hey everyone, this is chipwichesrool, for whatever reason youtube wont let me on this account anymore so you can see my newest lessons on GuitarSoulDude
@genirocs Tune your guitar to dropped D, then from the bottom string ( thats the one at the top, go figure) re-tune your guitar as you normally would. Now you have a D tuned guitar like this bloke is playing. If you normally play in dropped D, you can do the same but you will be in dropped C. If you like this sound, I suggest you buy heavier gauge strings, you will get less fret buzz. I use 10-52's personally. Hope this helps bud.
for the guy with the guitar and amp question.. i own a line 6 spider four series, first of all not prove the guy in this videos wrong bc he did help me thats for dam sure lol, but i own the thirty watt and it is amazing.. if u like metal get a line 6 spider, there are some effects, not super great in that asspect but still good enough. and if u get this amp, bc its all digital, it doesnt matter what kind of guitar u use. if u have active pick-ups, dont activate them with this amp, bc
This was a great shred video for beginners such as myself. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Please make more becuase I will need it! Thanks for the help =D
I think this is a great video for Beginners such as myself and thanks for all of your help!! Keep making more videos cuz I'm gonna need it!! Two thumbs up... =D
dude great vid ive been messin around for bout 3 yrs and i know no scales how important are they. i can play basic riffs thats it like rock you like a hurricane paranoid iron man and the intro to crazy train i also can play most of enter sandman i want to be really fast any tips for me ill gladly take em cool guitar by the way looks like gus g's
Dude, thanks alot for taking the time to make this, it's great for intermediate guys like me who abuse minor pentatonics but want to go further. Just a side note, you should use your your right pinky or ring finger as an anchor on the pick guard area. It really improves speed and accuracy like you won't believe. I don't know if you do it or not, but I ddin't see it in this video and its really helpful for shredding. Thanks again
i play anything, i like rock solo's just not chorus unless it sounds good, i like some metal riffs as long as the metal has no words lol. and i also love to play Renaissance guitar hope i spelled that right. but the true problem lies in the fact that i bought an 80 dollar pawn shop excel guitar that has a short in it, and my amp is a basic crate amp...actual brand name...its over drive sounds horrible...one of my fav guitarist is Andy McKee.
@circutwolf what kinda music r u playing? for amps im kinda curious about the line 6 spider jam, i tested it and it sounds amazing but its a little pricey. if ur going for line 6 dont get anything below 50 watts! vox makes great amps and marshall amps are good above 15 watts
The diminished chord is either the the 5th degree of a major key, or the second degree of a minor key, first learn the chord order for major keys, then if you start at the 6th degree of the major and go 6-7-1-2-3-4-5, its the minor chord pattern, voila!
r u in D standard? lol cuz i was playin this on my 7 string razorback (i wasnt hittin the low B, of course, and it sounded a whole step higher than your guitar. but maybe its because im sick and my ears are fucked up lol
Hey guess what? you suck so much you could probably suck a golf ball through a garden hose.btw i came on your pillow last night while i was fucking your mom. she's left handed. did you know that?
Hey guess what? you suck so much you could probably suck a golf ball through a garden hose.btw i came on your pillow last night while i was fucking your mom. she's left handed. did you know that?
hey, just as a matter of interest, how long have you been playing guitar. cos ive been playing since christmas, and id like to know as a rough guide to how long i should be playing till i can do stuff like that, cos thats pretty damn impressive, and its one of the few videos showing how to play guitar thats actually helped. thanks!
iv been playing for about 2 years now, but dont base your experience off of anyone else. Never strive to be as good as someone. You should plan to be the best while maintaining a reasonable pace
my mind would be blown after watching this lesson in my first few weeks haha if you can learn anything from this more power too you, youre gonna do amazingly down the way good luck!
Ya thanks : ) Well I tend to worry less about the how big the task is and more on how I can do that. I likely will not be able to get any of this right for weeks but I shall try :P
i agree with you but for practice purposes if you use the neck pickup it allows slightly less sound to escape in terms of buzz, and therefore when you mess up it is slightly less noticeable. It is a much more controlled pickup
mind you phyrigian dominant in E can also be A Harmonic Minor. Same thing. Thats why i love guitar :P so many patterns that are different and the same
Its hard to see your fingers but do you hold down the lower frets and play the higher ones in sequence or release after each note is played. Like when I practice runs such as 1-2-3-4 do you hold down all the lower frets or release and use each finger individually?
everything depends on what youre playing. Im not sure exactly where this question applies to in the video, but its all about comfort really. holding down lower notes wont effect the sound or tone, and it often makes faster runs easier, so go for it- but if you practice normally by NOT holding the other notes down, stick with that. Im not sure if that answers your question, so tell me if theres more that needs to be said k?
Hey as a beginner to shredding, this is going to help me a lot. Especially seeing as i'm not too hot on reading all the strange symbols used in tab and stuff. I don't know much theory at all, but i do have a book on guitar scales, so i guess i should look up on that.. Thanks for the video - it's great! :)
thanks for the feedback, scales are always a good thing and while i may seem like a hypocrite, you should always learn theory if youre going to be a successful musician and definitely for shred/neoclassical guitarists. All it can do is help right?
ya know, ive been looking for a good shred lesson video on yt for a couple months now. and then i saw urs, which was really helpful. it was nice to see someone using terms and naming scales instead of just giving the tabs. how am i supposed to look more into things without knowing what theyre called. great playing by the way, and keep posting vids!!!
Hey man, your not a bad guitar player but I did just want to say... It's awesome to learn theory and I would encourage you to do so but... If you don't know theory dont talk about it like you do lol. Not because its wrong but only because other people will take it as accurate and than they have a false understanding and ya, blabla. It's all good, your on your way to being an awesome player and i dont mean any offense. Keep it up.
hey thanks, i do appreciate that. Im not horrible along the lines of theory, its just that certain things are a little too technical. I do use certain terms i dont understand which i realize i shouldnt do, but its really all for the sake of naming something that i otherwise would have referred to as "just do this thing here," or something along those lines. Im still workin on the whole theory part though, but thanks!
ive played guitar for 12 years now. And i have learned that being good at theory, nessecary dont make you a good guitar player. This was understandeable for beginners. That would be the point of this video.
I was playing along and I noticed that what you're playing is 1 step below me. You labeled the scale under a tuning of E but your playing in E. It almost confused me. Thought Id let you know. :)
hey no worries, what you can teach others and what you can incorporate into actual soloing are two different strings, I may have taught the lesson (and messed up quite a bit) but i still need just as much work as anyone watching it!
question. im very new to electric guitar. so do u tink that i shud start by learnin all the scales such that i can do it real fast before i move on to anything at all? im a big fan of shreddin and i really wanna be good in it. thx
For me, and dont take this too seriously cus different things work for different people, I started mainly with blues when i soloed. Eventually i played more metal and then built up to shred. I learned Pentatonic, Aeolian, Locrian, Ionian, Myxilodian, and then phrygian. I used all of the scales but i really just messed around more than anything else. The beauty of guitar is you learn best when youre not trying to learn. Screw around and see what happens. Good luck!
dude, your fking awsome and your lesson just took me to the next level in soloing, but I just kept wondering, for how long have you've been playing the guitar??
'cause i am realy struggling with getting more speed into my scales. major pentatonics with alternate picking sometimes make me angry 'cause i can not play them as fast as i want to play them.
i think all of your lessons are fabulous!! and they help bunch!! last week or so probs before that i was sitting at my computer with my loverly guitar... attempting to play some of what you have here and i seem to be getting alot better !! thanks! :D
i personally stay down a step for more of that metal shred feel to it, but many who shred for the classical portion of it stay in standard or down a semi-tone
dont know any guitar theory at all diminishing scales and stuff i just sort of go from lesson to lesson trying to improve my playing i supppose i should learn them i know a lot of chords but have no idea what they are called
if you want to know chord theory, look up tabs for chord scales, so take like a B scale and take like the 7th note off the scale and add it to a B and you now have a B7. ( I THINK, that was explained to me quickly recently so i haven't actually had time to mess around with that yet). Theory helps but is unnecessary if you are just a jam kinda guy
i suggest everyone checks out my other lessons where i integrate shred skills all the time!
i plug directly into a line 6 spider III 15w amp and keep delay all the way up for the most part, probably not the best idea but it all depends on what you like
They help me, and even if they dont help along the lines of shred, its always good to know as many scales as you can! these scales give kind of a diminished sound to your soloing
could of done with tab on bottom of screen because i keept having to rewind to memorize it but still good lesson ive been tring a very hard shred for 2 days mastering these should help these were a bit to easy for me but sound pretty cool keep it up

