yes GTx 580 is considered faster bcoz having Frames rates near as high as 5970 plus it has newer tech, as better tessellation performance, i love AMD but i have to say GTX580 is one of the top tier cards on the market, still as a i said before, 6990 is still not out, but imagine a 2009 video card compiting vs the newest 2011 card, plus 6990 is said to be ahead to 5970 in terms of performance

Over here the 5970 cost between Australian $800-$1300 depending on the versions of card where the 5870 cost $514 it is sure a hell lot of money for a video card. Lucky you if you can afford the 5970 as i ran out of money building my gaming machine.

this card is actually shit, its meant for Direct X 11 games ATI fanboys, wake up! have all of you ever seen how badly this card microstutters in Metro 2033 and Dirt 2? it doesn't just happen in benchmarks and the Unigine Heaven 2.0 tessellation tests

clearly this overhyped HD5970 video card isn't fit for its purpose, which is where the Nvidia 400 series come in, if you're a true gamer and you want good quality DX11 support go for Nvidia, otherwise stick with your previous gen DX10/9 cards.

@TMNoob3 sorry man but this card has only 1 crossfire output so you can only connect 1 more hd 5970 and thats it. but two 5870 in crossfire will perform a little bit better than the 5970 and at the same price. anyway very few people would spend 1200 dollars on a pair of hd 5970. also each card is rated 294w so you would need a 1500w power supply to run this card in crossfire because the processor and motherboard/RAM would have to be just as extreme to run this beast.
