  • If this final episode does not break your heart, you have none.

  • Christ, I still get goosebumps when I see this. It's really sad that so many people will never appreciate B5 for its magic, it's pioneering arc-based storytelling, and amazing character development, because the CG is a bit dodgy compared to what we're used to, or the dialog is a bit clunky, or some of the guest stars just can't act. Sure this show had its flaws, but it was in a lot of ways what Sci-Fi ought to be, which was telling the story of the human condition in a far away place.

  • Babylon 5 is not corny or anything but brilliant and I think it is above most peoples ability to understand it, it is the best SF show PERIOD!!

  • Seen the interview with JMS, and he said to Christopher Franke for the finale Chris break my heart. Combine Christopher Franke's music with the imagery JMS made in the end....I get choked up every time I hear that music. Don't want to sound morbid, but I want this music played at my funeral when I die.

  • Can I get this music somewhere?

  • @michaelhviper Yes you can, there were singles released with music from certain episodes, this one included.

I dont know if you can still buy them but there are places where it is archived, and i think there are a couple of torrents floating around as well if you are good with those.

  • noooooooooooooooooo! THIS MUSIC. CANNOT LISTEN WITHOUT TEARS.

  • season 5 vas bad

  • This music always brings tears in my eyes!

  • funny

  • If you pause the department shots... theres a dog in the special effects team.

  • Great music and I love the cast montage. I only wish they had included Michael O'Hare aka Commander Sinclair/Valen in the credits. He was a pivotal character in the show and the recognition would have been nice.

  • i was crying from where they destroyed the station until 30 minutes after last episode ended. :( does the movies following catch the thread again? :( hope so

  • i was crying from where they destroyed the station until 30 minutes after last episode ended. :(

  • I love that they showed each department that worked on it, and even threw in a shout-out to those of us that recorded the show on VHS when it was on. Probably my favorite outro to a show ever.

  • i so loved this show

  • I love this show, and this ending chokes me up. I just wish they put Micheal O'Hare in the ending as well. Showing him from the pilot and from the end of War Without End as Valen

  • I hate it when I hear people slamming the acting in B5. Mira Furlan, Andreas Katsulas and Peter Jurasik put in performances throughout this series that put most acting found on tv (or in movies for that matter) to shame.

  • I...I got something in my eye.....

  • First time i watched that finale I was a complete wreck afterwards. Simply heartbreaking.

"To absent friends, in memory still bright."

  • Damn it's been well over a decade and everytime I see this clip my stomach drops, my eyes tear up, and my throat gets a lump.

I'll always miss B5, the best Space Opera of all time, nothing has come close.

  • i love babylon 5 soooo much and i think that this was a great ending - it's so sad!! :'{

does any1 know the song at the end? thanx 4 the help x

  • @comedyqueen78

The music title is "Sleeping in the Light"

Very hard to find alone. It has the title to the final episode. I had the music once but it was lost to a HD failure. A great piece of music that I remember.

  • thanks for the help! :)

  • @comedyqueen78

Heh obviously your post is over a year old, but I do have the mp3 if you're interested. Well there's two, one is the music from the credits (i.e. the short version) and another is the longer 10 minute version which basically covers Sheridan's final scenes and the station's destruction. Otherwise if you're good with torrents, theres at least one B5 torrent with all the episodes, and then the music cds too, the tracks you want obviously being on the Sleeping in Light CD :)

  • oh ye s :'(

  • the BEST show ever !!!

  • wow!! after all this time, I am stilled moved by Babylon 5, the finale episode was just to awesome for words, to be honest I was all chocked up, Babylon 5 is gold fuled by magic, so much drama, so much sadness, happiness, wisdom, and truth, and the finale musical score is emotion in sound, you dont listen to the music, you feel it, love that show...

  • I don't think there's been another television show since B5 that could match the sheer awesomeness of this ending.

  • never has been, and I doubt there ever will

  • Amen to that!

  • Many have tried and failed. The last two seasons of DS9 and the new BSG are the two that pop up in my mind.

  • I just saw the last Battlestar Galactica ending and it comes very close though doesn't quite surpass this.

  • This is the best Science Fiction series.

  • I just watched the end of series 5. this doesnt fit on the end of the finale.

  • because it was originally the season 4 finale until they received word that a 5th season would be funded.

  • a little surprised they didn't put sinclair in there considering he was also valen

  • They'd have to to pay Michael O'Hare.

