  • What's the name of the song at 2:32?

  • I think G#2 was the most valid low note he reached, I mean, even maybe the G2......the rest, not really, his easiness on mix is bcuz he has a naturally higher voice I guess, but damm he is good, but i prefer his singing rather than his high screams and belts, it sounds nicer

  • 4 octaves...impressive

  • WoW

  • His D2 needed a synth because his low notes are not very powerful, and therefore my theary is, he is a high tenor with some trouble hitting those low notes. Some low notes he sings are very weak and need a synth to produce them.

  • The perfect male voice.

  • I think his longest note, is his cover of Redemption Song. Just look it up.

  • @SingDriver101 He held a 15 second note in Redemption song.

  • amazing video !! what a range! anyone know what songs are 7:43 and 8:00 big fan of his :)

  • @comedymania999 8:00 is "He's Misstra Know-It-All". Not sure about 7:43, but it's definitely one of his mid to late 60s albums.

  • @MYM41

    7:43- You Can't Judge a Book By It's Cover

From his 'Signed, Sealed, Delievered' Album (1970)

  • Can you please tell me the song at 7:42 the B5! please reply thanks :)

  • 7:42 -also what song? (B5)

  • love this vid commented before lool what song is 5:08? :P

  • SW The best forever (MJ, Beattles, Mozart, james brown, Elvis, EWF, Miles davis, Elton john, beethoven behind......)

  • which is the song in 1:03 with A2?

  • Stevie Wonder - I Ain't Gonna Stand For It

  • @swbsdavid no ;P I mean the second song after that

  • Outstanding! Can you message me the order of songs?

  • Could you give me a list of those songs that have been used in this video plz.

    Thx

  • I loved the video. Can you tell me what the song at 0:50 is called please?

  • @FutureAbe I Ain't Gonna Stand For It

  • @FutureAbe I ain't gonna stand for it

  • @pianop90 @FutureAbe @IloveArethaFranklin whats the song at 7:42? - B5 in head voice

  • CONTRA-TENOR

  • heh, long and hard

  • @Funkredible

    At Last

  • D6 in head voice? I don't think so.

  • how did stevie get his range to be so high? he can belt out really high notes. i wish i could do that.

  • @EddieRamon something about when he was blind he uses power that we normally wouldn't use with our body sounds kina strange but that's how gifts are

  • Great job! Cool video!

  • @IloveArethaFranklin Two questions: what's the song at 4:05 when Stevie hits the Eb5 note and can you make vocal range videos for Brian McKnight and Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men?

  • the keyboardist and the guitarist is a different animal..we shouldn't compare the two....beatles and dylan..predominantly guitar music.....black music is predominantly keyboard piano music..

  • these notes are so amazing. Truly one of the greatest of all time! nobody can handle a song quite like Stevie wonder. He has his own way of interpreting a song, and that's what makes him one of a kind.

  • enough having arguements/conversations on comments... you like who you like and if you like one person better than the other then keep it to yourself, everyone has their opinion

  • You use head voice to describe falsetto? I think his full voice reaches somewhere around A5, G5 for sure. But there are many wrong pitches here and many notes described as upper chest voice are easily just strong falsetto. But the video does give a good idea about the range of Mr. Wonder

  • @Goblonaut

Yessir... Some of his upper chest notes are heavily mixed, he is one of the few males that have mastered mixed voice. Also, you might get the idea because Stevie resonates many of his belts in the head....

  • @IloveArethaFranklin whats that D5 at 3:50?

  • @IloveArethaFranklin I like to call them belted mixed notes.. It's not falsetto, nor pure headvoice.. It's the same as Adam Lambert does and what Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson did.

  • @Goblonaut

there is no such thing as "strong falsetto" that´s mix in the upper chest and head voice for the higher notes

  • @IVANOF78 Of course there is, that's like saying that there's no strong chest voice. Chest voice can be used for more quiet singing in low notes for example, but also for belting. Same with falsetto, you can get this soft airy sound with falsetto, but you can also belt with falsetto too. Normal chest and head voice just can't reach pitched like D6 without turning into falsetto(except some females can belt there).

