@gotsda Well....(with regard to the whole question of God) it is interesting to note that the only deity ever really known to have gone on record explicitly revealing himself as "the one and only true God" is the self same deity worshiped by Jews, Christians, & Muslims. Consequently, the sacred writings of all other known religions (while still considered inspired writings by their followers) are regarded as being more philosophical in nature than as the literal "word of God".
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 I do not believe in other faiths which contradict the Bible because a person can not have conflicting beliefs, that would be irrational. However, if something which conflicts with the Bible can be sufficiently shown to be true, I am prepared to accept it. That's just never happened.
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 "how would YOU know it?" The only means which we have of understanding that which is beyond our limited knowledge is faith. The whole point of my argument was simply that possibilities exist beyond the observable, I was not suggesting that God exists exclusively in that reality. God is spirit yes, but like us, he also possesses a physical body which is corporeal in nature.
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 Ask yourself this question, if there were in fact truths beyond the observable, how would someone like you ever know it? Your narrow definitions of reality don't allow it. I'm afraid you're trapped in your own intellectual box of skepticism which only leads to doubt.
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 Mohamed never claimed to see God, only an angel, and if his writings didn't contradict the Biblical account I might believe him but I don't. I do believe he saw something, however, even satan can transform into an angel of light. Faith does not require someone to go against logic or reason. The very fact that you would ask such a question suggest that you know nothing of religion. P.S. The Holy Ghost tells me the testimony of the prophets is true.
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 Technically, you are correct, the laws of the universe are merely how the properties of matter behave in a given temporal state. What you need to understand is that matter comes in many forms, including dark matter, and in the form of dark energy. Gravity is suspended in open space not because there is no matter there, but because of the temporal state of matter in that place. I'm talking about the very fabric of existence here. Kapish?
@jimmydoolittle22 That is a very personal choice, however, I propose that through faith in God's revealed word we can begin to comprehend these things and even develop a love for God.
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 The solemn witness of the holy prophets who have actually seen God face to face is not something to be taken lightly. If you choose to disbelieve their report and place more faith on your foolish assumptions, be my guest, but stop going around claiming that you know anything because you simply don't. P.S.Without any stance on evolution your entire position is even more ridiculous.
@101mythbuster Why do believe that they've actually seen god? Do you believe muslims who say they've seen god? And yet again, looking at facts does not require faith, believing that an invisible god that exists outside of the "natural world" does. I never spoke of my stance on evolution. I'm pointing out that atheism is simply the lack of belief in a god. You christians bring up evolution and abiogenesis, because you can't prove god, so you slander the work of people in the field.
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 The natural laws of the universe are not really observable, only their effect on the physical world is. Consequently, if even the known laws of our universe are unobservable, how can you affirm that any laws which may not have a visible effect on the physical world do not exist? The law of gravity, for instance, is temporally suspended in open space. There are many more examples such as this.
@101mythbuster The laws of the universe are just the way things happen, they are just called laws. If everything happens the same way always, that's just how it is. A law cannot be unobservable, or it's not a law at all. And the law of gravity is not suspended in open space, there is just no matter there. If you looked at this from a neutral standpoint, you might see how wacky your argument is.
@MrAgelis Religious people think they believe in the same god? Where'd you get that idea? Different religions have different beliefs. I for one do not believe in the supernatural. However, something isn't supernatural simply because it exists outside the confines of the observable universe. If the observable laws of nature exist strictly under temporal conditions, logic dictates that they are governed by yet a higher set of laws which are not observable in our present temporal sphere.
@101mythbuster do we agree that something that "exists outside the confines of the observable universe" is something we don't know anything about and especially don't worship?
@101mythbuster How can something exist outside the confines of the observable universe? That's an assumption. Anything from that point on is just reinforcing your beliefs, and basically building an imaginary place for your imaginary god to exist. You have to demonstrate that this place exists.
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 "Believing that the world is what it is can't be a delusion." You should really think about what you just said, this statement is meaningless and only reinforces my argument of your self-delusion.
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 You're only reiterating the point I've been already making. People see only what their fundamental assumptions allow them to see. You interpret the evidence on the premise (and very closed minded assumption) that the observable universe is all there is, whereas, I believe in the scriptures not because I presuppose they are true, but because my own personal experience and view of the universe confirms that they are. Like it or not, both theists and atheists rely on belief.
@101mythbuster Your view of the universe is based on the presupposition that your bible is true. And your personal experiences are the same. Atheists don't rely on faith. You really don't get that? Atheists don't believe in a god. That requires no faith. An atheist doesn't even need to have a stance on evolution, because that's a different subject. Not believing in a religious claim has nothing to do with delusion, it's quite the opposite, and funny that you have it mixed up.