  • No, I believe it's more because the story line of Valen was finished, when Sincalir (and Zathras) went back with Babylon 4 and fulfilled the prophecy. To me, that's a perfect finale to the character, and anything else would've just ruined what was already a perfect 'goodbye' for the fans.

  • As was I

  • Guys, Babylon:The best series I have ever seen. Have watched s1,s2,s3 and s4.Although I have the whole s5 series I didnt hav the guts to see it. Dont know why. Started last week from the s1 and hope I ll manage to watch s5

  • I don`t know your sensitivity, pal - but although B5 has the probably best finale of a tv show ever I only can advise it conditionally!! It simply broke my heart..so incredibly sad and beautiful at the same time!! But your posting was three months ago!! You probably watched it in the meantime!! Hope you survived!! ^^^^

  • Well, truth is I didnt manage to see it again as I went on vacations.Atm, I have lesssons now and my time is soo short. However, B5 is still amazing !!!!

  • I'll admit that Season 5 is a little difficult to get through ... but despite some of the comments below I think the series finale is well worth watching. Maybe it's the fact that some of them are gone, I don't know. But there's something immeasurably touching about that finale. It was the perfect ending, in my opinion.

  • Season 5 was more wrapping up loose ends in the storyline from the past four seasons, I've heard, and even though it isn't as good, there are a few episodes I continually watch - 'A View From The Gallery' (episode 4) would be number 1 on my list.

  • I loved the finale... it was so moving. Aside from Lorien being in it, it was the perfect ending to the (almost) perfect TV series.

  • I love this series, and I love this music. I would love to download it somewhere.

I am only disappointed that they did not have O'Hare (Sinclair/Valen) in the closing credits. He was afterall the star of the first season.

  • Well, they had the final credits modeled after the season 4 credits (the ep was shot between season 4 and season 5).

  • Yeah, this was going to be the final episode of season 4 and for good. JMS got money for one extra season so they simply just saved it till end of S5. Thats why thers no lockley

  • They coulda edited it in!

  • Most thought provoking show ever made. Love this finale. RIP Richard Briggs & Andreas Katsulas, gone far too soon.

  • a big thanks michael s,5 years of great memories,i still watch b5 today and it still gives me great joy. thanks for the memories!!!

  • Christopher Franke did an incredible job with the music for this episode hell the entire series, especially the Sleeping in Light Suite (I think that is what the song is called). I can't listen to it at all without almost starting to cry.

  • I loved the way "franklin" told us about walkabot. Loved G'kar's monologs. Loved the space battles. Loved the emotions. Loved the music. And of course loved the ending credits... it can mesmerize anyone who has seen the whole series. The creators have my respect. I've learned many things for which i have to say thanks. And thanks for uploading.

  • damnit, I'm going to ruin my mascera watching this. God I love B5.

  • I slept with you the other night

you didn't call you didn't write

I think you did it out of spite

  • I've never seen a show that worked so well as B5. The ending was everything that you wanted it to be. Sounds overly emotional to say it, but I was really touched by this groundbreaking series. Great stories that moved the heart! Thanks Michael S and all the cast and crew of B5. We'll never forget you!

  • agreed

  • i can never watch Sleeping In the Light without crying, such a great ending to a greater series

  • I grew up with Buck Rogers, Star Trek OS and NG, The original Battlestar Galactica, War of the Worlds, Doctor Who. Love them all.

This is the most beautiful sci fi show I have ever seen. I watch the entire series once a year on DVD. There will never be anything like this show again. This vid had me in tears as it always has. I stopped watching tv after this went off the air. nothing could ever top this.

  • I think that happens when we really fall in love with something, we swear it will never come along again. And sometimes we're right, but every now and again, something comes along.

  • I just recently finished watching babylon 5, it truly deserves all it's praise, may it last for all time.

  • the only reason i actually watched season 5 again was to see the end, what a great ending episode

  • As a Trekker and a Stargate fan, I'll always miss Babylon 5. It has been one of my favorite scifi series during the time it oridgnally aired.

  • Watched this episode the other day. Ripped my heart right out. So awesome, yet so freaking sad...

  • We will never forget you.Especially

    Andreas Katsulas & Richard Biggs

    Thanks for a great time!!!!!

    Susan

  • morgana1975 watch tns-bsg hard to get into but very good just watch the old episodes

  • Beautiful and very emotional music... I miss TV shows like this, with a REAL story behind it, real characters, with love and hope for us all....

