So if you can submerge a pc in mineral oil, does that mean that mineral oil can also be used as a liquid solution, for a water cooled pc (basically instead of the solution that you have to pour into a water cooling system, can you use mineral oil instead)?
Oil replaces air not the copper....... And so what if its messy, if a hot chick covered in oil wanted to get it on you wouldnt cause shes messy? You got to cowboy up and dive into that shit..... not say eewww. We should revoke your man card
I didn't find this video helpful at all. I guess it would be helpful for someone who wanted to know what you guys don't like about oil, but for someone who actually wants to know "How to Build an Oil-Cooled Aquarium PC" (note: that's the title of this video) this video is useless. 4 minutes of complaining, 3 minutes of prep , fast motion during actual assembly, 20 seconds of footage after assembly with no close up of the finished PC, no temp comparison either. but then we get more complaining.
don't be so freindly with the flourinert as it can be harmful to breathe in and it's best not to let it contact your skin. Also be careful, it's common for a complete immersion system like this to fail because this shit can seep into capacitors and other components after a while and kill em. Evaporation is also a problem
geeze guys, when you don't wanna do something, you really go out of your way to show it. 90% of the video was trashing the concept and 10 percent of it was fast motion assembly with no explanations. some temp readings at the end might have been helpful
@bernie23232323232323 Well its a good thing most people willing to do so are smart enough to have passed 9th grade science class and know that mineral oil is not a liquid. Although yes it would be pretty stupid to actually use your primary computer to do this.
@xxslayer66LMAO really mineral oil or LIQUID PETROLEUM is not a liquid what would you call it then a solid or a gas ? are you sure you passed the ninth grade DUMBASS!
I'm pretty sure these guys are a bit misleading and they have to be doing it on purpose; They have to be smarter than that. The high heat transfer rate of copper is a given and note... they are still on the processors. But, instead of using air you would be using oil to cool off the copper. So what if it's messy? Are you the stereotypical girl or what? lol P.S. The oil is only flowing thru the heat sink by natural flow. Where as fans move the air. Gotta move the oil somehow. Bubbler?
@jgspeer13 It is still better to just get water-cooling equipment, attach the water block to the CPU, GPU, etc. and cool the water/coolant with a radiator. Oil is hard to move around efficiently, especially in a tank. You really need tubes to conduct hot liquid away from the computer and return cool liquid back properly.
And oil has about 1/3 the thermal conductivity of water. Not that water can be used for direct contact but this tells you why water is used in water-cooling, hence the name.
There's an easy way to to get fish in there. 2 aquariums. One inside the other :3 The outside aquarium is filled with water and fish. The inside one is completely 100% sealed and filled with mineral oil and your PC.
HAHAHA He's a funny looking guy that doesn't know anything about physics!!!!!!
Oil cooling is far superior and efficient because you simply have 100% contact with all the components of the pc because it is fully submerged!!! so it sucks every bit of heat from everywhere!!!! He doesn't like oil cooling because it is do it your self , and he is payed to promote water cooling...
Yeah guy, put sum fishies in ther 'cause it got like minerels and shit in it ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS ? Fish can't breathe in there ! Not sure they'll even swim because of the viscosity.
I'm assuming that like the hard drive, a disc drive could just be mounted on top, but could you like, put some LEDs or somethin in there for show? Also, where can I get this stuff?! Also, how much room is there? Like if I want to add another video card or RAM or something. I have a Gateway Fx6000 desktop, all stock, if that helps.
@Napstergucio124 Not really. Going off of what this guy is saying, it's better than air, but probably not better than a true liquid cooling setup. Not only that, but you have to deal with the mess and it's expensive compared to a liquid setup where you just have to refill it every now and then.
@osmodivs . . . yeah. whats up with that? This is only my second time watching a SYSTM video, and in both of them they didn't actually follow up with their results. What was the point in watching?

Well its good for Quiet Compuiters but i think you can't overclock your PC with a oil cooling, i mean, the oil doesnt get cooled that well to keep the compuiter safe if you overclock it, UNLESS you put a pump with 1 tube which goes trough a radiator and gets back in the aquarium

Cleaning mineral oil form a motherboard is EXTREMELY EASY!!! a 24oz can of Gunscrubber at any local gun dealer will strip the mineral oil off the motherboard in seconds and dry instantly. you will NEVER know it was in mineral oil. ALSO electric motor cleaner spray form Tower hobbies will do it as well. I have done it a few times actually, and feel free to check out my videos of my systems. from mineral oil systems to the only Air conditioned + Liquid cooled system on youtube, its on my channel
WTH...why didnt they show how much it "cooled" it? I watch 5 min of BS,4 min of assembly montage, 1 min of "there you have it". with no end temp!!!!! waste of time
Yeah, Patrick is from the old days when Tech TV didn't suck balls and was all about content and not trendy hipsters. He was part of the Screen Savers program and introduced tech news in almost the same manner he does here. Still hasn't lost it.
No, you couldn't distilled water has less mineral content than regular water but it's still conductive, only pure H2O is nonconductive and you can't produce more than a few micrograms of it in a controlled laboratory atmosphere. Besides, every substance has a so called electric permitivity index (e), which depends on frequency; at 3GHz air (e=1) behaves different than water (e= little more tahn 1) and oil (e>>>1) so you'll end up with a blue screen of death.
The real qustion here is what did u do with the CPU. i made one and it fried my computer with vege oil. So did u have to make any modafaicathions to make this work?
outside of increasing the4 noise with the addition of mamoth heat sinks and higher CFM fans. Its still cheeper then in the end as long as the parts can be on order for 10 years.

If you change the oil every so often you should be able to keep it from becoming conductive.

WTH...why didnt they show how much it "cooled" it? I watch 5 min of BS,4 min of assembly montage, 1 min of "there you have it". with no end temp!!!!! waste of time

Was Patrick on Call for help, formerly on Tech TV before it sucked?Meaning G4 is trash

yeah he was

Yeah, Patrick is from the old days when Tech TV didn't suck balls and was all about content and not trendy hipsters. He was part of the Screen Savers program and introduced tech news in almost the same manner he does here. Still hasn't lost it.

could you use distilled water? i think i heard that its salt that makes the water conductive.
coolfool3000 2 years ago
you cold but after a short time(minutes, days, weeks, ?) the water gets conductive i heard
tazztone 2 years ago
No, you couldn't distilled water has less mineral content than regular water but it's still conductive, only pure H2O is nonconductive and you can't produce more than a few micrograms of it in a controlled laboratory atmosphere. Besides, every substance has a so called electric permitivity index (e), which depends on frequency; at 3GHz air (e=1) behaves different than water (e= little more tahn 1) and oil (e>>>1) so you'll end up with a blue screen of death.

has to be non conductive liquid. viscosity is negligible

stick your hand in it and you die
gg4u1234 2 years ago
yes, that's true, but it would need to be covered. If anything were to get in the water, it would fry the computer.

all lyquids get conductive over time becouse of erosion of the metal, just use a normal watercooling kit :)
