  • There is an oil pressure controlled switch that the activates the VTEC and opens the secondary intake valves at 3500 to 3600 RPM.. It's no big thing to replace and will fix the problem.. I'm a fucking idiot and know that.. Sure says a lot about the people that dealerships hire to service what they sell.. I've had a Fit since 2006 and it has never been into a dealership for anything....

  • Your engine is not getting enough fuel. Therefore I believe you need a new fuel pump.

  • Was the automatic ... there was actually several things that can cause the vtec not to kick in and according to the dealership they replaced the oil pressure sensor and the coils ... sooooo ... hard to tell what was causing the issue ... just glad I don't have the vehicle and it is not my problem any more 8)

  • Is this manual or automatic?

  • could be low oil preasure too, if its the 1.5 vtec model anyway, the low oil preasure would cause vtec no to kick in and it usually kicks around that rpm

  • I just went through this with a 2010 Fit, they said it was the coils. Lets see if it runs fine now. I think I'm going to trade it in actually.

  • @oxysean ... No it was not 8( ... I have a Subaru Legacy with a CVT and absolutely love it 8)

  • I have a 08 with 40,000 miles and no issues what so ever, only oil changes and gas. Very relaible vehicle...

  • @arturo91669 .... Not really a complaint per say on the vehicles, but how Honda handled the situation ... that was my 5th Honda and the only one to ever have an issue ... glad you have not had the issue! 8)

  • dude its your vtec oil pressure switch $80 right on top of motor

  • @bishop5372 ... It was replaced on the second of 4 repair attempts ... maybe they replaced it with a bad one, I don't know ... Honda had to buy it back, so it is difficult to tell ... thanks though, maybe it will help someone that may have the same issue and is not within their warranty 8)

  • We have a similar problem along with others. It's the same model same year, but with roughly 146,000kms on it. It will rev up to 5000rpms at times going at around 50-60 km/h, the engine light will blink but not stay on. There are times when it will have no power, going 20km/h (roughly 2500rpm) then suddenly take off.

It also gets stuck shifting in and out of high gears as well as shifting from drive, to neutral or drive to park. We've taken it in many times to have it repaired but no codes show.

  • @KathrynNimmo .... Sounds like the same issues that I was having ... maybe look over some of the comments people made and see if it helps 8( ... I hope you get it fixed!

  • I am not sold on tiny cars. Aveos, Fits, and Fiestas. What you save in gas, you will pay for in repairs IMHO. Long live V8s. How often do econoboxes go 200K or more?

  • @MrTRose69 all the time, civics's easily go 300k, and ive seen many with 400K

it's because there built in japan where workers commit seppku if they do bad, as opposed to America or Mexico where they smoke crack and don't give a shit. THAT is the bigger difference. not the size of the car dude.

  • @sausagenmuff ... I would have to agree that it seems that Japanese designed vehicles tend to have less issues ... my complaint was with the corporation more so than the quality of the vehicle ... They had no loyalty to me as a customer when I had been loyal to them for years and years.

  • @sneyepr yeah sucks, I've heard that a few time, after warranty is gone. :( thing i you think thats bad. my family only buys honda (me acura) and have the occaional problem. my GF's family drives German engineered Volkswagens. great driving cars but WOW lots of problems. bad starting in the winter, fuse always blowing random problems and mechanical failures. you can REALLY notice the difference, glad i have a honda

  • is this only for the 08 models?

  • @auomauom I am not sure if it is only with the 08 or not 8(

  • I fixed the problem on the fit bought some aftermarket coil packs from this site got it in 3 days and now my car runs fine again... honda does shit like that my friend had a prelude one time and he brought it to them to fix the problem with the check engine light he paid them 400 to change the altenator thats what they told him to change but problem was still there.. honda dealers are BS man. don't get me wrong honda is good cars. dealers just suck balls y0.

