  • I love this song, it's bloody beautiful.

  • this song makes me think about what the world has come too and that if i could just stop and embrace its existance for everyone ive ever met or known, to share it with them.......such a stoner thing to say but i love this song and band

  • its strange but i like almost all there albums the hard ones and even these soft ones their just amazing when it comes to write and play music and im so happy that there not that mainstream to there just unbelievably good....

  • agreed. thrice are just a brilliant band, always progressing, whatever their style of music, they always nail it. but just for the record artist in the ambulance remains my favourite

  • epiphones are built by gibson, only the electronics and the name on them are slightly different, they're great guitars and cost a lot less

  • Great song. :]

  • I wasn't a fan of the Earth album at all except for this song. It's just beautiful, no other way to describe it.

  • epiphone guitars are great if u pay for a good one, like a casino

  • did they write the lyrics to this song? they played this song at church today.

  • yes they write everything

  • fantastic song. i appreciate the talent as well.

  • I've heard it 5 times, and I can't stop crying....

  • i never even noticed the pictures in the background move...haha awesome

  • great song!

  • wow. first epiphone ive ever seen in a music vid.

  • Vampire Weekend - Oxford Comma

Only other vid I've seen with an Epiphone.

  • They have been my favorite band for almost 10 years.... I love to watch and appreciate their progress from project to project.

  • Boring music video. Great song.

  • lol i dont know whether to thumbs up or thumbs down haha

  • man, i always thought during the chorus that was dustin dubbed singing, but the main voice you hear is teppei! wow!

  • i ve got to discover Thrice not long ago, and i gotta tell, i myself am a pure headbanger, would rather listen to their latest stuff like Vheissu. it feels definatly more mature. none the less i still go nuts playing Deadbolt on G.Hero 5.

  • I am fairly new to Thrice too. And I agree, I love the maturity in their latest music. The new album "Beggars" is rocking my world right now.

  • yeah, so vheissu definitely was the album BEFORE the alchemy index, fyi

  • FRAEKING LOVE IT

  • if you cant jam this song you aint right

  • agreed!

  • That's so cool how the tremolo on the amp fades back into the ducks at the end. This is probably Thrice's best video, or a close second to Red Sky...

  • Really it doesn't sound like his solo stuff. It sounds like Thrice doing a really good ballad.

    Just saying...

  • I think this song was for his solo stuff. It was with his solo touring where i first heard this.

I was actually surprised thrice decided to use this.

  • Thrice has always had religious undertones in their lyrics and music.. It's no secret that all members of the band are Christians, and religion plays a role in every aspect of their lives.. which should be reflected in their expression of art. This song is beautiful, and Thrice has done a wonderful job in expressing their own interpretations of life through their various sounds from their debut album, Identity Crisis, to the Alchemy Index. It's been a pleasure to watch them grow.

  • Not all the band members are christians. lol

It's pretty well just Dustin and Teppei.

But you are definitely correct that almost all his writings have a christian message somewhere in them.

  • forget artist in the ambulance... how about identity crisis? or the illusion of safety.... i love what thrice has become, but i miss songs like phoenix ignition, in your hands, a subtle dagger, deadbolt, and the red death

  • the evolution of thrice is awesome but i think illusion of safety is by far my favorite... but considering all the heavy in that album, i think "so strange i remember you" is one of their best

  • have u ever heard the live version they did on the "if we could only see us now" ep?

  • i think every great band has that one "epic", and the live version of so strange i remember you is definitely in the running to be thrice's "epic"

  • it's absolutely beautiful! a friend of mine hated everything else they did, wasnt into the old stuff nor the new stuff, but when i played that for him, he was absolutely stunned!

  • Surely if you support them, then you should be open to the changes they make as a band?

    Just enjoy the music

  • lol, i love all Thrice's music. No arguments here! 5/5

  • you people think about music in the completely wrong way. it's not about the "genre" or the "sound", it's about the message and the meaning. just know that and you won't look like an idiot in front of people who know music

  • A shimmer in the darkness, this comment.

  • A'men...If you can feel it in your bones, then it's good music!

  • i would like to disagree with you. respectively of course.

i believe that music is all about the sound. but i do think that the meaning definitely adds to the greatness of the song.

  • oh you're absolutely right, i was just stressing that meaning is quite important too. one thing about thrice though is that even when they try out a different sound, it still sounds like thrice. like i can play deadbolt and wood and wire consecutively and you can tell it's the same band. i love it

  • thrice can be whatever they want to be. i like everything they've ever put out

  • how the fuck is this remotely screamo?

  • Indeed... I mean, even in they're older stuff they weren't screamo. Yeah they screamed, but they never belonged in the screamo genre. This song is not screamo by any stretch of the word. It lacks screaming and it lacks that screamo stereotypical drop d chugging with the occasional minor second on guitar with a ridiculous amount of double kick on drums...