What does everyone think the best guitar tuning is for shred/metal?
GuitarForALiving 3 years ago
i personally stay down a step for more of that metal shred feel to it, but many who shred for the classical portion of it stay in standard or down a semi-tone

Ok thanks very much for the advice...great video aswell!

oh and nice 1 with the tab cant fault this for anything i still havent got to learning all of it but i will

dont know any guitar theory at all diminishing scales and stuff i just sort of go from lesson to lesson trying to improve my playing i supppose i should learn them i know a lot of chords but have no idea what they are called
beech9999 3 years ago
if you want to know chord theory, look up tabs for chord scales, so take like a B scale and take like the 7th note off the scale and add it to a B and you now have a B7. ( I THINK, that was explained to me quickly recently so i haven't actually had time to mess around with that yet). Theory helps but is unnecessary if you are just a jam kinda guy
i suggest everyone checks out my other lessons where i integrate shred skills all the time!

hey thx for makin this video! this helps a lot. :D so how do u get that sound when you shred? some kind of distortion box?
deankeen 3 years ago
i plug directly into a line 6 spider III 15w amp and keep delay all the way up for the most part, probably not the best idea but it all depends on what you like

thanx man, i really want to learn to shred... hope the scales you gave can help.
momot29 3 years ago
They help me, and even if they dont help along the lines of shred, its always good to know as many scales as you can! these scales give kind of a diminished sound to your soloing

could of done with tab on bottom of screen because i keept having to rewind to memorize it but still good lesson ive been tring a very hard shred for 2 days mastering these should help these were a bit to easy for me but sound pretty cool keep it up

Thats a good idea, iv thought about it but i guess i might as well go through with it, Im adding in tabs now as annotations
thanks for the idea
