im in college, i heard of active and passive voice about every year in high school, college, and last of grade school. but i wouldnt make fun of this guy or anyone else that didnt know it because a lot of people dont know the parts of sentences. i know a lot of people that cant tell you what an adverb, infinitive, gerund, or particliple is.

verb= is what you do. I have remembered that since 1st grade.

To be fair, this guy probably hasn't studied adverbs, verbs, nouns, or adjectives since grade school, which was decades ago for him. And the word "gender" was used far more often then "voice" during that period.

Therefore, this may have been the first time this individual had heard of "active voice" or "passive voice" used in this context. Same with his mother-in-law, which is likely even older than him.
