If you want to see the sunrise do not go to the Poon Hill. Stay down in front of SuperView Lodge in Ghorepani after all the 300 People went up to Poon Hill :) and enjoy breakfast without so many people.... You do not see the Machhapuchhre from there but the Machha you will see further on from Tadapani (not Tatopani) very well. But you can enjoy a great and calm breakfast (Take the corner room of the lodge and wake up with superview) !!
Mountains heights are measured from above sea level. The mountains in the Himalayas usually start at 10,000+ feet...they are high, but they are not "20x higher" based on vertical relief.

I was just searching for anapurna1 footage,
but in my trip to nepal i was excactly at this viewpoint, didnt even realise where i was l0okin at in retrospect. It was a long time ago!
