i just started to play with the mydmx program. i cant seem to figure out how to get another DMX universe to come up on the setup page. im doing this for my band and i want another universe to be another song setup. please help.
I need some help. I am using my DMX and i am trying to figure out the dip swith thing but how do i know what channel to start the second light on. My first is the chauvet o-beast and my second is the chauvet vue 2.1. were do i start the second
i just got a shinp DL-55c and trying to do the thing that looks really cool that every laser does but dont no how to do it :(. sorry im not they help full but its my first laser and yeah. can you help me man?
I've got a DMX Operator II from American DJ i been trying to figure out for years, and Trying to get working with a Martin Mini Mac... No luck. I'm thinking of moving to computer based control software, what besides MyDMX do you recommend there?
I believe you didnt explain how to progam the lights that didnt have the dip switches but rather the LED DMX address. I would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me on that.
@isaacstrat Did you get an answer on this question....I have Venue Thinpar 64 lights without the dip switches....they have the LED DMX address....having trouble getting lights to respond to my Chavet Obey 40....any help would be appreciated
hey brian geat job as always for being so informative.... i ahve a question for u... how do u feel about using mydmx with no sound input as compared to the show designer dmx controller? look forward to your response
It really depends on your needs, wants, and budget. MyDMX is a basic platform for thoes who want a simple computer based DMX sollution. If you want something with more options and the budget allows it, then yeah go with it
I'm sure you know why the channel numbers go like that and why they go like this, but for those who wonder, just check out some really basic binary-maths and it will be instantly clear for you. :)
Thanks for brian, I've watched quite a lot of your videos, keep up the good work.
I recently bought 2 Chauvet Oceanas. They are DMX Operatable. This video helped me a lot, I will not be doing DMX until I can afford the controller and the cables and some more lights but It really helped a lot.
I have one question. When I set up my lights I now set them up on 2 tripods, which at some times could be very far apart. (in example 50 feet away). I do not think that would look to well to have a cord in mid air across a stage for a show. is there anyway to have a wireless signal sent?
Yes they use them in travailing theater all the time but they tend to be a little pricey for the average Mobile DJ. Chauvet makes one called the "Chauvet wireless DMX Transmitter/receiver" but it costs around 180 Bucks for one and you need a set of two to make it work. So yes, it can be done, but it's very expensive.
No problem. If you use good DMX cable you can make a run of around 500 feet from controller to the last instrument to be controlled. If you take your dmx and run it to a wall and then around to the other truss you should have no problems getting signal to pass and you don't have to worry about people tripping on cable running across the middle of the room and it costs less than the wireless.
Can you do a video showing how you create an actual show using things such as banks, scenes etc. I've got a ton of DMX lights (like a lot of us do) but I haven't had the interest in going DMX because of my lack of understanding in how shows are created.
Very good video bro. Just a note to everyone...if you are a linking fixtures such as the Chauvet ledrain64 ( a bunch of them) REMEMBER...the myDMX software will tell you what switches to use but remember in order to ACTIVATE DMX mode on some lights...switch 10 must also be on.
That controller has selector buttons that are in incraments of 16 so #1 is 1-16, #2 is 17-32, #3 33-49. The reason its like that is for ease of programming
Brian could you post a little video of all your lightning gear and how you use those in your lightshow or do you use them in stand alone? Nice video anyway but i cant use it because i have sunlite dmx on my pc :D
hmm I don't know how that would work. Seems you would need some kind of Dongle to go between a USB port & a DMX cable AND a program to work with the Dongle.
a usb2dmx cable is basically a usb interface like the my dmx box in one cable
it should have come with a driver cd so install that 1st if not search the make in google and you should find the drivers after that download a universal dmx program like freestyler as only american dj products will work with american dj software ie my dmx. after you have downloaded a program such as freestyler you can select your dmx cable type in settings. "djchrisepa" has some videos on freestyler check them out.
Check out the Chauvet Obey 10 DMX controller. Other than an 8 fixture limitation, do you notice any drawbacks as compared gto the Elation DMX Operator 192? I love that it's only 2 rack spaces.

What a complete set of nonsense!
Re-do your homework.
Google for "doug fleanor youtube" or "artistic licence" for example.
However if you're happy with this explanation please pretend you'd never read this....

Do you have to have a DMX control board to work the lights with the software, or can the lights go right into the box, into your computer?

seems to me that the dip switches are like binary is that true or just a coincidence??
