This theme is not as good as Australia's ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) theme.

In my opinion ABC Australia's theme is better, i think it is a bit unusual which is why i like it. Over all i don't really care what theme the news shows uses, along as we get the news i'm fine. :)

I will NEVER understand why the other ABC O&Os choose the "Eyewitness News" theme over this one. Chicago's ABC 7 tops them all!

At least they have a choice to choose their own theme unlike FOX O&Os.

Not all ABC O&Os chose to use the "EWN" theme, WPVI been using the same theme since '71 with brief stoppage in '97, KFSN in Fresno been using "News One" since '94 and WABC still uses the old version of the "EWN" theme since '99.

That's true. I don't like how Fox tries to make all their O&Os the same without as much localism. I don't know what version of the Eyewitness News theme that KGO in San Francisco uses but its different from WABC and KABC and I can't stand it at all.

@RGSJenkins WPVI has always used Move Closer To Your World since the 70s. The "stoppage" you talk about happened in 1996 when they used a version of the theme done by the London Philharmonic. That theme lasted five days. You do not have your information correct. I demand you correct yourself and admit you are wrong.

I love 'em all. I grew up in SoCal, and heard the Eyewitness news theme all the time. This one's great too! I The EWN theme has this sense of urgency too it though, that just gets to you(w/an old "news ticker" sound-dit,dit,dit,dit,-and then into the theme). A lot of it depends on where you live though. You will have nostalgia for it (in much the same way that we all loved the old "Price is right" stage-and booed when they tried to change it 10 years back).

KGO did used to use this theme in 1998-2000 and we used to hear this ending at the 6pm Friday newscast when Joe Ahern of WLS and WBBM was directing the news at KGO in 1999. I remember in 1999 the KGO News ending always went to Mt. Sutro to show Downtown SF or the Bay Bridge or the Oakland Hills.

along with tower v1 played on WMAQ-TV, I definately say that twose two themes are the best themes on broadcast tv in us.

also love the night view of chicago downtown with navy pier and hancock tower - brings back some good memories from Chicago :)

this is the best news theme ever. period.

i've been to Chicago once, around the time this was broadcast. oh well. nice to see i was beamed with this incredible newscast on this incredible station. we used to have an ABC O&O here in detroit, WXYZ-TV, before they got split by the FCC. if WXYZ-TV hadn't existed, there would be no ABC, no WLS, no news series 2000 plus, not even news series 2000, as WXYZ saved ABC from going the way of Dumont in the fifties.

I don't like watching news in the Central Time Zone. A 5PM that ends at 5:30, there's a 4 on a station, but only a 4:30 in another, they stop for national news at 5:30, some return at 6, others skip to the tabloids, you can have either a news at 11am or noon, they extend their 6 o'clock to 7, some stations do a seven o'clock news, ten there are the 9 and 10 o'clocks.

what. you comment is stupid. IN chicago abc 7 does 11am, 4-5:30pm, 6pm and 10pm. All station except WGN have a 10pm newscast. WFLD and WGN do a 9pm. WBBM has no 4pm but has a 5, 6, and 10pm and WMAQ starts at 4:30pm.

I mean, in general, all stations before the Eastern Time Zone, I mean, it's quite weird. In Houston (i.e.), KPRC and KTRK have their middays at 11am. KHOU has a 12pm news. KTRK starts at 4pm. KPRC and KHOU have only a 5pm. How am I supposed to remember what time is the news on any which channel in some other market out in the heartland?

Magnificent. WLS has some of the best newscast closes of all time. The skyline shot and the music fits so well together. An example that you can really see/hear why WLS has been using this music for the past 15+ years.

I have a 5PM opening that goes along with this newcast, but it was the newer one that was updated in 2005.