  • @tomagotchii ... I have to agree with you there ... the dealers and corporation seem to not care about the customer once the vehicle is sold ... if they only realized that I was going to spend probably another 300k through my lifetime for new vehicles, but not now 8(

  • I got a 2008 honda fit auto and does the same thing at 4,000 my car is at 64,000 right now but it started at 54,000 miles I love honda but honestly they lost my business... i'm going with nissan from now on my girl has a nissan rouge and its wonderful 43,000 now and no problems yet. my fit, breaks went out at 20,000 miles, stutter at 54,000, light issue, this car just sucks sorry that honda didn't fix your car and still under warrenty thats totally BULLSHIT...!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tomagotchii I'm going through the same problem as you right now. It's the coil packs. It seems every person with a Fit has this problem around 50,000 miles. It's really pathetic. I'm never buying a honda again. Because I didn't know it was the coil packs and took it to the dealer for them to diagnose the wrong thing and charge me 500 dollars for replacing something that was working fine. I'm replacing the coil packs myself as soon as i get the money. They run about 60 dollars a piece.

  • @tomagotchii ... yes it was ... but, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to wait them out and be patient through the court process ... most people depend on one vehicle and cannot 8(

  • So did the dealer tell you that it was going into limp home mode?

  • @wongmylesa Nope ... they never actually explained it to me ... all my information about the problem came from personal investigation.

  • @sneyepr Hmm, Thats bullshit. And i take it that you got it fixed?

  • @wongmylesa ... it was never fixed ... I took Honda to court and they ended up buying it back and paying for my attorney 8)

  • I'm glad you took action for the well being of yourself and your family. Definitely not safe.

  • that looked like a MAF related problem... but glad you did what you had to do. I don't understand why they didn't just fix it for you if it was under warranty.

  • @xAndrewStrifex

They had no problem attempting to fix the issue over and over again ... I just couldn't afford for something to happen to my family because it kept re-occurring and Honda would not accept that they couldn't fix it and exchange the vehicle in order to keep my family and I safe ... a dollar was worth more to them than my family's safety unfortunately for them.

  • Well, not sure if the cars of the 60s and 70s were much better, but they used to be a lot easier to repair :)

  • every now and then a vehicle is going to come out with issues, the way that the company treated me not only cost them thousands of dollars with this car, it also costs them hundreds of thousands with future business from me and everyone that rode or drove my car ... yes, I was giving test drives 8)

  • @sneyepr Did you have to file a Lawsuit, or did you have to go through arbitration with the BBB. Im working on honda replacing my 2010 honda Accord, for problems they cant fix and its been in the shop over 11 times for the same issue. I asked honda to replace the car already and they said no. So, i feel im also left with no choice but to file. I was just wondering if you went through the BBB or filed a actual lawsuit.

  • @josephndy Sorry, I have not checked on here in awhile ... I bought the vehicle in VA and according to VA's Lemon Law, I could choose which route I wanted to take ... I choose to file a lawsuit as arbitration is a complete waste of time according to several close friends and Honda had already shown me that they were not willing to do the right thing. It was an actual lawsuit filed through the State of VA,

  • For everyone's information, filed lawsuit and Honda settled at the last second ... paid off my vehicle, paid my lawyer and paid me for my inconvenience ... Their lawyers are almost as incompetent as their managers are btw ..

  • Fact of the matter is that Honda refused to stand behind their product even after I gave them a choice at the start to just replace it ... they should have taken me up on the offer, but instead they were rude and insulting ... it would have saved them thousands of dollars ... on top of that, this was my 5th Honda ... guess what? They are never getting another penny from me ....

  • @Natalie .... 14K was NOT reasonable ... according to VA Law the amount of mileage that is taken off is from when you purchase the car until the first problem ... which for me was 400 miles ... so, yea it was full value ...

  • Check your air inlet tube between the air filter and the throttle body. It may be cracked and let air in which is not accounted by the air massflow sensor. The crack open when you reach certains RPM.

  • In Brazil this car costs in US dolars: 27.000, considering that a regular worker earns USD 300,00 per month here...

