the monitors size must be 24" or something, but ABSOLUTELY Full HD 1920x1080p FULL IMAX Extreme 3D. You MUST have a 3D Ready TV to play GTAVII in The Future.
Is there a mount that can conveniently put a setup into 5x1 portrait? Preferably with angle adjustment. That's my primary struggle with designing a 5x1 setup right now.
So, 'bezel' correction handles the missing 'space' between each monitor? Is there an angle correction option too if your outer monitors are swiveled? Also, it seems that portrait is a better option than landscape mode for SLI, do you know if its possible to shave off some of the plastic on the top and bottom of each monitor without destroying them? Does anyone have a viable technique?
@Ragnark1 I started off with landscape eyefinity and after a week or 2 I finally found out how to switch to 3z portrait just for the fun off it I thought. I think I went about 20 minutes back to landscape ever since. I'm playing in portrait for months now and it works so much better than landscape...never going back...this is awesome gaming!!!
thats cool man. but i couldnt play with all that bezel space... i run dual unlocked 6950s in crossfire on 3 23" samsung px2370s 5760x1080 res and its sexy as hell. only has 1/4 inch between screens after plastic bezel is taken off the screen.
out of curiosity, did you use a display port daisy chain setup, splitter, or did you get a card with 5 different outputs?
@kenshin304 It's possible and depending on the games preferred in order to keep higher graphic settings without loosing frames. For setups like this most game enthusiast crossfire or triple crossfire either 6950's or 6970's rather than using one or two 6990's to save cash for the little difference in frames.
@Username93611 Considering the highest resolution you can watch is what ever your screen is....I'm assuming you use a 1080 monitor, so it doesn't matter how much he zooms in, you can't see at a greater resolution than your screen is.
You completely misunderstood my point. We have 1080p resolution video, yet the camera stays zoomed out to viewing all the monitors at once. If they zoomed in onto one monitor, we could see the additional detail in that smaller area. Also, your assumptions about my monitor, as well as my knowledge of how digitized video, resolution and the like work... was incorrect and unfounded.
@Username93611 I assumed you used 1080 because it is a very common resolution, what do you use? 1200p 1600p? eyefinity? And my assumptions were as founded as they could be with what prior knowledge I had (Which in this case is none). And in your first comment you said nothing about additional detail, you said specifically "to show the resolution" which is why I posted my first comment. And yes, I clearly misunderstood your point, but I think it was founded a little bit.
@yonathandavid11 Just a simple question, what resolution is that monitor?
The advantage with an eyefinity or tripple screen setup is not monitor size, but usable resolution, in other words you get a wider field of view and your peripheral vision works.
So far I haven't seen any monitors or heard of any that offers around the res of tripple and more monitors.
What stand/mounting setup are you using? It seems quite complex to me without spending $450 for my 3 monitors I'm getting soon - and I'd love to do this eventually.
@meuhey It can do 5x. The reference 6990 only has five outputs. I'm not sure what the performance would be at max res. You'd probably need two for playable framerates. You can see my benchmarks at 5x1920x1080p on the WSGF review.
Although i agree monitors with bezels are a pain, but with the options thats available right now we don't have a choice. Imagine even IF they have some for the consumer next year, would you buy it if it's sky rocket high? higher than samsung md230x3? wait until they become common? it's going to take quite some time after a new technology comes out before the prices can be purchasable, so wouldn't we just stick with this until then?
Beautiful setup! Are those Dell U2410s? Never seen 5 monitors in portrait mode! Looks absolutely stunning. I will join WSGF soon and post a few pics of my setup as well. What GPU setup are you running in this video? And, are you going to be running AMD 6990s in CrossFire now? Or are you waiting, like me, for the NVidia GTX-590 to be released and then decide?
@WSGF also dose the viewing area get smaller as it turns back to a almost 16x9 screen as it look like it dose and if thats the case wouldnt it be better to have 3x1 landscape so you can see more...?
