its hard to explain unless you actually go see it...pippin is...VERY LOOSELY...based off of the story of King Charlemene's son...VERY LOOSELY...infact...I think they make most of it up.
its really more of an allegory for young life, and.finding meaning and purpose to live.
it deals with alot of heavy and dark themes that aren't very suitable for children...but it is my favorite play of all time!! i really recommend it, wicked might be popular, but this is schwartz's masterpiece in my opinion.
@dericjeter2 It's basically about Prince Pippin's quest to find personal significance and where he belongs, and he's searching for that the entire show.
this production originated in east haddam, ct at the goodspeed before it went on tour. unfortunately, i wasn't working there yet at the time of this show, so i only saw it twice. but andre ward who plays the lead player is absolutely amazing
this video doesn't give the show justice! i saw this when they came to hershey, pa and i thought that it would suck so bad, but my mom's boss wanted to see it so we went...and it was WAY better than i expected! the lead player was spectacular!
Actually, our local community theater did a production of Pippin with little to no high-tech stuff, and I can still call it one of the best musicals I've ever seen. It probably helped that the acting was absolutely fantabulous, but still, I think it all depends on how a director's vision comes to life.
I don't think romans11 was talking about the show "Pippin" I think he's talking about this particular production. Because the show itself is wonderful. I agree that this particular cast is not nearly as strong as the original Broadway cast.
The spectacle is amazing, but definitely is the strong point.
thats where i saw this!!! i thought the same thing, im amazed to see the same set and everything...its got to be one of my favorite shows- but only the way it was done here
Nice preview.

I wanna do this show again... only with the new orchestrations... I played Pippin just out of college, and it was a blast.

Can you say, "Cirque du Soleil?"

It looks pretty spectacular, but I have to wonder what the show would be like without all the high tech spectical. Would it hold water?
I think I'm just WAY too attatched to the original production of this, and I don't think anything else will ever be good enough. :)

I thought the high-tech spectacle was the point of the thing. "Magic shows and miracles, mirages to touch"...

I really don;t like these new orchestrations. The a Capella they go into 10 seconds in is so "Current Broadway" :|
