Anybody catch the part in the Scorsese/Dylan film "No Direction Home" (extras disc) where Liam, standing in a bar, sings a couple of verses of Girl From the North Country, gets a faraway look in his eyes, and says "I just love that song...".
God bless Liam, we shall never see his like again.
Last time I went looking for this song I found Dylan's performance in that faux log cabin with the log stove and all. It was a great piece. It seems that's been taken off you tube for whatever reason, which is a shame. Thank God Liam Clancy kept the truth going. RIP Liam. A true troubadour. Check out other videos of Liam Clancy, he was one in more than a million.
I love you Liam. and Will Forever!! You cant help but notice him living this song... how I would love to have been in his head and shared those memories with him. Liam sure knew how to paint a picture through his songs.. Ive yet to see another as breathtaking as he:D A pleasure to view, thank you!
Ha I can't believe it, I just typed in 'Liam Clancy Bob Dylan' to see if there was any vids of them performing together and this came up, out of all dylan's thousands of songs this is my all time favourite. . . . such a coincidence :)
A true gem... I was privileged to meet Liam once - in a bar (naturally...) at An Rinn, near Dungarvan, the night before Dylan played the Fleadh Mor at Tramore on 4th July 1993. Jimmy Crowley was performing in the bar, and Liam was down from his home in Carrick On Suir to see Bob. I was hoping that Bob would ask Liam on stage, but no such luck. (He didn't ask Van the Man or Joan Baez on stage either, although they were both waiting in the wings!) He will be sadly missed...
Fantastic Paul. I never heard Liam sing that until now. I absolutely love this tune. Dylan released this tune in 1963 as a tribute to his former girlfriend. He borrowed some melody and lyrics from "Scarborough Fair" for aspect of the song. A fantastic tune and Liam Clancy does it such justice. Joe Cocker also does a great live version of this tune in his album "Mad dogs and Englishmen". I had the privelege of a personal performance form Liam before. He sang "The Dutchman" to me.
Indeed he did. He had no guitar on him. But he did close his eyes and did a little air guitar which was nice. A beautiful voice. May he rest in peace.
Liam Clancy sings with so much emotion. Awesome, awesome singing. Had a hat like that before.......Wonder here it is now?. Old friend Andy Revilla gave it to me..........Wonder where he is now? Makes me sad
Wonderful, thanks for posting this. As many times as I've heard Liam sing, I've never heard him do this one. I love the song and this is now definitely my favourite version of it.
One of the things, beyond raw talent, that has always made Liam Clancy so special, is his ability to immerse himself in the soul of a song, and give to us that magic. If you doubt me, look at Liam's face as he sings this. There may be "prettier" versions of this song out there, but I doubt you you'll find one with this special magic. Thank you for posting this!

Miss this guy. A lot. I cant believe hes gone. I cant believe it.
Truly missed, my Sir. You are truly missed.
And may your family find solace in the fact that we grieve with all of you. We miss him so much. We all miss him so much.
Sorry, my fellow humans. Sorry for our condition. I wish we could live forever. Especially Liam. Especially him.
Who better to live forever?
Who better?

My God, when he sings "she once was a true love of mine" and then shakes his head at 1:17, that just tears me up.