  • I hate non-threads...makes me miss the days of old, when everything was threaded. E-mail wise, 15 from B5 finale, and yet, even viewing ALL commments...UGH. I want true BBS's to come back. Sorry, Joel, the way the obviously "flawed" comments, email's, and such looked....never mind. I won't bother anymore. GL C

  • are you talking about mine Joel, b/c I received 12 comments about my handle? btw .. nuts.

  • No, I was asking about NewFrontiers01. Again, if you see a post that appears to be a reply to someone, you should do View All Comments to see a better threaded view to see to whom it is a reply.

Also, unless you chose not to, you should get an Email if anyone actually Replies specifically to a Comment of yours, and it would say who.

  • COMALiteJ, hate to say it, don't use that card. B/C of diversity, I know several things. Working with HFH, learned more. And if claim the holocaust never happened, plus, using diversity, I know what "nuts" in German means, but SF, prob. would have SAVED ENTERPRISE.

  • Again, C#, I was replying to someone else. You really need to get in the habit of checking that before responding.

  • ok. but I thought I was agreeing with you. I tend to scan the 20 or so comments to make sure I don't end up with my foot in my mouth. In actually, after hearing the approach that ST is taking with the new film, as a fan of both series, I feel they need to "take the horse out and shoot it". Sorry, BILL. ::HEHE::

  • COMALiteJ, who are you talking to? We know it was a 5 year novella. I admit, when I posted my comment, I was having a bad day. But, at the same time, I admit that B5 was way better than ST b/c it was a novel, beginning, middle, end... kinda like life. It doesn't try to redo itself. The characters, Delenn, G'Kar, Mollari, Marcus, ... are not recasted, they are immortalized. They are original. JMS, as you put it, was right. FAITH MANAGES.

  • csharp1976, keep in mind that YouTube doesn't thread comments very well under any circumstances, nor at all when you first come to a video (it shows the most recent ten on the first page).

I wsas talking to a Trek fan who implied that B5 was canceled after five years, and Trek has been going for 40 years.

  • The very worst episode of B5 ("Grey 17 is Missing") is still light years better than just about any of Season 3 of the original Star Trek, or Season 2 (the Enterprise vs. the Writers' Guild Strike) of ST:TNG.

  • sad part is, B5 allowed for us to learn from our mistakes. "in the beginning" showed us how ignorance will kill us. The others, they don't matter. Lost tales teaches us to extend our "trains" of thought. Worst part is, did we learn anything from the past, or are we damned to repeat it. As of today, damned is ahead. But maybe tomorrow wll be better? I don't know.

  • B5 vs. ST:TNG? I still have a trek uniform in my closet, but I eventually taped all five seasons over all my old taped ep.'s of Star Trek: The Next Generation. As much as I enjoyed Picard's wisdom and the show's creativity, the show couldn't compete with B5's amazing writing and depth, not to mention good, old fashioned story telling!.

  • Well, I've never felt the urge to put on a uniform, Trek or B5, but I wouldn't mind slipping into Lindesty. Or Adira. Or Talia. Or Lyta. Or Ivanova. Or that dusky doctor whatshername. And yes, the storytelling's good, though some of the historical and literary references (1984, Neville Chamberlain) could have been more subtle.

  • What I find interesting about B5 is not only about the drama, the suspense, but a hidden lesson...Sheridan said it many times during the 4th season...

  • People who haven't seen the whole story never really get it, some of the dialog's corny, some of the acting is wooden, but the story is brilliant and even topical in many ways (eg Nightwatch = Homeland Security). I'm sure those who've seen it all will agree it wipes the floor with Star Trek, Star Wars, everything.

  • Yes, that's it exactly - you have to watch B5 from start to finish to "get it". Watching an occasional episode just doesn't work - I speak from experience - you have to persevere.

  • You're wrong. Babylon 5 may have been a great show, but it did nothing for the world. Star Trek did. Star Trek made it possible for any kind of race to be on television, not just whites. It had the first Russian, or Asian or even black. Gene Rodenberry had a dream of peace, and Star Trek created that dream. Star Trek may not be as cool as Babylon 5, or have as many battles, but Star Trek was and is the best Sci Fi series to date.

  • True, Star Trek was groundbreaking, but storywise it isn't a patch on B5. Plus, many of the people involved in Trek also worked on B5. Majel Roddenberry, DC Fontana, Walter Koenig, Harlan Ellison.

