This is where the engines (pumpers) hook into the stand pipe system to get water to the sprinkler systems (if they are dry systems) and to the stand pipes in the stairwells, or in some highrises, in the corridors. That is how we fight most high rise fires. Just thought I would pass that along so you would know. :-)

  • Sorry for posting so late, I just saw your video today. FYI, in case you ever see something like this again, you were right when you said they went inside to get to the fire. I am not familiar with Toronto FD, but most ladder and aerial trucks only reach between the 7th and 10th floors. All fire dept's have "high rise packs" on the engines which will attach to those stand pipes you see in your stairwells. You have also probably seen the stand pipes outside of high rise bldgs which say "fire
