  • where can i get one of theese in the uk?

  • where do you buy them?

  • very good vid. grats.

  • Thank you. :P

  • is attached* sorry

  • what i dont get is how the blade us attached to each side of the spring?

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaactually depending on the way its deployed, you dont need to have a handle exponentially larger than the blade. using the switch method, yes you do. but using a gear rotating method that activates the DA OTF mech, which would lie either above the otf mech, or on the same level of the blade, , you could make the blade actually the same length of the handle or at least within a half hour. hope this helps-for example i am using this method to make a hidden blade that works both ways.

  • I have owned 3 Microtech knives and they all broke! A COMBAT TROODON, SCARAB and a ULTRATECH BAYONET. I love these knives but i'm reluctant to buy any more. All three had spring failure after only 3 days of normal use of simply flicking the switch in and out. I was very disappointed to say the least. I have a MAKORA that hasn't broke yet but i'm babying it. I don't want to have to send it back like the others.

  • When you slide the button, the lock will be released on one side and lock on the other, and vice versa, so it works both ways.

Now I wanna figure out the actual parts, how to hook the blade to the spring, how to control the locks with a sliding button, stuff like that.

  • I was searching for double action mechanism to make an assassins creed hidden blade (with functionality in mind).

The only thing I didn't figured out is how is the blade hooked up to the spring.

    I'll explain what I understood.

The blade is hooked up to the spring, the button tightens the spring, and when slide the button fully, after it tightens the spring it will release the lock, witch will release the spring causing the blade either to go up or down, the locks will hold it in place.

  • my brother died like this

  • I want those gloves...

  • From what I understand about OTF knives the bigger you make the blade the handle must become a lot bigger. so say you have a 3 inch blade, you need say a 5 inch handle to store it. Though I don't exactly see why? And if there is no way around this how big would one have to be if it had an 8 inch blade?

  • @Mike0brien You don't see why? Dude where is that 8 inch blade going to hide ? :D You need at least a 9 inch handle, but the bigger the blade the longer the support / lockup area that stays in the handle when the blade is deployed. You don't want a 4 inch blade holding on a .250" piece of aluminium do You?

  • How do the latches work that lock the blade? are they spring loaded to?

  • @Mike0brien Yes they are, when you force the button forward, the slide which is connected to the button, will force the spring forward, while it's putting force on the spring, it'll at a later point unlock the springloaded locks.

The blade jets forwards, and gets locked into place by a barb-like lock, which is forced into the blade, but because of forward movement, the blade can move beyond them, but not back unless the slide is moved back.

  • i still dont undersand can someone explain it better or point me to a website or something?

  • @syrianization I don't think it will get any better than this. Not everyone will understand - You have to have a bit of a technical mind for this. It's really not that complicated. Think of it as a Slingshot :) where the blade is the projectile only it's stopped and blocked in 2 positions. You pull the 'slingshot' (spring) and it automatically lets go at a certain point.

  • @cubixthe thanks im starting to understand, Im wanting to build a similar mechanism to this.

  • @syrianization watch?v=2pvbkfFdlLw

  • Love the vid

  • Hey, does anyone know how the warrenty works on the Microtech knifes? I Bought a used Makora I but the sell did not have the box or warranty papers. I ask because I think it needs to be re-oiled or clean. When I try to retracked the blade it is much harder than to shoot it out.

  • Does any what why my Makora I is so hard to shoot out. When I try to pust the slider it very hard to push. Like after shooting it a couple of times my thumb is red and sore. Is this normal or is something wrong with the knife?

  • @LongLiveTheHUMMER It does take some practice to open them right. Takes some getting used to... When You click it for an hour I'm sure You won't be able to open it the next day with the same thumb :P

  • how the blade stays locked to the ends of the spring?

  • @MisterKeyboardGuy It only unlocks when that little slant pushes the little latches up enough that the blade unlocks. At 2:14

  • @lifeofanidiot thanks, now I understand the mechanism

  • building hidden blade with this except illegal so i need to make one

  • Glorified box cutter

  • @forestcamper AWESOME glorified box cutter

  • @harlescay So is my dick. But you don't see me posting on Youtube about it.

  • @forestcamper wait so your dicks illegal?

  • @harlescay Only in 49 states

  • @forestcamper ok, go take your dick abroad

    this is AMERICA

  • i have 1 I got 4 $10.00 @ the flea market

  • @TheDragon823 Good for You !

  • @TheDragon823 montgomery ? its just like ?....a mini ...maawwlll

  • @TheDragon823 fake

  • thumb up if you using this to make a assassins creed blade

  • @revansthemaster hahahahaha it makes me laugh my ass off that we are all here for the same reason...

  • Finally, i know how those work!!!! Thank you!

  • great vid helped me understand OTF knives more but they are still very complicated and im still very confuzzled im trying to make an assassins creed wrist blade and i was actually thing about using a D/A OTF mechanism with an extened switch but i dont know how id start off with making the mechanics because there are no good schematics of a D/A otf knife i would like a more detailed look at all the mechanisms and how they look and interact with each other to make the knife shoot in and out

  • may i ask, how stable is the blade nechanism when the blade is out, i mean, it´s possible to hit the blade hard enough so the blade will retract?

