Use tabs from cans with colored tabs, or you can paint them. Also, embossing powder works, and, I hear, Sharpies work, too.

I used a non-elastic cord thinner than the one in the video and it took a while to figure out the pattern, but even when i figured it out, the cord would get stuck on the other tabs and everything, but it was for my best friend so it was worth it :D

yes, absolutely! You will just have to make the bracelet a bit longer to make up for the lack of stretch. Then, either tie on or add a clasp.
