Jan spent a year as keyboardist/conductor with Sarah Vaughan. In 1971, he became a member of the original Mahavishnu Orchestra, (then) the most successful group ever to record and tour in the jazz-rock fusion genre, selling over 2 million records worldwide, and performing 530 shows before their December 31, 1973 farewell concert.
Jeff always plays with real great musicians & won a grammy with Jan.
Give Clapton a break, his goal in life isn't to buff your ass. The man has had some pretty tough times and he has contributed more good in this world than most of us have or ever will. If he is a wanker then what do you call 99% of the artist out there?
Tell me you wouldn't stop putting up w the corporate bullshit and take the money?
I couldn't imagine rock and blues without him or Jeff Beck, they earned the right to do whatever they damn well want. Fame has nothin to do w talent!
@PEPPYY22 Because until certain BRITS stop calling that wanker Eric Clapton God, we Yanks need to point out all the guys who could eat him for lunch, musically speaking...
I think what really differentiates Clapton from Beck is that Clapton is a triple threat. Clapton can play, sing and write while Beck is just a guitar player. Of course they have two different styles.
can any one tell me were to see anymore vids of beck signing why doesnt he sing more does he suck or is he shy about it can't tell here. either way his guitar is always singing
You're right! The late, great Nicky Hopkins! What a fabulous musician! Did some great stuff with the Stones from '68 to '75 or so. R.I.P Nicky. Love and miss you, brother.
agree with the comments on the "sound" of the 80's. noticed this in all the MJ replays lately as well (Thriller has great material but sounds like a big digital headache vs. the warmth of the off the wall...the ugly first steps of digital audio...). ah well, beck is beck, killer as always...
Unbelivable energy on that stage - what do you mean"that's not Ron Wood" ? Of cours it is - he's obviously walked on at 4.20. Everyone turns and looks at him. Jeff gives him the nod, a bit later AFL says "There's another one"...then shortly after you hear him urge Jeff Beck's former bass player to play some lead "Go on Ron" (He comes in at the wrong time for his first attempt)
I love that bit he does before the song starts - can you imagine being in that auience with that being the only sound echoing around the place - corrrrr!!!!
Would love to be able to do that wee trick he pulls at 3.24, Rory Gallagher does a similar thing on the opening track of Irish Tour 1974 dvd, brilliant wee move :)
Hmm yeah, well they say Beck is the guitar player's player - Clapton's probably easier to listen to for just anybody, non-musicians included. I guess he's like BB King in that way, sortve accessible. For me though its not about who can do more with their fingers, its more who makes the sweeter music. But yeah, love Beck's playing on Amused to Death, the Roger Waters' album.
I am more of Clapton fan than Jeff Beck fan but Jeff Beck is a better all round player than Clapton. On the Clapton from Cream can compete with the Jeff Beck that was on show in this clip. That's hard for to admit but it's true. Beck has more in repotoir.
@WWWFTVCOM Jeff Beck is the guitar player Eric Clapton always wished he could be. Eric milked the blues thing while he was trying to be outside the box. Jeff was kicking the box down the mountain...

watch a bit longer and you'll see Mr. Wood contribute a lick circa the 5-minute mark.