  • @PtolemaiosLS No, You can beat it with a hammer and it shouldn't close on You.

  • how much is the knife

  • @gawei starts at about $250 i guess.

  • why were you worried about sweat? the handle it aluminum, the slide is aluminum, the springs and tabs are stainless steel, the blade is also stainless.

great video though, good to see someone finally bit the bullet and took one of these apart.

  • i can never understand exactly how OTF knives work T^T

  • @TheBserk When the slider (with the spring on it) slides foward, the spring streches a bit. At the same time, the slider pushes on the latch that is locking the blade in place. So, now that the blade is free to move, it shoots foward because of the spring. And now the blade is out, and the mechanism is reset. Note that the spring is not connected to the blade or slider. It just pushes the blade using the little metal pieces that you can see here 2:30

    I hope this helped.

  • i wish they had a better hand gaurd i was stabing a oeice of wood with mine and my hand slipped off the grip and i got a very bad cut needed 7 stiches

  • excellent vid. been looking for awhile now on the interals of a DA OTF so i could ATTEMPT to make my own. Yup im that bored and that poor LOL got a couple of springs from a bench light should do the trick.

  • I really hope sweat dosent effect the knife.

I think its made for blood.

  • wat does OTF stand for?

  • @slamongo OTF= Out The Front the knife opens by coming out the front, hope i helped

  • Too bad you can't carry these without being arrested not to mention $500.00? Fuck that.

  • Oh god, you sure have some balls if you opened up a microtech. Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't that void the warranty? If it does, I dont know how you can afford to do that with the high prices those things go for.

  • does the blade have any wobble side to side or up and down. wondering if it doesnt how long before that starts to happen

  • Thanks a lot for this video, I need to assemble a Scarab soon so I'm sure this will be great help.

  • That music is not ''the mark has been made''

sounds nothing like NIN, how dare you.

    cool vid tho.

  • I know, it was NiN but fckn YouTube removed the sound and I had to choose something from their list :(

  • Dude, good vid, but not wearing gloves might be a little bit better for a vid like this. Still, thanks for uploading this!

  • The info on that matter is on the end of the vid. Besides it's easy to cut Yourself (without even noticing) while doing this - been there done that.

  • The extending force is only as strong as the spring tension, and its only "shot" out and not carried so a little resistance will stop it. Seems to be the only mechanism I can find on dual actions though. However Ive seen some that stick in wood with continuous force. Confusing...

  • How does that front locking pin unlock to allow the blade back to the close position. I cant find any ramps on the slider, like the back, that do that

  • I cant still figure out how the double action mechanism works... UGH!

Does the spring both push and pull?

    How does it work?

  • The spring always pulls the blade. When You're opening the knife the blade is hooked to the back of the spring and when You're closing the knife the blade is hooked to the front of the spring !

  • @cubixthe and when the slide is moved forward, it simply unlocke the blade and allows the spring to pull it out, and the same when closing. oh, and how much bladeplay does this particular knife have?

  • Anodized aluminum internals? Is that a UT6?

  • Yes it is.

  • after i saw this video all i had in my mind was "wrist blade wrist blade blah blah...."

  • Yes I know me too! I have been trying to buy a da otf in order to look at the inside mechanism up close.

  • Yeah I guess... Like a Rolex Diver is EXACTLY the same as a SEIKO Diver :)

  • Excellent how-to! Thanks!

  • Hey my OTF switchblae broke and I don't know 2 fix it.

  • do you know where i could find a tri wing bit for the ultratech? i cannot seem to find them anywhere!

  • Can you do a Sharpening Video for us, see how you do it without damaging the tempering.

  • You just can't press the knife hard against the belt and cool it in water after every pass :) How do You think they do it @ Microtech ? :D I will try to do a vid, it's not that I do it all the time - the edge needs to be fairly worn. in other case I just do it freehand on a stone..

  • Sorry Dude I meant as if you break off the very tip of the Blade, being very britle and re-pointing without over heating the Blade could be a risk.

    Thanks m8.

  • No problem, It also can be done - but it takes time, can't do it fast... But it still will be faster than doing it on stones :)

  • @warmonger357 you just use a whetrock. and dont go apeshit. itll take you a little while like 5 min. but youll get it razor sharp with practice, no damage to the tempering, AND you can do it in your own bedroom.

  • But hey! Is there a way of making the blade slide out without a click of a switch? Kind of like sliding the switch.

  • I got the tri bit but what is that handle you got with yours is it torque drive and where can I get my grubby mits on one? :-).

    Thanks.

  • That's a Microtech Tri Wing Bit Set , it comes with 3 bits and the handle.

  • Thanks for the info mate that response was quicker than my Makora :-).

  • Outstanding!! Thanks man :)

  • great video

  • Great Video! Thanks!!!

  • Another great vid! MT should be paying you to make these!

  • Beautiful review!

    Nice camera work too!

  • Very nicely done!

  • good vid! I just realized that i somehow got a hold of some of your pics, i have the tanto one at the end as my wallpaper, awsome!

  • awesome explenation bro!!