  • Still, Star Trek has lasted for fourty years and is still coming. Babylon 5 ended after its first five.

  • Nope, there's a new movie, the Lost Tales. Personally, I think it's better that the B5 epic had an ending. So many sci-fi series get cancelled and we never know what happened to the characters, but with B5 you know exactly what happened to each main character. Not knocking Trek, it's a great show, but B5 is just much, much better.

  • I've heard of it. But its probably B5's last production, and believe it or not, I'm also a fan of B5. Just not as much as Star Trek.

  • Babylon 5 only ended affter 5 years because it was planed that way as a result this show is still popular even affter the end of the show.

  • Wrong on both counts. Star Trek ended after 3 years (cancelled after only 2, then reprieve after fandom outcry, only to be cancelled again because season 3, well, reeked ["Spock's Brain," anyone?]). There was a decent cartoon series that lasted 1 season. Nearly 2 decades later, a movie was made, then another, and then we finally got a new Trek series, with a few more to follow. But Trek did NOT actually last for 40 years. Not when it didn't exist except in reruns for half of that time.

  • Don't forget the late, great Andreas "Original Romulan Commander / Sarek / G'Kar" Katsulas.

  • Mark Lenard played Sarek and the Romulan. Katsulas was Picard's 'buddy' Tomalak.

  • Yeah, I know. I got them confused, and then couldn't delete my post.

  • bull

  • Not bull. I personally was in chatrooms with JMS on GEnie (using this same handle) years before B5's pilot premiered, when he was telling us about the series. Even before he could tell us its name (we called it "TWCBN" ["That Which Can Not Be Named"]), he made it clear that this was intended from the beginning as a 5-year novel for television, with a definite beginning, middle, and ending, all planned out from the get-go.

B5 ended because the story ended. No other reason.

  • Groundbreaking ≠ quality. And besides, ask Latinos (#1 minority in the USA, and will be the majority in a generation or so) what they think of that diversity claim.

Just curious: is your handle from the New Frontier series of Trek novels by Peter David?

  • whose handle?

  • Babylon 5 was the greatest sci fi series ever televised there has and never will be another like it

  • great finale

  • PS though the show sucked the music wasn't half bad.

  • This show was just as shitty as all human science fiction (fiction being the oprative word). I'm still waiting for one of you ape fuckers to come up with something that doesn't paint us as evil and just a human look-a-like (AKA a human in make up).

  • Selsuru, the B5 pilot was full of aliens that were totally unlike humans, but you can't go thru 5 seasons with insectoids and aliens that communicate in pictures, there'd be no dialog.

  • Plus, your "ape-fuckers" comment says everything about why you hate it so much, it's cuz the Vorlons turned out to be angels and that offends your belief in your imaginary friend, yes?

  • Those who need dialauge to understand a story are simple creatures. As to your comment on the Vorlons: that was actaully one of the few good ideas inthe show: engineering lesser species to preceive you as a deity so as to better control them was an accurate assumption.

  • **Laughs into sleeve**

  • I've never seen any other show give credit to the people behind the scenes like that. That was truly honorable.

  • But I really..... really..... REALLY love Londo.

  • You're just a nigger lover who thinks DR. Who is the greatest sci fi series ever invented. Babylon5 was a great series, but I guess y ou have to have 1/3 of a brain to understand that.Just keep worshipping your niggers and sucking their disgusting cocks.

  • You represent the top 16% of Bablyon 5 fans, vis-a-vis intelligence...

Your show sucked. It was as bad as SeaQuest on a good day.

  • PS. I fucking HATE Dr. Who....

  • I had to hold back tears when I saw this episode. Great show.

  • I cried at when John left also. :(

I miss B5 a lot. All great things must end.

  • THE best show reminds me of the best years of my life, sadly they are gone now.

  • Moves me to tears every time I see it.. Holy Crap, Babylon 5 was a good show

  • Babylon 5 is the best show ever. I can't wait for the New movie to come out. I am watching all the episodes all over again, with my Parents, as they are Babylon 5 fans too.

  • I don't cry easily but when Delenn said goodnight to John in Sleeping in Light the tears came. I just love Babylon 5.

  • thank you for posting this

  • I am a Babylon 5 fan, this episode "Sleeping in Light" is a very touching story. I cried when John Sheridan left for the Rim with Lorien. The ending credits and the misc are superb. Thank you for putting this on here.
