Can't believe I have the chance to see the King in the flesh this coming Saturday, live! I'm so excited, I thought that he would have passed away by now. That's a real musician, playing 'till the day they die - even in bad health and old age.
A Bird in the Hand Indeed, just followed it from someone mentioning it in the comments on the Cube song, fuck me, i listened to Death Certificate when i was fifteen in 1991/2, just come back to it now and could still remember most of the lyrics. Superb, as is this song which ive just found thanks to the sample.
@TheSalientSoul Rememba that DJ Pooh/Ice Cube originally used this sample in the movie Boyz 'N Tha Hood...they seen when Tre was on his way home from the cookout to bring his pops some food, 'n the car of Bloods roll'd up on him ('n dude whip'd the shotgun out on him)!!! The original is a classic tho'...B.B. King was a monster!!!

midnitegt, i'm with you, so glad I had the privilege of being brought up on real music with soul and a story...I saw B B king about ten years ago now when I was 16 and it was still the gig of my life
It's horrible to live in a day where so many people listen to that mainstream hip hop and have no real ear for real music. I'm 24 and I just thank my father for letting me know what real music is, I remember this was the first B.B. king song I heard when I was in riding down the road with my father. I will make sure I pass this amazing genre down to my children, so they know what real music is and not just know songs about backin that ass up. May you live forever BB!!!
Try "Lucille" by the B. and "I need your love so bad" by Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac. AND, "I'll play the Blues for you" by Albert King. Man you are in for what will be the ONLY kind of music that will not let go of you. You are done, and will forever be a bluezer. Enjoy the best music ever, Blues Rules!
@MrBluesrules as a person who is passionately moved to the depths of my very core by jazz music, I feel it's a bit closed minded for you to consider this the ONLY music that can get a person off.
Don't misinterpret this as hating on the blues. I can't stop listening to this track, and I'm crazy excited about going to see BB on Valentine's Day :)
Jimi Hendrix album "Blues" is really, really nice as well.
Some amazing Jazz Blues: search for Hank Mobley Soul Station.
@tristramshandy3 Well then ya gotta love John Coltrane, and Miles Davis',Summertime , Porgy and Bess. I'm always taken by Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond doin the Take Five, or live at Newport 1958. But these Blues won't let go, and I gotta have the B.
@MrBluesrules Miles Davis' album Kind of Blue is the greatest studio recording in the history of music. After that, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and Thelonious Monk are my heroes.
Life is good.
Have you read the complete essays of Montaigne yet?
My hope is to inspire 100,000 people to do just that.
Haven't read Montaigne. I will give it a look. I would recommend to anyone, "Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith. We could all use a better understanding of the integrety, and proper ethics of the economics of capitalism without the criminal element.
@MrBluesrules Smith had been on my "to read" list for years. I am not convinced that capitalism without the criminal element has or ever will exist. In fact, it seems just the opposite.
Adam Smith is a fine read. I do believe Capitalism can be of benefit to all people. The current structure of world economics, and Friedmanist Shock Doctrine just won't allow for it. It's a crime.
B.B. King said Carole King, who is playing the keyboards on this track and most of the album, Mississippi seeds, came up with the opening bars...great song.
Rap/Hip Hop has been around for almost 30 years, but young people act like it was discovered by their generation- when in fact it was force fed to them by Corporate America. @wlkalongyou I hope you're not talking about all hip-hop, cause i wouldn't say that Blues, or any genre is so untouchable, just cause it's older or helped inspired hip-hop, that doesn't mean shit
@wlkalongyou lol I love blues, but Im sorry you had to try and slay rap to get some likes, because if you knew better then you'd know most rappers love blues because it birthed rap music. rap where im from is called urban blues. im only (28) 1-2-81 but i love this old school shit
i love the (ice cube) bird in hand version or song with the gutar riff sample from this also especially when the red car pulls up in boyz-n-the hood movie & its bumping when heomey rolls down the rear window & pulls out the shotty
u need to listen to "UGK - Aint That A Bitch" they sample that BB King song "Chains N Things" and IMO did a wayyyy better job then Ice Cube's track u were talking about.
I like the UGK version but Bird in The Hand is much better. That is one of the all time great samples and is backed up by great lyrics. IMO Cube's best song.
In reponse to montecarlomayne, and tw69hands2, you are SO right. This is one of the most amazing songs ever. I literally think it is the best song ever created. Fucking amazing.
When I saw that Ice Cube sampled it from BB King I had to check it out and I'm amazed. It's pretty cool how this one riff can be used in such a different context...
just amazing
i must sample this BB king is my favourite artist really gonna put the best to the track love from israel :)

u need to listen to "UGK - Aint That A Bitch" they sample that BB King song "Chains N Things" and IMO did a wayyyy better job then Ice Cube's track u were talking about.

I like the UGK version but Bird in The Hand is much better. That is one of the all time great samples and is backed up by great lyrics. IMO Cube's best song.

Calling any one song the best would be difficult, but this is DEFINITELY one of the best for sure.

As we say down here in the south, "This natural born, down home raw blues." This is too heavy for any lightweights that don't understand it.

When I saw that Ice Cube sampled it from BB King I had to check it out and I'm amazed. It's pretty cool how this one riff can be used in such a different context...
Gotta love Ice Cube and BB King.

@Ctownboi3 yeah the funny thing is, if you listen to Bird In The Hand, Cube is rappin' about the same misfortune.