  • yep, far too diverse of a band to be labeled

  • Someone is obviously a musical idiot.

  • Millhouse: Despite the fact Thrice weren'6t screamo (don't bother reading Thrice lyrics to try and justify yourself because; 1) you probably haven't grasped the metaphor, and 2) if you did you wouldn't be able to justify yourself)

How can you 'dress up' a musical genre as something else. If Miles Davis had released a heavy metal album it wouldn't be jazz in disguise would it? It would be heavy metal you cretin.

  • this is a great song; thrice is a band of musicians who are genuinely good people. they aren't assholes

  • thats cool and imma let you finish but i think Beyonce had the Best video of the year...im just sayin

  • hahahaha well played

  • i actually laughed ouy loud to that one XDDD

  • what the? what are you saying nobody pushes nobody to nothing .oo. is there someone pointing a gun for you to listen to the song?? crazy people!

  • that dude workin out with the tractor... epic

  • It's your choice to listen to the song or not, there is no 'pushing' anything down anyone's throats happening here.

They cannot help but reference the bible, it's changed their lives. They're being genuine and that is of ultimate importance.

  • Whats wrong with them having a Christian song. It is not pushing it down your throats as one person said. There is choice involved with it.

  • ...classic, soulful as heaven.

  • Amen, Dustin.

This song and video is great!

  • i don't know whether i like that comment of not hahaha

  • lol what i meant to say was they got a lot softer not pussied out.

  • to all asshats saying that I don't respect the song... I like this song, so much so that its one of the ones I learned how to play and sing.

But I don't like it when songs have lyrics that I won't be able to identify with in this lifetime. That a problem?

And yes this song is about Christianity, not spirituality, just like The messenger, hold fast hope, and many others.

  • "And yes this song is about Christianity, not spirituality, just like The messenger, hold fast hope, and many others."

    Please don't be a bigot.

The point you were looking for was, "This song is about finding an emotional or mental center with which brings relief."

Yet another missionary trying to shove Christianity down the throats of the masses.

  • Matthew 11:30

    some how thats not christianity?

  • lol the lyrics to this song are taken from Matthew 11:30... out of the Bible... but i agree there is nothing wrong with finding your own meaning for the song.

after all if you aren't able to do that, then the song means nothing anyway right?

  • ... great reading comprehension there. I'm not shoving Christianity down anyone's throats, though Dustin MAY be and that's what I'm disconcerted with.

I don't believe in christianity or anything close to it. No god will save us. We must save ourselves.

  • We must save ourselves? we're doin a pretty good job of that so far huh?

  • He's not shoving christianity down anybodys throats. He's just singing some verses out of the bible, it's not liek "youll all go to hell because you dont like Jesus!!". I mean.. c'mon.. you're awfully touchy yknow...

  • Just curious... how do we, as you said, "save ourselves?" I want to hear your explination.

  • so why bother saying this on a music video? your entitled to an opinion but on a songs video? feel free to start that conversation on a blog or message board but there really isnt any point in arguing about christianity on a music video.

  • Some one should disable comments for this song. Just enjoy the music and stop debating about pointless conflicts.

  • You can argue that it's about the Bible and all, but I think the music is more powerful in a spiritual aspect. I'm not religious, I guess you could call me agnostic, but I think this music does more for your spirit by accepting yourself in the world and understanding yourself. Yes Dustin is Christian as well as other bandmates, but their lyrics aren't meant to influence their Christian ideals, they're more about the stand-alone idea of faith, not faith in God or any other figures in the Bible.

  • agnostic doesn't mean non-religious.

  • there is no argument here about whether or not the lyrics are Biblical. See: Matthew 11:28-30. Some of the lyrics are right out of this passage.

  • thats right....false deities will bring ignorance upong us...

  • Dustin was inspired to write this song while walking thru the streets of Amsterdam, according to the vinyl edition.

    Great stuff.

  • is there anywhere online i can see the liner notes?

  • wow another great song wrecked by debate about shit that is none of our business, what happened to enjoying the music?

  • Dustin is Christian, the band is not.

AND WHY THE FUCK DOES IT MATTER ANYWAY?

  • 1st off this songs incredible. The Bands not "a christian band" But the Guys are all Christians. and uh ya its beautifull to be able to convey such emotion so passionately but it does matter what there saying though. And a good message makes it all the more beautifull.

  • this is to everyone that posted a comment: it's music. chill. it's not telling you what to do. if you don't like, shut it off n shut up. if you like it, listen to it n enjoy. to the pro-war person: soldiers die in the middle east because other people shoot them, not because of their beliefs. not every soldier is religious. some of them even throw puppies off cliffs. oh, and more ppl died on the beaches of normandy fighting other christians known as nazis.

