It doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing, the minute the Letter or the reprise shuffles onto my mp3 player I can't help but start crying. It happened on the tube the other day so I just had to in the corner like an emotionally unstable crazy person trying to sniffle quietly and mop up my face. I haven't even seen the musical yet, if I saw it in the West End they'd probably have to drag me out because my sobs would drown out the performance. :/
i have to sing this with my 'little brother' for a show about cancer and we rehearsed it yesterday. we both started balling our eyes out. dont know how im gonna do it on stage!
The minute this song came on I just started gushing tears down my face, it's beauty, innocence, and just about everything was amazing. Then at the end when Billy kisses Michael on the cheek was the most adorable, sweet, and cutest thing ever and it truly showed how he loved him for what he helped him through and I can relate to this so amazingly and it just brings me to tears the whole play. For sure, one of the most amazing things I have witnessed and heard.
this song made me cry more than the first one, especially because hes singin it back to his mother:/ and at then end when michaels says yeah se ya billy and you can hear his voice breaking with sadness,i didnt have any mascara left on after this song, its sucha powerfull song.<3
I think at the beginning he should say proud to have mourned you instead of known, it would have so much power. Anyway, I LOVE this part and I was not even able to see it properly because of the tears in my eyes.
this scene always makes me cry :( its a bittersweet ending. billy gets to go to a great ballet school in london, but leaves everything behind. its very sad... i always cry like a baby in this scene and i've seen the show 4 times. especially when billy goes up to michael and kisses him on the cheek as a way of thanking him, its very emotional.
we did this at my drama club and Billy actually forgot to bring the letter on stage with him...and in the london he forgot the jar of money AND his music tape!!
Carole Shelley, the actress who played Grandma in the original NYC cast once described "Billy Elliot" as "unutterably emotional" and after seeing it, I couldn't agree more. This song especially captures that idea so perfectly. I love it!
Wow, just wow. I saw this the other day and I've been thinking about it ever since. This song really gets to me.
I'm so happy they included the ending bit with Michael and Billy at the end. Besides being an absolutely adorable scene, I can totally relate to them. ;~~;
I always cry so hard when billy says "see you soon" but his mom replies" no i dont think so, do you" and he says "no not really". I love this song so much!
its so powerful because of the expression of authenticity and the affirmation of his true self, something we too often are denied or have to struggle to get...not to mention suppressing one's true affections and emotions for cultural reasons, social reasons, family ties, out of fear of being excluded or abandoned, as many families and communities have done. so, no wonder Billy Elliot touches such a vulnerable place in all of us. To see him persevere, to see him triumph over the odds, its great.
Just out of curiousity, which Billy did you get to see in NY? I won't get to see any of them (except if a DVD is made) but I love all I've seen via YouTube, especially Kiril and Trent.
@kmbmiddlechild I saw Tommy Batchelor as Billy (back when he was still performing in NYC) and I saw David Bologna as Michael. I would have liked to have seen Kiril Kulish as Billy, but he must have been Tommy's back-up that day because he was at the theater and I still got to meet him, even though he didn't perform.
I cried even harder on this song than I did in the first one! Especially when at the end Billy kisses Michael on the cheek and is like "See ya, Michael"
...I cried so hard that even after Michael said "See ya Billy" and they lowered the curtain I was still crying. Oh, I was such a wreck but wasn't too embarrased because I was surrounded by guys and every single one of them were crying too!
@JTAfanboy1503 Tommy Batchelor. David Bologna was Michael. I would have liked to have seen Kiril Kulish as Billy, but he must have been Tommy's back-up that day because he was at the theater and I still got to meet him, even though he didn't perform.
@Kryptonsuperfan wow! ur so lucky. i wanted to see Kiril perform but i guess that will never happen, since hes not Billy anymore =/ but i would still love to see the show.
@JTAfanboy1503 It is a real bummer that Kiril is all grown up now, but if you ever get a chance to see it GO! It's totally worth every second and every penny spent. It's by far one of the most amazing show that I've ever seen!
@Kryptonsuperfan luckkkkkkyyyyyyyy, i'm trying to prode my mum to take me to see it in toronto. this is the one play that i have to see, i missed wicked but this one i am not and i refuse to miss it, if i have to buy a ticket at the boxoffice and see it on my own then i will.
@jhjhis2cool It's a good thing that the curtain call was happy and entertaining or I would have still been crying as I left the theater. I was pretty much an emotional wreck after that show.
this is really nice. too bad it's very unlikely that i'll ever see it live. it only just started in America and i live about as far away from broadway as you can get :(
i saw it at the victoria palace on the 13/11/08 and we did a workshop with person who played swing and learnt the finale dance it was fantastic fox played billy it made me cry and loads of others
That last bit with Michael always puts me over the edge, especially with the music...and his voice cracks...ohhhhhhhh! The Angry Dance makes me cry too.
