into details about what this is...lmao...same goes with many other brass instruments including trumpets and trombones..this was amusing and different...not stupid or idiotic... =)

no we are not idiots. i am a brassman myself and i know that to give a brass instrument a bathy, one REMOVES the valves and slides from the body of a valved instrument, soak the body and slides in hot water with a mild detergent. the valves need to be dry scrubbed, oiled, and when all slides have been greased, and the body dried out, reassemble the instrument.

i thought brass instruments were cleaned out by immersing them in water, i can understand what it might do to a saxophone or clarinet with the bits of cork, etc that can be really messed up by water, but i wouldn't see how it could really affect brass instruments.

I think it does some damage if you use a trigger trombone but I'm not totally sure. If you do it do it with an instrument that you borrow from the school or buy one for really cheap at a pawn shop

the brass are cool because you can do that kind of thing and it won't do a thing to the instruments.

Your only concern might be about the chlorine damaging the liqour of the metal, but at normal the pool levels all it would really due is kill all the germs in your waterkeys

unless of course there is prolonged exposure in which case it woudl definantly do something to the finish
