  • Nobody, but nobody, could wear a low slung holster better than Jock Mahoney, comin' or goin' !!!! He was a big man with a "V" shape in "Money, Women, and Guns"...He was my mom's favorite star...(except for the voice of Wild Bill Elliott).

  • im trying to put together a modernized type of rig for a saa, im thinking a gi pistol belt and either a folding ammo pouch or ammo sliders but im not sure ,anybody got any ideas?

  • I'm at a double disadvantage- I use standard hirider style (even though i made them to fit my guns) and shoot either a pair of .44cal. 1851navy sheriffs 5 1/2" or 1849pockets or any combo of the four. I am quick, but I could never be as quick as the modern style shooters. Still, I like the realism of my rigs for post civil war era and am happy enough with my quickness and accuracy :)

PS: Exploding holsters are no fun...

  • whaT THE METAL PLATE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE LAst holster for?

  • its so if the gun goes of to early the plate directs the blast of the blank away from your leg

  • @blankthree THAT'S THERE JUST IN CASE A BULLET SHOT OUT OF YOUR GUN IT WOULD HIT THE METAL AND GO TO THE SIDE AND NOT ON YOUR FOOT

  • @blankthree It is a "real fast" draw holster probably designed by Bob Munden or Joe Bowman....just in case you fired before getting the gun out. Those two men (and I have seen Joe Bowman do it) could draw and fire three shots so fast it sounded like one shot.... Yes I was there when three were loaded on the left side, and checked the primers before and after the shots. I have had a Single Action Colt ever since I was 21 and knew what to look for. Today I am 80.

  • thats a great lookin leather holster.

  • Was the "real western holster" a Mexican Double Loop holster?

  • Yes, or a "slim jim" model, named "california pattern" too. you can get just one loop in your holster...The "Buscadero" is a model invented by hollywood in the 30' just for the style in the movies ... But try to ride a horse whith it ... And never forget, often the cowboys had no money to have to pay a holster, often, they were just put the gun in the belt ...

  • Thanks for the info. I make gunleather, but don't have anything to do with fastdraw, so I never had a chance to learn about it. Very informative.

  • You should think about watching the haunted saloon video titled "Fast Draw Gun"
