My Aunt used to teach a special needs class and I have heard horror stories about kids picking on her students and no one defending them in any way and I can see how it would be very frustrating and could drive someone to such extremes.

She definitely overreacted in an extremely inappropriate and unprofessional manner, but I would be willing to bet that it is the result of having to witness these children make fun of and pick on special needs children for too long.

I teach.....and teacher's should be professional at all times...but when put under constant stress and not being trained or experienced enough to handle certain situations a persons will act in survival mode....not to mention principles who frown upon teachers who send students to the office.....so what do you do now...I've just started my second year and the greatest lesson I learned from students is that if they're not engaged or having fun...they will find it at the teacher's expense!!!!

The work is not for the weak of heart and neither is the work for those without the sense to realize children left alone in a classroom will "entertain" themselves.
Teaching does not involve beatings. This is common behavior for teachers at Jamie's House Charter School. I think the teachers and students become desensitized to violence b-c violence is common.

First off I want to say that I am in no way condoning or praising what the teacher did, but if that kid is going to make fun of a handicapped student he should be punished in some way. She definitely overreacted in an extremely inappropriate and unprofessional manner, but I would be willing to bet that it is the result of having to witness these children make fun of and pick on special needs children for too long.

I teach.....and teacher's should be professional at all times...but when put under constant stress and not being trained or experienced enough to handle certain situations a persons will act in survival mode....not to mention principles who frown upon teachers who send students to the office.....so what do you do now...I've just started my second year and the greatest lesson I learned from students is that if they're not engaged or having fun...they will find it at the teacher's expense!!!!

The work is not for the weak of heart and neither is the work for those without the sense to realize children left alone in a classroom will "entertain" themselves.
Teaching does not involve beatings. This is common behavior for teachers at Jamie's House Charter School. I think the teachers and students become desensitized to violence b-c violence is common.
