@juan321654 displacement maps directly modify the geometry essentially creating and moving real physical polygons. normal maps are modifying the shading of the model but not the actual geometry.
oh man I'm having some trouble I do everything you say yet when I go into the image browser and try to select the folder it simply wont let me the "choose" button is completely shaded out I cant click it.....any ideas?
Autodesk should make a feature that allows painting/sculpting at the same time. This is a feature Autodesk has been talking about since v2009. This would speed some things up.
@Heartly07 Funny you should say that, ZBrush is actually one of the few programs left that doesn't support vector displacement maps. They still use standard greyscale.
hi . he loses a lot of time.
he talks without doing anything for 2 minutes so start the video from 2:05 .
he sculpts the shape he is going to displace for an entire 7 minutes . so fast forward to 9:00 if you dont want to see it.
real action takes place in between 9:00 to 14:00 where he creates a custom vector map he tells how to apply the map to sculpting from 14:00 to 18:31

@TofurkeyMan It would be nice if other autodesk products supported vector displacement.

This would be perfect for making HR. Giger repetitive patterns in his backgrounds.
