I am not an illegal nor are my children. Their father was a legal immigrant who worked until the last week of his life when he had a cerebral hemorrhage. I paid the twenty percent of hospital bills he owed from his life insurance after he died -- more than fifty thousand dollars. I raised my two kids alone with no government assistance of any kind on a LPN's salary. No subsidy for child care, no subsidy for the cost of school lunch. I paid it all.

It is not free health care. It is universal health care. As for poor choices, what is your LDL? How healthy is your diet? With the COBRA, I have been paying about six hundred forty dollars a month for health care.
I cannot take a much bigger hit but I would be glad to pay seven hundred dollars a month so that health care could be available to every citizen. I work in a doctors' office and I know what it means to turn away people who need medical care and who are willing to pay but only have twenty dollars in their pocket. Willing to give that twenty dollars but asked to pay two hundred up front.
If I paid seven hundred dollars a month for universal health care, that would include my daughter who works every day of her life and who could have no insurance without my willingness to pay COBRA.
It would include many hard working people who are not fortunate enough to have a union to advocate for them. Before I was a nurse, I was a welder and I know what UNION means. No union worth its balls would allow a company to withold health coverage for a year of employment. Would you work for a company who did not provide health coverage for an entire year? That is just plain wrong.

Even my teenage son -- who also started working at sixteen -- makes more than the minimum. My husband died when our oldest child was two and the youngest was two months. I paid my share of premiums for my kids for eighteen years through my employer -- about four hundred dollars a month out of my paycheck. Then, my daughter develops a chronic illness when she was eighteen. Rarely used the insurance until then.
This girl started working on her sixteenth birthday and she has worked every day that she was not in the hospital since. Her life is work. Work is everything in the world to her. Her company manager has told me what a great job she does. But she cannot EARN insurance with that company until she has been there a year.
So, I have to pay three hundred dollars COBRA for her to have coverage so that she can work to EARN her health care. This takes a huge chunk out of my paycheck. She pays six hundred dollars a month rent plus utilities for her own place because she is independent by nature and does not want help.
You did as you say you earned it.. Why do all of you think we deserve our health care.. Granted I believe if one has paid into the system as you have then you have earned it and deserve health care and I don't mind seeing our government pay for it.. But remember when the government pays you get very poor coverage or care..Maybe just maybe if we stopped give out our series to all the filthy border bandits we might have some left over for our own.

This is why I disagree with the idea of a wall between Mexico and the US. The wall needs to be placed much farther north -- not just for the sake of keeping Mexicans and disheartened Americans out of Canada but for preventing the US from Canadian socialism and general cultural snobbery from seeping down to the US. See thats what I meant, these countries have not implemented a health care system for everybody and its fantastic that you have private healthcare. But wouldnt it be good to know that your insurance will pay everything also when you might get a chronic illness and you need medicine everyday? Many people are only coming to the US because they are fleding their country because of horrible circumstances, in the case of Mexico this isnt the reality and its the Mexican government who has to improve the conditions for their own workers. A flow of goods is good but being paid a fair wage is more important and higher prices for say lemons can be paid if workers get a decent salary. I like the US, too. I was born and raised here. I love the mountains where I live. I think that the US does have some problems that are unique but I do think that we could open up some and learn.
Michael Moore does controversial things and yes health care for all is expensive but in the end its worth it. Have a look at Scandinavia or Switzerland, every country has problems but at least they dont have to worry about their lives...

I am not an illegal nor are my children. Their father was a legal immigrant who worked until the last week of his life when he had a cerebral hemorrhage. I paid the twenty percent of hospital bills he owed from his life insurance after he died -- more than fifty thousand dollars. I raised my two kids alone with no government assistance of any kind on a LPN's salary. No subsidy for child care, no subsidy for the cost of school lunch. I paid it all.

My husband died when our oldest child was two and the youngest was two months. I paid my share of premiums for my kids for eighteen years through my employer -- about four hundred dollars a month out of my paycheck. Then, my daughter develops a chronic illness when she was eighteen. Rarely used the insurance until then.

I agree but if our country would stop helping out or should I say giving away services to the illegals we woul be much better off and could do something to assist ... It is my onion that every person who has paid into SS for a period of 25 yrs or more should have their health covered period.. including their spouses.

I totally agree on that! Many people are only coming to the US because they are fleding their country because of horrible circumstances, in the case of Mexico this isnt the reality and its the Mexican government who has to improve the conditions for their own workers. A flow of goods is good but being paid a fair wage is more important and higher prices for say lemons can be paid if workers get a decent salary. I am studying International Studies, if you want to we can exchange emails:-)

I like the US, too. I was born and raised here. I love the mountains where I live. I think that the US does have some problems that are unique but I do think that we could open up some and learn.

Michael Moore does controversial things and yes health care for all is expensive but in the end its worth it. Have a look at Scandinavia or Switzerland, every country has problems but at least they dont have to worry about their lives...

I live in one of those countries you refering to, living standard is way higher there, people are more open and as Michael Moore said they live longer and the productivity is higher. Yes, they are fighting others demons and have problems but at least nobodys dies in the streets because he had accident. And whats so bad in looking after each other?

When illness and injury are reasons to make a profit--that is obscene! Something is VERY VERY WRONG. Instead, let's all join together as decent, caring, human beings (we are all in this life experience together) and make sure that everyone receives good healthcare. We are way behind all other industrialized countries in this area and it's past time to change this failure of for-profit healthcare. Contact your senators and congresspersons and let them know we need free healthcare for all!

The issue is that healthcare is a basic human right just as food, clean water, clean air and decent shelter are. People, this isn't just about being able to afford heath care. It's about the entire profit motive behind health insurance companies and how they deny people procedures they know that the person will die without in order to maintain their bottom line of increasing shareholder value.
Everyone could have private health care packages payed by Gov't tomorrow and ppl would still be dying from lack of health care due to the companies denying costly medically valid claims to save money.
