I'm fine with the Pistols, but Sid's status in the band is way overrated. Glen Matlock was the Pistol's bassist plain and simple. Sid was more about destroying himself than anything else, didn't even make it past 21. He's just a punk rock poster boy and the guy's life is something to be pitied not looked up to.

You're all wrong. The Stooges and MC5 where garage rock and the protagonist to punk rock. The Ramones who were influenced by the Stooges, New York Dolls, and various garage bands created the punk rock sound which came out of a repetitive 4 to the flour percussion and Johnny's wall of sound down stroke style of guitar play.

It was great to see this vid. I was at this show in '77, I believe it was the first time the Dead Boys played in LA. This was in the very early days of punk when there was a lot of spitting. I remember Stiv hawking up and letting fly about twenty feet and Cheetah catching it in his mouth - now that's punk! This was also before slamming or mosh pits, at most, heavy pogoing. Great energy, and Stiv was a total wild man, in the vein of his hero Iggy.

Johnny Rotten truly was a genius of rock. Now, where The Ramones started the sound of punk, Sex Pistols really riled up the attitude. Johnny was against everything punk went into, the whole "I can be a dick to anyone and be cool because I'm a punk" movement.

Basically, The Sex Pistols started the movement that led to the Dead Boys thrashing America.

With all of that said, I prefer Stiv and Cheetah to Johnny and Steve musically. Just me though. Its all good.

I remember being a teenager in the '90s, a punker had to have a green flight jacket adorned with badges, a Misfits T-shirt, and so many holes on their Doc Martin steel toe boots.
