Jim Morrison and The Doors, thank you gentlemen for helping us Vietnam Vets to get through our tour there. Despite rocket and mortar attacks, your music gave us reason to feel good and hopeful for our return home to "The World". Beatles, Country Joe, The Doors all meant sanity and the connection to life.
@maxangleofdangle I've know many a Vietnam Vet to say exactly that! Thank you for your service to our Country Sir! You are one of many who never received a proper HomeComing after all you did for us.God bless you! ♥ msstevie ♥
Well to us teenagers of that time he was beautiful. We would listen to his music endlessly and we all had crushes on him. One of my friends asked for his autograph she didn't have anything for him to sign so he signed her hand which she didn't wash for a long time (smile). I just remember that his voice was different from the others when he first came out, he still performed even when the sound system went out and he took off his shirt and sang in his hip hugger leather pants
I just saw Ray one month ago. Riders on the Storm are great. i hope they tour next year!!! if you can go to Emerald theatre, mtclemens MI, you can see pictures and slide show!!
He was a psycho though! He was totally out of control, and if I were a woman, no matter how good looking he was or talented, I would have stood clear. Stick to Tim Buckley....Happy Sad albumn..
God is dead; Dionysos for the living when he was alive. no flowers on his grave - time has made the rites insane respectable; but the sun sets on every poet spreadeagled across the night, some even died for their art, a genius too much to bear; beautiful kids dead on junk; I cry for them loosely
"The Doors were unusual among rock groups because they did not use a bass guitar when playing live. Instead, Manzarek played the bass lines with his left hand on the newly invented Fender Rhodes bass keyboard . . ."
Ray Manzarek - greatest rock keyboards ever, IMHO.
yeah i know that, i was just trying to say that the group member that played the "bass" was him, sorry that my english isn´t good enough, i KNOW the instruments they played:
ray manzarek- keyboards/bass keyboard
robby krieger- guitar
john densmore-drums
jim morrison vocals, and, some times the harmonica...
hey, and not hiven ray manzarek was, and is the best rock keyboard player, but the doors were, are and will forever be the best band in the entire world!!!!
they had a real bass player for the studio recordings. he never went on tour with them, ray just played the rhodes keyboard. But yea, you can definitely hear the seperate bass in this song
The Doors were unusual among rock groups because they did not use a bass guitar when playing live. Instead, Manzarek played the bass lines with his left hand on the newly invented Fender Rhodes bass keyboard, an offshoot of the well-known Fender Rhodes electric piano, playing other keyboards with his right hand. On their studio albums, The Doors did use bass players such as Jerry Scheff, Doug Lubahn, Harvey Brooks, Kerry Magness, Lonnie Mack, Larry Knechtel, Leroy Vinnegar, and Ray Neapolitan.
It was this song, redone by the LA band X in 1980, that reintroduced me to the Doors. Small wonder, the album this song is off of, Los Angeles, and their next two, Wild Gift, and Under the Big Black Sun were produced by Ray Manzarek, the Doors Keyboardist.
I sure woulda loved to have a bite at that restaurant. Was it called Olivia's? I love this song. I love anything and everything regarding Jim Morrison and the Doors. They were, and still are, the absolute best ever. Thanks for the great video!

Probably never. The man that contributed the most to make them who they are (Jim Morrison) is dead.

Yeah, bad times, awesome music.
It's too bad Jim Morrison was such a nasty guy, or I might like the quote at the end better.

the 60's was such a sick time.... music was 100 times better back then than now-a-days (with the exception of dave matthews band)

Well, sort of - from "The Doors" on Wikipedia:
"The Doors were unusual among rock groups because they did not use a bass guitar when playing live. Instead, Manzarek played the bass lines with his left hand on the newly invented Fender Rhodes bass keyboard . . ."
Ray Manzarek - greatest rock keyboards ever, IMHO.