  • @a1d2h Okay. I acknowledge his influence. I'm just telling you that I like Marvin better in just about every aspect. That's all...

  • @a1d2h I'm not talking about influence. I'm just saying that I'd rather listen to Marvin's lyrics than Bob's. Bob's MAY HAVE influenced Marvin's (maybe not) but that's irrelevent when I'm picking an album out of my collection. And it is an opinion.

  • @a1d2h Okay. I still like Marvin as a songwriter more so than Dylan. To me anything Marvin is better than anything Bob. But we can agree to disagree.

  • @KrfNYC2 If you just regardlessly think ANYTHING Gaye is better than anything Dylan, then you cannot and should not be taken seriously, and you'd be useless to discuss the topic with since your zeal usurps any substantial argument.

  • @Bluedybluedyblue But I don't say that Gaye is better than Dylan for no reason. I say this because I've listened to both and think that Gaye is FAR superior. That's all I'm saying. I don't see why this has turned into an argument.

  • @a1d2h I understand that Bob Dylan was wildely popular and respectedm but I don't like him pesonally...that's all. I would argue that Marvin Gaye was a far better musician than Dylan and I gather that you disagree with that. But you must, at least, admit that Marvin was a far superior vocalist. And there is a holy trinity of music FOR ME. There are artists who appeal to MY taste. It'sall relative.

  • @a1d2h I would replace Bob Dylan with Marvin Gaye. I don't like Bob Dylan at all. To me the holy trinity is Stevie, The Beatles and Marvin.

  • Stevie Wonder is the best living male singer on Earth!

  • Well this shows Stevie's vocal range!!!! Awesome! Well in beginning at :20 it's a talk box you hear from Secret Life Of Plants album (song called "Venus Flytrap & The Bug") but rest is his natural singing voice! :)

  • Can someone please tell me the name on 4:11

  • @WorldsGreatest1234 It might be "Signed, Sealed Delivered". I've heard it before but can't put my finger on it's title.

  • to anyone who reads this

can someone PLEASE make a video

dedicated to stevie's runs & riffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hello and first of all I would like to thank you for your hard work on this video! Stevie Wonder is without a doubt one of the GREATEST singer's and musician's of ALL TIME. What a song writer also! Second how long did it take you to create this wonderful piece of work documenting his vocal range? Third have you ever seen the clip of Stevie live where he slips into this amazing LITTLE KID VOICE? I saw it once on some TV show and it blew my mind. Running out of letters, more questions,THANK YOU.

  • Stevie's voice is very nasal, its because he's blind and doesn't know where his mouth is. All this time, he's been singing through his nose thinking its his mouth. Poor man

  • @HildaMcFumble You have no idea what you're talking about. He has had professional singing lessons where he sings from his diaphragm. Wanna know who taught him this? It's Seth Riggs who also taught MJ!

  • @HildaMcFumble What?

  • THANK YOU!!!!

  • You can't train for a voice like that. You have to born with it.

  • Great work, man!

  • I've run across vids that displayed vocals runs & riffs of Christina Aguilera, Aretha & Mariah. I'd love to check out one on Stevie.

  • Four Octaves and a head voice that goes past the "soprano C"? Any other reason why Stevie is one of the best vocalists? Love his singing and music : )

  • Great job!

  • Ok, his lowest note, the D2, kinda scares me. :/ But on the other hand, nice video!

  • AMAZING SINGER... : 0

  • I noticed you didnt used much of his vocals when he was younger. Was that on purpose?

  • @2young2old

The clips in this video range from age 16 to present. Over the 60s-70s his voice basically stayed the same, and then changed in around 1980/1981.

  • @IloveArethaFranklin ok kool. what changed about his voice around 1980/1981?

  • @2young2old

It lost alot of power, and thickness.

