Australia should be spending most of its defense budget on her Navy. Reason being is that we're completely surrounded by water, and if there is any threat (which I highly doubt) then defense would nearly entirely revolve around the Navy. I came to this conclusion after reading J.F.C. Fuller's works on military history, and the only reason Britain was never invaded and has been so successful in war, is because of the dominance of the seas (particularly the west of English Channel).

The US Navy and USMC were the decisive factors in winning the Pacific Campaign of WW2, yet that lesson has not shaped Australian defence policy.