  • I'm agnostic, and don't care if they're a Christian band. It wouldn't make or break my opinion about them.

  • Props to you! People are morons if they can't respect art regardless of its purpose or focus. The fact that they are passionate about something is a beautiful thing. It doesn't matter what. The purpose of communication is to convey a feeling, to relate. I personally don't think you can read their lyrics and deny that they are a Christian group. I think it's obvious, but you can't let that blind you from seeing it as quality music. People try too hard to hate Christianity. It's just ignorant.

  • well said

  • They're, um, not a Christian band, though. This -song- is technically speaking a Christian song. The band is Post-Hardcore.. in language that we can actually understand--they're Alternative and Experimental rock.

  • I would have guessed they were a christian band, but I can't always be right, lol.

  • Same. I've even found myself to be fond of Stellar Kart.

  • who the hell is persecuting christians??? Wow your a fuckin idiot!! Christians die every day in places like Iraq and Saudi Arabia for the things they believe!!

  • hey pal, Christians have been dying for roughly 2 thousand years in more places than just Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Once upon a time, Christians even started a war campaign called the Crusades. And I do believe this current fight is over "terrorism", not religion. And if they really did believe in Christianity to the letter, they would be over here, turning the other cheek. And Muslims die everyday for being Muslim. Take the log out of your eye.

  • Look past the form of things.

  • I don't think thrice is a christian band, I think they are a spiritual band. Dustin uses biblical imagery because thats what he knows best, but none of the themes in their music are exclusively christian, most are just about man trying to find his spiritual self. Whether you Christian, Muslim, Hindu, or even atheist you can still be a "Spritual" person.

  • Atleast this one isn't as christian as Image of the Invisible, lol who the hell is persecuting the christians to give them the fucking right to be angry? Seems like Dustin has the whole thing backwards.

First time I heard this song I thought it was a universal song about helping your fellow man, but after noticing bible verses in the lyrics, I realized this song is about nothing other than jesus, jesus, and our savior. Jesus.

On another note, its a good song.

  • this song is all kinds of amazing.

  • Very powerful song

  • Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you...for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

    Matthew 11:28-30

  • most beautiful album yet, sure have come a long way since identity. Matured just as I have.

  • this is the best song i've heard in a long time

wow this band is still very underrated and for doing what they want to do..hahaha THIRCE!!! i love it

  • can't wait for the new album eeeek so excited

  • "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

    --Matthew 11:28

such a simple verse that explains so much. Great song.

  • who would have guessed these guys have christian lyrics in their songs?

  • these guys could make mariachi sound cool.

  • what are you talking about mariachi is cool :P

  • the coolest band ever!!

  • beautiful

vheissu was a great album as well

alot of Christ related songs like For Miles

and Like Moths to Flame which is sung about Peters denial

  • For Miles? Could you explain?

  • sure

the song starts off saying scars will dissapear

well christians believe that when jesus comes for us all our scars and wounds will go away and we will have a new body and everything will change

then another verse says all our fears will go away which is also another belief

and of course the chorus pretty much says it all it refers to jesus saying theres no greater love than the one shed his blood for his friends

since jesus shed his blood and died for all of us

    get it

    read the lyrics:)

  • one of the best songs i have ever heard in my life...this is great

  • ever since i heard this song at my best friends funeral. i saddens me to listen to this song!

  • They also played this at my uncles funeral last week. I feel the same.

  • It's like how some bands make a song that is really good and stands out from the album because it's different.

    But it's a whole album?

  • his voice got better

  • Fucking awesome.

  • Such a great song, it just radiates a soothing and comforting aurora. A feeling described in this song really needs to exist in the real world, I am far too tired.

  • yikes... you can also get the feeling if you go on a hike through the forest, surf, get your endorphins going man...

  • ya know, i never really listened to thrice but i randomly saw this video and the lyrics and music are fantastic. i must listen to more from them.

  • yes they are ... but you might be surprised most of their stuff isn't like this... their older stuff is pretty heavy and fast but still pretty awesome

  • its cool how they've been giving to charities ever since theyve been a band.

  • Since im seriously listening to music for the past 6 years, a lot of bands (A LOT) have passed, they came and they went. Thrice however, is still there after 6 years and my all time favorite. Theyre magnificent and rule music in its very definition.

    Greetings.

  • thrice is the greatest band

  • i have friends in youth group that do this song, it's awesome! nice to see the original!

  • Oh me too!! That's why I looked this song up hahaha XD

  • pretty chill song

  • Comment removed

  • oh crap.. i accidentaly rated it a one star.. i didnt mean to click it..