@daverowbotham On a side note, just because you refuse to acknowledge the evidence for God due to your preconceived bias, doesn't mean its not there. Unfortunately, human perception is plagued with ambiguity. You view the evidence as pointing to natural processes being responsible for all of organized existence, I view the same evidences as simply indicating that God uses natural means to create. If you think about it, the idea the universe auto-created it self is really farfetched.
@101mythbuster You're doing what a lot of theists have been doing lately. You're reversing arguments formed by atheists, to try and make them out to be the delusional ones. You have a pre-conceived idea that god exists, so everything you say against atheists is under the premises written in your holy book. "The natural" world is all we know. To interpret the natural world through a holy book is to presuppose the holy book to be true. To interpret the natural world as natural(cont.
@101mythbuster is much more logical. If you presuppose that everything we know is all a dream, I think it's called solipsism, then your mind would see it to be true and connect all the dots and ignore the red flags. Believing that the world is what it is can't be a delusion. Think about that for a minute.
@PACKyourSHITfolks420 I would like to add to that that discussing god makes no sense if you have no clear ideas about what could be considered natural or supernatural. Religious people like to believe that they believe in the same god, but if you ask them individually they come up with completely inconsistent and diverse definitions and they have no idea where to draw the line between the natural and the supernatural.
@101mythbuster "I view the same evidences as simply indicating that God uses natural means to create." That's how you interpret things to suit your beliefs in a god.
@daverowbotham Thanks for making my point with that whole elf on your shoulder analogy. Maybe when atheists stop making God out to be some easily defeated fictional character they will be able to form a valid argument.
Believing in God is not irrational, everyone has his own rationale for what he believes. Atheists are not anymore rational than theist, they just work under a different premise and what they accept as being true. Reason alone cannot arrive at truth if our facts are fundamentally false. That said, I find the rationale of most atheists relies upon very superficial and straw man perceptions of God and religion, consequently, their conviction boils down to self-delusion.
@101mythbuster I'm afraid that's not true. Atheism is simply the lack of belief in any gods becuase there is no evidence that gods exist. There is nothing superficial about that whatsoever. If I told you I had an elf sat on my shoulder, you would quite rightly refuse to beleive me until I presented you with evidence.
some callers are just way too retarded to hope something from them, I mean, sometimes, like in ths video, I dont think the person is a the same level as the hosts, she doesn´t have the education or knowledge to , not for a second does she understands science, it´s an alien concept for her.
"Where did you get that from...the internet?" No, it's called a "thought" of my own. I actually go around thinking all day and figuring stuff out as best I can, "depending on myself" to be able to think. Because you are what happens when you incapable of thinking for yourself. Un bloody believable, this person.
so sad that almost any religious nut always say that they depend on god's help... they sound like they are very lonely people... when some1 asks me that... I say: my family and my friends... if you say god is the only one that helps you.....then yes! you are a very lonely person... :(
Where the hell was that sentence going? Was she going to make excuses for why she doesn't care for truth, only her feelings? 'As a christian I don't have to care, or investigate, or think about stuff...the bible says so therefore it must be true...herp de dur de derp'
well im amazed by you because i honsestly couldnt go through a day following christian dogma i am not a bad person but i honsestly commit what your bible would call a sin... I see a woman and i think woah... and that is committing adultery in my heart ... I often disrespect my father, it may just be a wrong word but it is still punishable by death and one thing that matt has touched upon many times... you may say this is old testament bullshit but your God is never changing therefore itsrelevant
@ExigentZero I hear you. I just happened to be listening to this with earbuds at a fast food restaurant. At the moment I'm fighting the urge to scream, half the reason is because of this clueless caller, the other half is all this damned static!
Wait.... oh my god... the Bible HAS been around for many years... I've never thought about it that way before. I'm no longer an atheist!! Goodbye everybody, I'm saved!
@Stickmaleboy if you cant tell, they are constantly fighting back the urge to throw out curses and insults. They also have broke down and have thrown out those things to callers. It is one of the hardest things to do as a atheist is not to be enraged by the ignorant things religious people say. I fight the urge every day, these hosts of the show have one of the hardest jobs in the world, trying to convince a brainwashed person that what they believe in has no bases of fact.
@Stickmaleboy Callers like this one are common, and they are a gift to the show, if you think about it. Matt and Tracie hold little hope that they might persuade the caller. However, their argumentation, and the apparent irrationality of the caller, may be persuasive to an intelligent theist who is watching.
What evidence do we have that the Bible is not true? The law of non-contradiction. Any book which makes contradictory statements cannot be true. Some of its statement may be true, but the book as a whole cannot be true. The Bible makes many contradictory statements, therefore, though some of its statements can be, and are, true, the Bible as a whole cannot be true.