It thinned out alot, basically how he sounds today, except his voice today is higher and thinner than what it was in the 80s.

  • @IloveArethaFranklin

BTW great video, been hoping for one on him for a while. I just saw him recently and his power/thickness was still there. In fact when he did You and I, he raised the key to about an F and he sounded good up there. I would say the duration of his belts has diminished but his power has remained the same, he just tends not to belt as strong as before, probably because it would be more taxing due to his age.

  • Comment removed

  • @IloveArethaFranklin His chest voice lost some power belting those high full notes... now he uses upper register/ chest hitting them and they still sound good...when he's down lower, his voice actually sounds richer now...i guess cuz he's older.

  • @IloveArethaFranklin

Do you think his voice today is higher? I think it's alot deeper than it was in the 80s. I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices the voice change, although today his voice has matured and while not as soft as it used to be, very strong in my opinion. Regardless of era, his voice is amazing!

  • Stevie Wonder had an amazing range! Whatever happened to it?

  • omg!!!! I am currently sitting in this coffee shop and this stevie song came on that I;ve never heard before! Can anyone please please please tell me what song that is at 7:29? I would really appreciate it!

  • @pitakontak

    Moon Blue

  • @IloveArethaFranklin hey could u do a vocal range video for tevin campbell?

  • @IloveArethaFranklin hey could u do one for tevin campbell?

  • Whats the song starting at 4:57??

  • @enigma3500

Stranger On The Shore Of Love

  • d6 my foot. no male can hti above a c6 without some support from falsetto.

  • @thegodofpop1 no female can either. That's why they mix.

  • @happylarry well actually their headvoices could go up to about an eb6. so yes they actually could. but even for jhigh tenors like me their has to be some falsetto in their. but every other belt he does is mixed voice no falsetto wutso ever.

  • @thegodofpop1

Are you saying males can't go to D6 without putting falseeto in their head notes or belts?

  • @happylarry well i mean yea. the only thing thts close to a male hitting it in pure headvoice is super headvoice. whcih is absically whistle with head resonance. or falsettone=chest+head+falsetto. however, i have seen a male hit a c6 with headvoice.so far the highest belt my a male is a b5.

  • @thegodofpop1

Alot of this statement is not accurate.

  • @thegodofpop1 now that i think about it I can't remember hearing a male sing a D6 in head voice... but... I can lol

  • @happylarry actually i think Tevin Cambel has

  • @happylarry well i mean honestly i havent either. soif u could it wouldnt surprise me. its just tht the ihghest ive heard in modal voice from a male even basses is a c6. but if u really could hit a d6 goo1d for u!

  • @thegodofpop1 You can't mix falsetto and head voice together, those registers are accessed differently. I can hit D6 with my head voice but i can't hit it with my falsetto. From lowest to highest: Vocal fry, Modal, Falsetto, Head voice, Whistle.

  • @gordon051291 actually u can. but thts more for oera singing. like i said if u cud hita d andr a male tht s very god haha im already ealous. the highest cud mix s an eb6 but thts ony cuzim still a child

  • Him D6 in chest not was good, in head voice sounds better!!

  • I don't belive the D2! No tenor can do that! Can they?

  • @HildaMcFumble

Stevie is countertenor, and the D2 was synthesized and in complete vocal fry. Michael Jackson, countertenor also, as done an D2/Eb2 in vocal fry also.

  • @IloveArethaFranklin Countertenor! Synthesised? Doesn't that mean artificially made?

  • @HildaMcFumble

    No, not necessarily.

  • @IloveArethaFranklin So what do you mean by synthesised? I don't understand if it's actually him singing or if the note is autotuned.

  • has michael hit D6?? i've actually found a D6 belt from Ray Charles.

  • @TheCmeljazzman

Michael has a D6, and it will be in my updated vocal range video of his.

  • @TheCmeljazzman in what song Ray do that?

