@masanf Yep. I was on his campaign and they were gaining some steam, cutting a 20-point lead down to eight points. Ocne that line came out, we all KNEW it was over. It was so sad.
Next to "You're no Jack Kennedy," this is probably the best presidential debate line ever. Even Mondale's people knew how great it was.
@BettorOffSingle I was watching this with my first wife when we were just dating. She was so convinced Mondale was going to pull it off, but after this line, I took one look at her and said, "SLAM DUNK! GAME OVER!" And it was!
@masanf Mondale and everyone on his campaign knew. The age issue was real, thanks to the first debate. People had genuine doubts about Reagan, who may have displayed his first sign of Alzheimer's here. Reagan made sure never to be caught "napping" like that again, and this was just the icing on the cake. At the time, the Soviet and Chinese leaders were also elderly.
This was the turning point in the election. That shit faced grin Mondale has on him was saying "oh fuck, I'm so toast"... and he was, only winning Minnesota.
Even Mondale had to laugh at that one! @Rowlett - the news media would have crucified McCain. We see where inexperience gets us. Two more years! I hope we survive.
Can you imagine if McCain had said that to "The Annointed Dork"? I can just imagine the glare McCain would have gotten from the unqualified "Community Organizer".
haha, Reagan, now he was beautiful.
