Honestly euthanasia sucks but if people spayed& neutered their animals this wouldn't be as bad as it is. I'm not saying I agree with euthanasia because I don't. I'm just saying it's not the shelters fault they don't have room for animals people dump on their doorsteps or on the streets.

I am not necessarily an animal activist but I think that millions of animals being put down (in this case, 'murdered') every single day is ridiculous. Perfectly healthy animals are being killed and then dumped in trash cans. Puppies even! Some dogs only have 24 hours to find a home! When shelters are full and there is no room for new animals, they must kill over 100 just to make room for another 100. Puppies and dogs are cute, yes but so many animals are waiting for THEIR home.

I think that anyone owning a dog that is not fixed and brings a little of puppies or kittens should have to volunteer in the shelter for a week and assist in the puting down of animals so that they see what they are contributing to.

Mandatory spay/neuter programs and laws are not the answer to this problem. As mentioned in this video clip, we need a re-education program for the entire society. Animals are not something to be thrown away when you get tired of it. People need to learn about responsible breeding, including the professional breeders. People need to care. Mandatory spay/neuter programs will not make people care. Leash laws will not make people care. Teach your children how to love an animal.

And what the narrator says is true. A cats veins are smaller and sometimes hard to inject and if the solution DOESN'T get placed in the vein, the death will be slow. There is no such thing as a NO KILL animal shelter. I currently work at an animal shelter and I can tell you first hand that there is no such thing. Humane society euthanizes, PETA euthanizes, ASPCA does too. The diffrence between the ASPCA, PETA, and Humane Society is they take the cute and fluffy ones, leaving the older or "unwanted breeds" with us. The only way to deter this from happening is just to stop breeding. Spay and neuter your animals.

This is heartbreaking. I've volunteered in a shelter and I know the numbers, but to see these animals die is terrible. I feel sorry for those people who have to do it and thank them for having the kindness to give these dogs a pat and a kind word on their way.
Every schoolchild in the country (world) should have to watch this, and ever more graphic versions, every year of their schooling. We have ot get to the kids, THEY can get to the parents. Like said in the video, they're the ones having to do the ugly deed because of people not wanting to take care of their pet. That and vets charging way too much to help a pet equal to that of trying to get medical help for a human. I believe owners who are going to carelessly give their pets away for euthanisa, should be forced by law to watch the procedure and explained that this is what happens when you take pets in knowing you're not going to do jack shit for them.

I used to volunteer at an animal shelter and the days that they would euthanize was hard. The worker that was charged with this duty would be crying at times since this is such a pointless waste of life. I agree that we all bare responsibility for this situation which is preventable.

Do any of you realize how old this video is? Times have changed. There is absolutely no need to euthanize animals. These innocent animals died for no reason. Animal shelters and the people who manage them are stuck in the mindset that killing is the only way. They've blamed the public for who knows how long. There are many other options besides euthanasia, shelters just refuse to try harder because they believe that there is no other way. This video is very outdated, but it is still disgusting.
Although this video is old. It still VERY current. I foster for a local animal control and although we now have the internet to help put the word out to rescues, fosters and getting more homes, there are still far too many animals in the shelter. The shelter puts downs animals EVERY day. Why? Because in one weekend that just past they had received 300 animals. Since there are not enough cages and not enough homes so what other choice is there? Sad but this still takes place.

Used to work at an animal shelter where I was a E-tech. It was not fun playing with dogs and the next day deciding that they need to go because of space. That shit fucking sucked. It was sad that I only did what I did only because I needed some extra cash.

If we build bigger shelters it will just fill up and the dogs will sit for day, weeks, months and thats no way to live there life. Makes me cry; I watch these even though it breaks my heart, gives me nightmares; I owe it to those that lost their lives. I have many animals and don't let them breed. I spay and neuter my animals. I've taken in pregnant cats; let them have their babies and then get all of them fixed. I find homes for what i can but only after they're spayed/neutered. I love the animals and can't stand to think of any dying because they are homeless; it's not fair and someone somewhere is responsible.

Euthanasia, although horrible, is the most "humane" way to put these dogs down. Mandatory spay/neuter programs and laws are not the answer to this problem. As mentioned in this video clip, we need a re-education program for the entire society. Animals are not something to be thrown away when you get tired of it. People need to learn about responsible breeding, including the professional breeders. People need to care. Mandatory spay/neuter programs will not make people care. Leash laws will not make people care. Teach your children how to love an animal.

And what the narrator says is true. A cats veins are smaller and sometimes hard to inject and if the solution DOESN'T get placed in the vein, the death will be slow. There is no such thing as a NO KILL animal shelter. I currently work at an animal shelter and I can tell you first hand that there is no such thing. Humane society euthanizes, PETA euthanizes, ASPCA does too. The diffrence between the ASPCA, PETA, and Humane Society is they take the cute and fluffy ones, leaving the older or "unwanted breeds" with us. The only way to deter this from happening is just to stop breeding. Spay and neuter your animals.

That and vets charging way too much to help a pet equal to that of trying to get medical help for a human. I used to volunteer at an animal shelter and the days that they would euthanize was hard. The worker that was charged with this duty would be crying at times since this is such a pointless waste of life. I agree that we all bare responsibility for this situation which is preventable.

While this video is old, its extremely powerful and relivant and this still does happen today in parts of the country. Its about the sadest thing I have ever seen and makes me sick to my stomach. But the more awareness is promoted and education is done about why you get a pet and what happens when you shirk your responsbility then the more people will spay, neuter and buy pets responsably. Do any of you realize how old this video is? Times have changed. There is absolutely no need to euthanize animals. These innocent animals died for no reason. Animal shelters and the people who manage them are stuck in the mindset that killing is the only way. They've blamed the public for who knows how long. There are many other options besides euthanasia, shelters just refuse to try harder because they believe that there is no other way. This video is very outdated, but it is still disgusting.

Although this video is old. It still VERY current. I foster for a local animal control and although we now have the internet to help put the word out to rescues, fosters and getting more homes, there are still far too many animals in the shelter. The shelter puts downs animals EVERY day. Why? Because in one weekend that just past they had received 300 animals. Since there are not enough cages and not enough homes so what other choice is there? Sad but this still takes place.

I can't believe the language in some of these comments! This is a serious issue. I would hope this could be an incentive to adopt and not buy, volunteer at your local "kill" shelter where the need is. Really no room for some of the language in these comments!!

I bet you, you are not. Do you take street animals in your house? I don't think so. This video shows how important it is to get animals neutered. If not they will or die on the street or put down in a shelter.

Thanks for this video. This is the real world - Its amazing how many blame the messengers, or those at the end of the line treating the problem. I have been a volunteer at shelters for the last 30 years and never in a "No Kill" as they are above the fray - don't need to kill because most won't except all in need . In Chile, where I live its illegal or very difficult to euthenize healthy dogs - so people dump the puppies out in the countryside/streets our animal shelter La Protectora Punta Aren

I've been my whole life christian and I'm really starting to doubt is there really a god. It seems like there's only satan. Only reason I'm still believing in god is because I wanna believe that these poor, innocent, cute and fluffy furballs go to a better place. What the government should be doing is not only give heavy fines to the negligent people, but they must give that money to the volunteers, so they can buy food and medicine for the healing of the animals.

Used to work at an animal shelter where I was a E-tech. It was not fun playing with dogs and the next day deciding that they need to go because of space. That shit fucking sucked. It was sad that I only did what I did only because I needed some extra cash.
