Yes the total magnetic flux through a closed surface is 0, but here it isn't a closed surface. Magnetic flux = B.dA for any surface, but because in a closed surface there is always a one-to-one correspondence between dAs where the field is going in and dAs where its coming out (dAs are vectors, so by saying this i'm saying that they're in the same direction), the individual B.dAs in a closed surface cancel each other out so the total magnetic flux = 0
This area is NOT a closed surface. An example of a closed surface would be a sphere, or a cube, or a cylinder. But this area does not have any volume.