It looks great, The besel correction makes it look much better. I know people say its anoying but I used to do xp horizontal desktop with 2 crt monitors and what I had was anoying but the resolution looked cool. I'm planing on trying nvidia surround with 3 screens. I can't afford as many monitors as this but maybe in the future I might mange. Shame they dont build monitors that can remove the edges and clip together.
Impressive. However to be visually correct the screens should be setup flat not curved. The demo's you showed all give a single wide field-of-view. The screens left and right are just extensions of that single view. And we need to harass game developers to write for curved setups!
reading through all the comments here people have no idea how their eyes work. when you are playing a game, you can see no bezels at all. this is because your focus point is so small, and is centered on either the curser or crosshair, with the rest of the screens just being peripherals. this is a totally different story when watching someone else game or watching on youtube. your not in control and you are free to look everywhere. i love my 5x1p setup for gaming.
Doing it in portrait or landscape is no big deal. Show a video with mix and matched displays. That will still run a game. Then you got some bragging rights.
@Howie47 Actually doing five screen with any respectable FPS is bragging rights. Only the Eyefinity6 card allowed you to drive all the panels off one card (eliminating the need for multiple cards to sync across the PCIe bus). And, with full Eyefinity support you can now use CrossFire for dual-GPU, and use it for DX10 and DX11.
SoftTH has allowed for five screen, and mixed mode PLP for a while. However, it is DX9 only, and doesn't allow for CFX or SLI support.
@WSGF Actually I could care less about "bragging rights". I'm just interested in something practical, useful and doesn't cost a fortune. How much did those five matching monitors and special hookups cost? I'd like to use some of the monitors I already have. I've bought my share through the years. These companies can only help us spend more money. For stuff that should have worked years ago.
@Howie47 Agreed about the bragging rights. I'm just trying to help the technology advance. Monitors are Dell U2211H, and run $219. They are IPS panels. Very good price/performance ratio IMHO. I remember when a single 24" LCD cost a grand. The video cards are ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity6. They run about $400 each. Depending on what you play, you might not need two. Benchmarks soon. An E6 card is in the works for the 6900 series and will be even better value. No special hookups needed.
@WSGF i think the 6870 can run 6 screen too now ;)
all i need now is a decent stand and some vesa compatble monitors, i hate how they only a handfull of company who bother to put them on the back now days
I have played with Eyefinity before, and the bezel lines are quite annoying, it's less evident in landscape mode, but like this in portrait mode its very distracting. It definitely breaks the realism of games, you are unable to fully immerse yourself in the environment. This is why I do my gaming on a large Dell 30inch.
@FuRyZee IMHO that's one of the beauties of PC gaming - You get to pick your poison and play how you like. Bezels will get smaller, and ultra wide monitors will also play a role (21:9 TV's are already becoming available). Our work at the WSGF will help ensure games run properly in those environments as well.
@WSGF Isn't the Phillips Cinema the only 21:9 HDTV currently available? And doesn't it cost $7400? That's far more niche than even XHD 30" monitors. Do you know of anyone gaming on those TVs? I doubt 21:9 monitors will become available; I see them being restricted to large television screens. Also, the bezels in this setup look thinner:
watch?v=GNkDX2pcg0U&feature=related
Of course, projectors are the only way to achieve seamless total immersion.
@WSGF really 21:9... that'd be something to see... and yeah they will get smaller in time... OLED's i think will have minimal to no bezel if were lucky... and failing that, if you have the money, build a custom wall in your gaming sanctum and use 5 projectors... again only if you have the money lol
@FuRyZee You are probably the first guy I read about that really tried an Eyefinity setup and said, that the bezels are annoying. Nearly all people are forgetting about them within the first few minutes of the game
@MouthofSaurons I don't find it terribly annoying, though the extra bezels in portrait mode are a bit more distracting that landscape. Most users find they "disappear" after a while. I am going to look at stripping the plastic casing off to reduce the bezel width.
Ati rocks, I have the same setup, yesterday I got some problems to setup 5x1, you need to remove the old ati drivers from the control panel, then restart and install the new one