  • @rpaduag "Don't You Know" and i think a C6 in "Mess Around"

  • He's a legend and an inspiration to many including me. Of course his vocals are going to be top notch. I doubt there's a current male vocalist that can match him in artistry.

  • @MONRAYDAYIZBACK

    At Last

  • i think one of the best quotes i heard on Stevie was that he used synthesizer like an instrument. Artists today could learn a lot from him lol.

  • Damn Stevie is my idol. His range is SICK!!!!

  • 4 OCTAVES IN FULL VOICE! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

  • I didn´t know that Stevie has such a big range, his belting range is pretty impressive so is his headvoice.

    good job on the vid.

  • Whats the song where he hits D2?

  • @2young2old

    Venus Flytrap and The Bug

[Journey Through The Secret Life of Plants] [1979]

That album was mostly an instumental, and mad long. He barely sang. Still an amazing work though.

  • @IloveArethaFranklin I heard of that album. It still managed to sell back when it camr out even without a hit song.

  • @2young2old

Yes, that was solely due to his extreme popularity at the time. It was actually an extremely good album though even though it was instrumental.

  • @IloveArethaFranklin Stevie was actually the first artist to be called the King of Pop. I have this documentary of him from the 70s where they was calling him that.

  • WTF?! A word is not even able to place what he is. D6, a dude? D6 head voice a dude, then still be able to slip down to a sultry lower register. Those C6 & C#6 we're amazing, especially the 1st D6. The old school vocalist r not to be touched vocally. They're beyond astounding

  • @LifeisMusic07 o yea male sangers back in da day was off the chain like same cooke, stevie, jackie wilson, otis redding, peabo bryson, phil perry and da list goes on. I dont kno wat happened to em.

  • @olskolsoul me eitha, but some of them today are pretty good, just not as good as the old school sangers.

  • @LifeisMusic07 Yea da old sangers aint care how dey looked when they were sanging. Dey put they whole life into music and sangin. Today male sangers try to be too cool and sexy and end up being boring and dull.

  • @a1d2h

Man are you right, his albums from 1968-1980 are timeless. I feel that was truly his classic period.

  • @a1d2h too true.

  • awesome job! ionly know few males who can belt that high. most of them are gospel singers.

  • interesting how he can keep his masculinity in his voice so high! That's probably due to the raspy-ness of it

  • Such a ridiculously good voice.

  • This is amazing. One of the greatest vocalists, singers and musicians of all time. Thanks for this! This is just...wow!

  • @a1d2h Oh yes! Stevie is such fire!

  • He is one of the greatest singers of the history, he is amazing

  • You really read my mind! Another great video which I was waiting for :)

  • Epic!!!

  • AMAZING VIDEO... his vocal range is totally insane

  • Thanks for this! He's my favourite male vocalist of all time, and I will see him again in concert on the next July 5th.

It must have taken you a lot of time todo this. Wow. Amazing job.

  • @workitout80

    Thank You !

It did take me a while to complete this.

  • Vocal BEAST! for him to be able to go into the Bb5, B5 & D6 notes in Chest in just...unreal lol..

  • Do you know that I was gonna ask u to do this video next? My u and I think a like lol.

  • One of my absolute favourite male vocalists.

    The master of melisma ^^.

    Great video ^^.

  • This is awsome.

  • Thanks so much for doing this video! I love Stevie.

  • AHHHHHHH finally you have to do Marvin Gaye now lol

  • Such a magical human being. His music resonates in us all. Great Video, it must have taken a lot of effort going through all his work.

  • Excellent but I don't know if u can count any notes below f2f sound like fry do one for Luther

  • Stevie Wonder is the greatest...=)

  • @Marcia5Norf1

    He truly is.

  • Wow, never knew he was that good!

    Thanx 4 this vid, ILAF!

    Great work done!

  • @muzikaluvful

    Thank You

  • @muzikaluvful Yeah, same here. I watched "We are the world" after seeing a parody from a Japanese Tv show and was blown away by his section in that song. Amazing range.