I am a Christian and this is where it gets all mixed up. We cannpot p[rove anything whether the bible being true or theexistance of God-faith is what prevents that
@daveme7 prevents you from proving? or having to prove it?? faith is the deliberate suspension of questioning, reasoning, logic, thinking....have your pic. it is not a virtue, but you've been told otherwise...we know
What is she depending on God for? What is it that God supposedly does for her? Does he keep the criminals away? Does he prevent her from getting sick? There are people who probably have it a million times worse than this woman, but she's special so God decides to look after her and ignore all the people that actually need help and have no one to depend on.
@Hungryturtlez Haven't you ever heard the expression "God protects fools and children"?..Well, sadly, he doesn't always protect children. ;-) (DISCLAIMER: the preceding was meant as humor, and not a profession of belief).
i have a comment....or rather a request of a kind. could you guy's stop asking stupid ppl with no real arguements legitimate questions. i was tought never to argue with an idiot. i clicked on the vid in hopes of an intelligent dabate about the matter of religion. not you guys explaining simple life to a stubborn misbehaved child
@georgio210 They debate whomever calls in. They don't get to pick their callers according to "intelligence". If you know intelligent theists, petition them to call - or if you are one, call in yourself.
@YaleBreaker that i know. its just that they have so many good video's and topics to speak of but instead they spend their time explaining crap to someone who can't tell their hand from their foot. thats what i meant...and i would call in myself with questions but no i'm not a theist...thanks
@georgio210 These clips with this type of call are mostly targeted at Christians, people that haven't been exposed to arguments, and atheists that just like to laugh. They aren't really for people that have actually graduated beyond that or for atheists that don't really have a sense of humor about this stuff.
I try to mix it up, but, for the most part, these clips get more viewers and attention. People just like to laugh and that's a good thing.
''What would make you think the bible isn't true''.
That is probably one of the most stupid things you could say. You can't say something is true because there is no evidence to say it isn't true. THINGS DON'T WORK THAT WAY. That is like me saying there is a fire breathing dragon on mars. There is no evidence suggesting it isn't true but that does not make it true.
@Galaxies327 You've seen the dragon too? Thank you, thank you, thank you! One second, I'm going to get my ex-wife and kids here to show them I'm not crazy and we can be a family again!
@EatMAndSml Mind you, remember that the caller has probably NEVER in her life spoken to ANYONE who doesn't believe in God let alone has given good reasons why not. For her it is shattering.
@ritchloui I used to try to be understanding of these people like you but no more. These people destroy lives. This woman is a clear example of wanted ignorance and THAT'S what feeds their hate of others. You're saying that it's possible she only has religious people to talk to but here she is talking DOWN to the the very people you just said she doesn't have to talk. What do you think about her statement towards the end "I'm just amazed by you guys."? That statement gave her away.
@EatMAndSml I think the caller was unusual in that she didn't jump straight into the 'well, you are all just going to go to hell' number. That was what I found remarkable, she just kept struggling with her astonishment, confusion and desperate attempt to make sense of such a different way of seeing things. I'm not saying she will change her mind any time soon, if ever, but she wasn't vicious when her worldview was confronted.
@ritchloui Ok, I just listened to the call uncut on the full episode, the call starts at 52:10. I'm standing by what I said, she pisses me off. :) Toodles.
@village1diot if you're having problems with the audio from their DVD downloads on the AE site, maybe you could download the audio in mp3 format and line it up? I usually download each episode in mp3 and the audio quality is always crystal clearrr :)
@MistahBlonde3 Man, that is a great idea. I can't believe I have never thought of that. It just might work. I'll give it a try the next time I have a video with messed up audio.
Also, and this goes to everyone, if you have suggestions please PM me. I will miss 99% of the messages in the comments sections. I just got lucky to catch this one as I was reading another comment.
@village1diot That's a very good point. Ignorance should be defeated with knowledge, not force. To convert one to atheism you must teach them how to be a skeptic and think on their own
What's sad is that there are supposed intelligent people who still believe in religious superstition, or superstition of any kind. What's even sadder is that I know people just like her who wake up and go thru the day, only bcuz they think a ghost-god is holding their hand thru every step of the way. How is that any different than using a drug every morning to make it thru the day?
About 1.4 billion out of the 7 billion people on earth use the bible for their beliefs. That's not even 1 out of three. I don't know what's more incredible: how ignorant Christians are about their own religion or how ignorant they are about other religions.