  • i hate it when i do that sometimes :(

  • Sonds Like Thrice Is Doing Gods Work.

  • oops..i tried to reply on an older post..it was saying to listen to a certain bands wich in his opinion looked like thrice...wich was ofcourse in not any way true :p

But ofcourse Thrice is amazing :)

  • so many songs on the new cd give me chills when i listen to them still

  • oh my! me too!

  • it took me a while to get use-to new thrice but honestly this stlye of music fits them

  • amazing Matt 11:28-30

  • awesome song... thrice are amazing, all the albums by them are great, no one is bad...

thank you thrice for givin us your music

  • love this song

  • One of the best Thrice songs.

  • I am an avid fan of Anything THRICE!

Every album, DVD, & Video is pure art.!

I've seen them more times than I can count. I even named my daughter from lyrics of theirs! They are the real deal. BEST BAND EVER... PERIOD!

This video is great like ReinkeEric saidnice and simple... just 4 guys and teir music! Perfection is Thrice!

  • Simple perfect.

  • perfect its nothing... beyond magnificent...

  • it transcends above all other songs...

    ooo! beat that! lol.

  • nobody can beat that. :P

  • thrice always senses to amaze me. and after listening to every album of theres i ask myself "how are they going to top this one?" and then i hear the newest album from them and somehow they do. This is why I love thrice so much.Shoot they even inspired me to grow out my beard. lol (and of course my laziness of not wanting to shave). haha

  • What a great vid. Simple, direct and raw. Nicely done. Love you Thrice.

  • I've been listening to Thrice since TAITA came out when I was thirteen. I've always liked them but I'm able to appreciate them much more now than I did six years ago. They are truly one of my favorite bands. I really think all of The Alchemy Index is their masterpiece and I am so glad that they released it.

  • TAITA is good, but if you haven't heard The Illusion of Safety you're missing out ;)

  • agreed.

  • idk, i wish they had the quality of artist for their past albums. cause that was by far the highest quality sound...well, idk, depends, cause vheissu and alchemy had different sounds, but if you want plain old rock, then artist has the best quality in my mind

  • TAITA is actually there worst album.. and i am one of the biggest fans of thrice..... its not the songs.. not the lyrics, not the music...... but the mixing and producing..... i even was relieved to hear dustin say in an interview how he hated how it was produced... you can really tell if you compare.... but they perform them live EPICLY.. and they are beautiful songs... but quality wise... id say teppei's work is the best ive seen on any album.

  • a lot of artists feel this way. My favorite artist, Elliott Smith, felt the same. He didn't like how robotic and perfect everything sounded with a major label so he left to find an engineer who could provide a more human feeling.

Feels like Thrice did the same thing. I love the new stuff more. There's more emotion built in

  • hi jess:]

  • HI SAM!

  • Turely a GREAT song. I have experienced first hand what it is to find rest for my soul and it truely is something that when it happens your life changes forever because one is no longer living for him/herself but rather for the One that gave his life for us and that is where one finds true purpose and meaning to their lives.

  • It is amazing to see how far Thrice has come from their early days. They are awesome.

  • what's great, is that you can still find meaning in their old stuff, and you can always identify them by their sound. no one sounds like or better than they do

  • have you seen their first show on their first dvd? they dont even move. but now the flow is rockin!!!

  • i wonder if they grew beards just for this vid

  • Dustin and Teppei seem to have been sporting the beards for a while, so I don't think so.

  • Ye, really good song and band but I liked the old way much more. this is a blues, isnt it?

  • it's not exactly blues, but it's blues-ish, i'd say its more... folk..rock? I don't know what i'd label it as.

  • Fucking awesome omg, best song every written, pure fucking genius I love thrice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i can remember blasting identity crisis in my basement nearly 10 years ago. still listening to thrice a decade later

  • haha yeah, same here.

I got into them trough artist ita, i find out every song of them is great, and through the years, this is the best that remains my favorite.

    They are genius

  • as a band, no. personally, yes

  • there personality sure shows through there music though

  • Dustin has such a beautiful voice. :)

  • Dustin Kensrue is a genius...Just saw him on the Where's The Band? Tour in Pittsburgh. So much hidden in depth stuff in his music and writing...a lot of stuff people dont even realize. Like how on each closer on the alchemy index cd's are all perfect sonnets.

  • I love their old stuff but I'm in love with their new sound...

Every single one of their albums change as they become more mature and diverse with their sound

I saw them with Circa Survive...

  • I miss the old Thrice too

  • thrice is a musically diverse band I know its hard for you to believe but some bands dont just play heavy stuff all the time it just shows how amazing they really are when they can make a really heavy album and then make an ambient mellow one

  • I really like the tone on Teppei's electric.

  • I miss the old Thrice
