And if you read "the law" like you keep repeating like a high school reporter, you'd know that the 1st amendment states that YES, the press is allowed in public areas. However, being the press you are ALSO a civilian. You are not fire department, police, or emergency response personnel, meaning that if THEY ORDER an area sanctioned off, you have no argument. You have the right to report it, not the right to do whatever you feel like doing. You need to go back to school and really 'study' the law
If you want to get shot by a crazed criminal they've holed up or something, that's up to you. Usually you're told to stay away from somewhere because your life is in danger. You're doing your job (supposedly), and they're following their job by telling you what the fire commander told THEM.
Then again, if you feel it's your "1st amendment right" to stand on a bomb and film it, despite warnings that it's an explosive device... Then I guess you're right. Nobody can stop you.
Sure, like the "free speach zones" 2 and a half blocks away from the conventions in DC. When Uniformed SWORN Peace Officers remove you from the area where you are excercising your rights, and force you to go to another area to excersize your rights, they are in effect, claiming that the Constitutional rights do not apply to the area you were in first! Are there stipulations in the Constitution stating that you can only excersize your rights where sworn officials allow you to? If so, correct me.
Just cause you can be there doesn't mean you have to be an ass and stay. Respect people's privacy. (would expand the comment but i cant tell what happened)
It's true it's against the law to segregate the press from public areas but they were just asking you to step out of the way so they could do their job. You're just being a hard ass about it.
i did do my research. and no its not "against the law" they are asking you just to get the hell out of the way so stop saying oh well i have every right to be here and its my first amendment right. no heres the amendment : impeding the free exercise of religion, infringing on the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble. it says nothing about the police asking you to move
@snowjocky you fail to understand segregating the press from public areas is AGAINST THE LAW. Before you make a comment like that, do some research. There's something called the First Amendment. It's a delicate law overzealous authority types like to trample over often.....dude.
dude i have watched both of your videos of police or security "infringing" on your rights but none of them said anything about you not being able to take pics or videos they simply asked you to do it in another location with the rest of the press simple as that like in the video of Media Restriction at UNMH he just asked you to move to the other side of the street thats it he didnt care if you took a video he just wanted you out of the way. Get over yourself
you win! ;)