@Rabredux Well in the bible they're encouraged to be sheep, as God apparently claims that he's the shepherd to his sheep, and the goats will not follow. The goats are associated with Satanism, but it's just rebuking people that didn't follow the rest of these "sheep". Hope that makes sense. :)
Being interrupted is one of my biggest pet peeves. Being interrupted while answering a question from the same person who is then interrupting me is not only a pet-peeve, it is a key to unleash a furious rage. If someone asks you a question & then cuts you off to ask another, that means they really dont care about your answer. They dont care about what you have to say. They want to talk AT you, not WITH you. This woman shouldve been hung up on. For those that say Matt has little patience-FUCK YOU
@88Keyz101 "If someone asks you a question & then cuts you off to ask another, that means they really don't care about your answer. They don't care about what you have to say. They want to talk AT you, not WITH you."
@kapwns Its because they cannot wrap their minds around the fact that the biggest aspect of their life, we find it a waste of time. They cannot separate us thinking that to thinking their lives have been a waste of time instead of simply their beliefs are.
It amazes me that non-believers know more about religion then believers. Most Christians don’t know anything about the history of their religion. They don’t know that Christmas is a Pagan holiday. There is no evidence that Jesus was born on the 25th. There’s no reliable evidence that a figure named Jesus even existed. They simply don’t care because this is what they were taught. Indoctrination is deeply entrenched in the minds of the religious.
It's a frustration talking to theists. They won't ever shut up and let you make a point, or they'll keep jumping around the questions and never answer.
It's amazing how christians auto trigger this response whenever asked for a reason of their belief. She didn't intend to ask this. She asks it, triggered by their question. And she doesn't care for the answer either. She can't answer it and know she can't.
They should go back to that question until she honestly says she has no answer. Even if it means declaring "i have no evidence for God's nonexistence, i take it on faith" for the sake of argument.
@stuchly1 That reminds me of the quote by Samuel Butler : "It was very good of God to let Carlyle and Mrs. Carlyle marry one another and so make only two people miserable instead of four"
(Given that this is an Atheist Experience video, I should note that I'm making a point about marriage not God. God just happens to be part of the quote.)
Not only does this caller not TAKE ONE SECOND to devote to the question "what good reason do you have to think that the bible is even REMOTELY TRUE?" But she interrupts well thought responses to her interruptive questions with THOUGHTLESS MUMBLING. She interrupts Matt with "Well, well, well, you, well, you, well...."
Again, our society is a nightmare, and these people ask me "why do YOU CARE what I believe? I'm not hurting ANYONE."
"Well ANYWAYS, I was WRONG about the reliance on the Bible, let's just continue as if I WERE RIGHT." Haha. See what happens when the public doesn't generally have intellectual discussions and debates?
"Intellectualism" is actually "frowned upon" by many in our country, and is used as an insult almost!
Psalm 14.1-3 - The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good. The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God. They have all turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is none who does good, no, not one.
@TheRacer909 Evolution is backed up by BOTH observation in today's world, and the fossil record. Despite what you may think, there are plenty of transitional fossils in the world. I even have one sitting on my shelf of what's called a "Devil's Toenail", ironically, evolving from a single valve mollusk to a dual valve. I suggest that you do a little bit of research on topics before you speak against them. And i would also ask that you back your claim that science points to "creation"
I do not depend on God to get through the day. I depend on humans. Humans who cultivated and harvested crops and herded cattle and other domesticated animals. Humans who transported them to various places closer to me. Humans who maintain society, by upholding the law, maintaining infrastructure, and picturing and aiming for a better world. These are some of the people who I depend on, and I can only hope I contribute to a better world so people depend on me in the same way.

@101mythbuster I'm afraid that's not true. Atheism is simply the lack of belief in any gods becuase there is no evidence that gods exist. There is nothing superficial about that whatsoever. If I told you I had an elf sat on my shoulder, you would quite rightly refuse to beleive me until I presented you with evidence.

smithcas86 1 month ago
@Stickmaleboy if you cant tell, they are constantly fighting back the urge to throw out curses and insults. They also have broke down and have thrown out those things to callers. It is one of the hardest things to do as a atheist is not to be enraged by the ignorant things religious people say. I fight the urge every day, these hosts of the show have one of the hardest jobs in the world, trying to convince a brainwashed person that what they believe in has no bases of fact.

eajoseph217 2 weeks ago
@Stickmaleboy Callers like this one are common, and they are a gift to the show, if you think about it. Matt and Tracie hold little hope that they might persuade the caller. However, their argumentation, and the apparent irrationality of the caller, may be persuasive to an intelligent theist who is watching.
cmustard599 2 weeks ago
What evidence do we have that the Bible is not true? The law of non-contradiction. Any book which makes contradictory statements cannot be true. Some of its statement may be true, but the book as a whole cannot be true. The Bible makes many contradictory statements, therefore, though some of its statements can be, and are, true, the Bible as a whole cannot be true.

@georgio210 These clips with this type of call are mostly targeted at Christians, people that haven't been exposed to arguments, and atheists that just like to laugh.