  • hey man watch out also for the Transmission of the hondas mostly of the people have complaint that is to weak. and easy to break

  • If replacement of this switch have not cured the problem, the switch/solenoid unit must be removed and filter screen behind it should be inspected for possible contamination by fine metal shavings left after machining the rocker arm

  • those who "repaired" the harness may carelessly damage connectors or bent the pins inside. I've seen this two times.

Just because I am driving the 07 fit I would look in some repair data and look for possible "weak" places. I remember at least one case similar to yours where replacement of the switch alone cured the problem [also 08 Fit, in NY @10000mi].

  • Yes, it does and was supposed to have been replaced along with the wiring harness. The first time in they said that it needed an oil change even though the oil life status stated 20% and the manual said to change at 10%. This was during a trip and it did it again later that day. I took it to a different dealer and they said that "I" had ovrfilled the oil and that is why it was doing it. Idiots!

  • My long term customer went to Toyota of Cerritos for timing belt change.

He has to go back 2 times because the "expert" was not able to set the timing correctly.

In addition I found the chain wrench marks on the crank pulley, a big no-no for this particular pulley design.

I can speculate that the upper pressure switch is the electrical solenoid that controls variable valve timing, by changing direction the oil flows.

  • What is the code on the scanner??

Is the valve timing solenoid working right?

I hate dealers; they only can milk the customers. Wishing you best of luck and success!!!!

  • I can't remember what the code was off hand now, something in regard to upper oil pressure switch ... they tried to milk me coming there (2 hr drive) over and over again ... 5 attempts to fix and they expected me to either keep taking days off work and getting someone to follow me done to the dealer or to trade in the car (they said they would only give me 14K for the car)...

  • I told them that I was not going to keep going back and forth down there and that I should get the full purchase price for the vehicle since it was less than 6 months old at the time ... needless to say, I am still waiting on it to get to court ... the lawsuit was filed several months ago and it can take a very long time before it makes it to court.

  • @sneyepr You're not going to get full price on your vehicle through the VA lemon law. You only get a full refund minus your use of the vehicle. Considering that it is a late model and it has 11k miles on it you're looking at at least $1000 if not more off the sticker price. I would suggest if you are still dealing with this issue to ask for a replacement and then if you still don't want to give it another shot sell or trade it in for the car you want.

  • @sneyepr 14k is reasonable considering the vehicle is used. It depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot. Virginia assessed my 2010 Fit Sport at less then a week old at 14800 when I paid $15390 new with only 19 miles on it. Thats the depreciation hit I took just driving it off the lot.

  • What check engine code is it giving? I would be VERY persistent with a dealership manager, and tell them "Look Bob, I paid top dollar for a brand new high quality car, and that's what I am going to drive off of this lot today with. I'm not going to pay extra for having gotten a lemon. You and I both know you can put me in a new car, and send this back to Honda and at least break even. So lets go look at what you have on the lot that I will be driving home in tonight." Don't give in to crap.

  • Thanks... Since they were not willing to work with me on the issue, which would have saved Honda a good bit of cash, I filed a law suit in accordance with the VA Lemon Law (vehicle bought in VA) ... they are going to have to pay additional cash now to settle the issue, will have to scrap the vehicle and have lost a long time Honda customer forever. Shopping for a manufacturer now for my next 4 cars and 20 years of loyalty!

  • limp home mode. Go to the dealer should be under warranty

  • I guess you didn't read the description ... I have taken it to a Honda Dealer 5 different times. Yes, it is going to limp mode, but they have not been able to fix it and obviously don't care. I have filed a law suit against Honda and will keep those who emailed updated ... thanks.

  • whoops sorry. Forgot about that. Well hopefully you get it fixed good luck

  • fuel system? or the computer is just being retarded and puts a limit. or the knocking? either way investigate what happend and gl on your lawsuit.

  • Yea ... that is the problem ... It could be any one of those things (or more) and they were not able to ever figure it out. Thank you for the gl ... everything has been filed and it is just a waiting game now.
