I can understand that some people consider planning for these worst case scenarios to be negative. If we lived in a society that was able to handle the worst, then we'd live better in peacetime. Here in central Texas, we get most our water in one year every 12 years-ish.

The summer of '07 seemed like it was raining every day. Just going down to float the river was crazy because the water levels were very high and the flow rate was much greater.

Guess it's like a camel... suck up a shit ton of water for the long haul. It does get very dry / 'draughty,' especially towards the end.

We're waiting for this solar period to pick up. It's been very quiet the last year... with months of NO sun spots (very unusual). The next peak is expected in 2012.

Farmers are paid not to grow and other farm land is being used for the bullshit E85 corn growing. People will starve, but we'll have gas for our trucks!

And when our economy collapses... what will be the motivation for farmers to supply cities? It won't matter if the land is unharmed: No money, no food.

have you checked at nasa website the article called "solar storm warning?" it could be in 2010, 2011 or 2012. but it will definetely happen. we don't know how strong it will be, but it will happen.

I agree. A solar storm is inevitable... but when? We have no clue. Maybe next year is the Eight-Ball-Corner-Pocket shot that has a solar flare hit us dead-on and wipe out all our modern technology (anything with wires).

Or it could be a thousand years from now.

But, what I gather is... the best guess right now is that 2012 is the peak of the peak of solar activity over the past 400+ years.
