The most well-known version by the Sonics was incredible and the riff was nasty then...it seemed ahead of its time, these guys made it just DISGUSTING wow this is great.
Brothers was an abortion. Really hope these guys find their groove again. Started listening to them in the early 2000's. Heard one of their songs in a skate video and was hooked.
@nikkisixxual really? brothers is one of the best albums of the 21st century, just because it isn't hard bluesy rock doesn't mean its not genius. These guys are so good they could do any genre and be the best.. oh wait they did - Blakroc
@TheMrdmo Yes, it is. One of my earliest memories was my Mom used to have the 45 of the Sonics "The Witch" with "Psycho" on the other side. But yeah, I'm a newbie to the Black Keys and so far I like what I hear!
@SooperMablo nevermind, actually look for healthy white baby on google, their songs are on their myspace. I love "it's over" but all their songs are awesome
@ImTrevorMontgomery I don't know about this recording specifically, but Dan often has one or two Sovtek green Russian big muff pi fuzz boxes on his board live. I read an article where he said his favorite fuzz through smaller amps is a Shinei fy-2 companion fuzz. out of production, and quite expensive if you find one. fy-2 clones/kits are common though.
@ImTrevorMontgomery I belive it's either an original version of the type of pedal Keith Richard's used on "Satisfaction," or a cheap copy, i know it's supposed to get that maestro tone though.

There album Brothers exploded into the mainstream and we can no longer pretend we are 'special' for liking them. @matthound they are huge now. similar thing with arcade fire. my guess is that electronic music is so pervasive that a 'real' rock band driven by guitar is something of a novelty now. I hope i'm wrong, personally the guitar will never be replaced by a set of decks, but i know plenty of people who would disagree. you can have david guetta and his fans...
@DeKleikop ...who covered it from Richard Berry. It's crazy how far back this awesome garage rock standard/early rock stuff goes. I just came accross brown eyed handsome man by chuck berry so I listened to more of his stuff. you can really hear his influence.
@Pirate7X why would you need viagra in the first place? perhaps the level of awfulness in your attempt to be in the top comments is related to your terrible sense of humor that may as well not exist... yes. you have just been owned.
@Pirate7X stop being so upset about the fact that you're mom ties you down and rapes you in the ass with a strap-on after she's done selling herself on the street.
btw you're dads a fucking loser who made the mistake of jizzing up you're moms ass to produce you.
Are you kidding me with the whole captain beefheart's version was better, PLEASE. The only person that i have found that comes even remotely close to being better on a original version is junior kimbrough and still at that there is just something magical that happens when the black keys lays there musical talents upon a worthy song to be remastered. And that's all i have to say about that.
Discovered these guys 'way back' in 2005, when I purchased a CD/DVD supposedly punk rock compilation at Wal-Mart. Most of it was semi-crap, and The Black Keys didn't even have a song on the CD - but 10AM Automatic was on the DVD. Immediately I was hooked. LOL To think that this event so enhanced my life that its worth is immeasurable compared to the $10.99 I spent that day...The Good Lord bless The Keys, and all of us who appreciate raw guitar-beat blues and rock and roll music!
I disagree with the Sonics version being infinitely better, I wouldn't go that far. I prefer this version, I like the grittyness. The Sonics just isn't my style sound wise.
Captain Beefheart's I'm Glad, in my opinion is a better example of the original being better than the Black Keys' version.
I love the Black Keys, and this is a great tune. But it is completely different than the beginning. The mood in which they play it and everything is just completely different. This one is way more chill, but personally I prefer the Sonics version just cus it was so much more wild.
@tcsdef Number 1, so what if he's gay? Secondly, how does comparing the two to the Black Keysimply him liking getting rammed up the ass??? Seriously, pick your words more carefully next time...
@CriMSWoW hey now, I don't go insulting Justin Bieber so try not to insult the bands I like. Well, i actually do, but that's not the point. I don't click on links for his songs so I can badmouth him. @chilling10680 Im glad someone agrees with me, I like DangerMouse, but Thickfreakness,MagicPotion and Rubber Factory were sent here by god . . . brothers was just a good album.
@Chilling10680 I disagree. I think Brothers, Magic Potion, and Attack & release are their best, in that order. Obviously your musical tastes are not too different to mine as you appreciate this great band! It's similar to Kings of Leon, people slated them for losing touch with Only By The Night. I see this as growth/maturity/experimentation. Each Brothers track has character, other albums are more theme based and carry the same sound on each song. Themed albums are cool but growing old.
@scrrrtin4v What I meant by the "original" version was the band who had the hit with it. Richard Berry had a good version, but his song didn't become popular until The Sonics redid it. Kind of like when Bob Dylan released "All Along the Watchtower", it didn't become big until Jimi Hendrix redid it.
@beermeparis they're underrated, not until Brothers did they blow up, and that's a shame because their best music was in their earlier albums like Rubber Factory, Thickfreakness and Magic Potion.
I love The Black Keys, they have kind of a 60s feeling to them, but The Sonics are pretty much the best on this song. But it is great! I think it's freaking fantastic that there's a popular band doing covers off good old songs. :D
