I think that some people are just hard-core against emulation. Personally I still like to play my NES stuff with original hardware and carts, but I can see the appeal of emulation. One of my plans for this year is to get a Mame cabinet built, so obviously I think emulation is fine. Cool project, glad to see that you are enjoying it!
Maybe you should ditch emulation and become a REAL collector.. ( J/K, my bad attempt at being negative in this post)
I think it's a neat project and admittingly, I was looking for projects for an HDMI NES myself. Every video I've seen online has the bottom gutted out to put in a fan. I don't remember seeing in your videos discussing a fan...did you insert a fan? How is the system kept cool? Could it be possible to list the specs on your HDMI NES? Thanks, and keep up the cool work!
@liquid4058 thanks, The mother board is the Asus AT3IONT-I Deluxe, w/ built in Video, Intergrated Atom 330 Processor, built in Wireless, External DC power supply. It claims to be a fanless design but it still required it in this setup. It was perfect for this project.
Also it doesn't matter if it's not perfect as some of your other commenters moan about.people should remember its about having fun.also for anybody else seeing the excellent job that 16bitghost has done, you don't have to go the whole hog any computer will play emulators.get a 360 wired remote, drag your computer into your front room hook it to the tv and have a laugh.
Excellent job.Would you consider making a video about other favourite emulators on your nes pc for other systems.i think your video is popular because you get down to the nuts and bolts,us geeks love nuts and bolts.dont worry about moaners.
Why not throw in a front-end? Will help with the 'stand-alone console' feeling, and you won't need any other devices besides controllers (also will get rid of most of OS interaction, if not all once fully configured). If you like the idea, I recommend HyperSpin, is pretty good, nice looking, have a lot of customization options, and also is completely free. Also on the emulation vs. real hardware, hate/love is more binded to nostalgia than to technical stuff.
Unfortunately i think that unless you make gameplay videos you will probably be completely unaware of the issues involved with capturing footage from CRT televisions.I think your NES is awesome, not only does it look the part but it eliminates all of the issues that leave me scratching my head everytime i try to record a gameplay video :)
5) And finally, if you're still unsatisfied with the results and lack of authenticity I'd suggest looking into NES emulation on the Wii, coupled with a nice SDTV. The Wii is able to output NES games at their native resolution, which an SDTV will handle beautifully, with the added benefit of Component video support. It's truly the best way to go in terms of both picture clarity and authenticity.
3) Ensure that games run in a 4:3/NTSC ratio, NES games don't natively run in that ratio, nor are they designed to run in a 16:9 ratio.
4) Basic filtering and scanline overlays go a long way in creating an authentic feel. Game developers took scanlines into account when creating their work. This doesn't mean introducing faux RF artifacts and the like however, that's being overly nostalgic.
Just a few tips for those looking to do this kind of thing:
1) Configure whichever emulator you use to run at your display's native resolution. This will often reduce video lag and improve picture clarity as your display doesn't have to stretch anything. Setting your display to "game mode" generally helps as well.
2) Match your emulator's refresh rate with your display's, this will remove screen tearing and stuttering. Disabling the sprite limit will also reduce flicker.
I would have to recalculate what I spent, and I probably wouldn't offer any operating system to avoid any lawsuit..but people may not like it without one..I really don't know.
and apparently all of the "Comment failed" messages I got last week didn't.
hahaha...

@devilussion I just recently discovered HyperSpin and it sound like a great idea, but I thought it was a free trial with a limit.
I really want to try it.
