  • Now if only they would make songs to explain more difficult pieces of literature. There'd be no need for Sparknotes XD

  • the album art for this album is amazing. --------------------------I'm still analyzing it 10 years later and its still amazing. Egyptian symbology and their deities will fuck you up

  • @twh1114 or me at least

  • Great song

  • Also don't forget Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Peter Frampton, just to name a few more. This poem goes a long way back. I believe it is back as far as the 16 or 1700's. Based on actual events. See, us metaliods know our stuff. We tell stories, sing about issues that we go through that people can relate to, include some classical music, know how history and so much more. We put our heart and soul into our music with passion. Not like this "noise" there putting out today. Thats my opinion anyway.

  • @crzycdn70 wait, Janis Joplin? How did she influence metal?

  • @crzycdn70 And dont forget Justin Bieber, Spice Girls, Benny Hill and Arnold Schwarzenegger

  • my english teacher made us listen to this in class...thumbs up for my teacher!

  • @alex9x9: You must have a good teacher then.

  • @alex9x9 best english teacher ever

  • @alex9x9 coolest teacher ever

  • No doubt one of the best songs ever written. Amazing how 5 people can write a 14 minute song and actually prevent it from repeating the same stuff to much at once. As I always say, the artists of today are nothing compared to these guys!

  • 13:49 pure Iron Maiden!

  • I had a dream to this song once and it ruled UP THE IRONS!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song is the "Stairway to heaven" of heavy metal. E P I C lol

  • I wouldn't classify Led Zeppelin as heavy metal, but they certainly laid the groundwork for what metal would become along with bands like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath.

  • have you actually sat down to understand the lyrics there amazing

  • the poem is my favorite, and this song is my favorite among maiden's canon... amazing... thanks for posting... peace...

  • Comment removed

  • Masterful, Just Masterful.

  • @MsAlexz345 Lol that was the first time i saw a comment Being hidden :P

You shud be ashamed of your self ..

Your Thumbs down shud Read -- 5.....(measured in thousands)

  • One word !! EPIC !!!

  • 5 Mesmerized Idiots couldnt find the like button.

  • We are two mariner's, the ships sole survivors...

  • i f'en love the quiet part

  • So fking awesome...

  • However... this song doesn't ruin the poem. If anything, it emphasizes that loneliness.

  • I had to do a report on rime of the ancient mariner instead of reading i listened to this song. Got A+ Go Iron Maiden!!!

  • I love this song;however, hearing the live version first ....I have to say it is twice as good!!!! All who have not heard this song live cannot even say they have heard the song at all...seriously go find the live version!!!

  • Actually if it weren't for Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest you wouldn't really have metal at all, they are the founding fathers. And yes Iron maiden has inspired a lot of bands, and don't forget Eddy Van Halen and Randy Roads helped perfect hammer on's and pull off's, for our now guitarists.

But all in all, just enjoy this amazing song, Iron Maiden = Best story tellers ever, and if you don't agree Eddy will come and visit you.

  • @ThatGuyJenny so eddie will visit me hmm.... then wat??? make me coffe kill me wat will happen geesh lol

  • @montana62908 You know to be honest, I don't know haven't had the pleasure. But if he visits you, let me know what happens and take pictures lol

  • @ThatGuyJenny

actually, I wouldn't say Zepplin was metal at all. They are more Rock and Roll than anything else. Just sayin

That being said, all music is influenced by music of some sorts. :)

  • @BamBamn007 I agree, very good, and at least someone just wants to listen to some music

  • @ThatGuyJenny you forget Ronnie James Dio who has been around since the seventies. Truly a Legend and a Rock God!

  • @ThatGuyJenny Dont forget Ronnie James Dio!

  • this is what not to when a bird shits on you

  • First time I ever heard this song 9:15 blew my mind, I know how people like to put the starting and finishing times of the song in their comments which I agree with but that solo starting at that time is incindiary.

  • this was metal?

  • @TheOrnageJuice This IS Metal.

  • @krisroks117 Compared to some other metal out there this is smooth jazz

  • wow, now I kinda see what people mean when they say Fates Warning's - The Apparition is kinda similar....The beginning riff is, and even his voice. I love Bruce, but I almost love John Arch more...I just really love Fates.

  • iron maiden gets big boobied women

  • 3 people killed the Albatross..how can you dislike such a great song?

  • IRON MAIDEN IS THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD!!!! XD like if you agree!

  • After the classic poem, I knew this song! I was already a huge Maiden fan. and they helped me memorize the poem and get an "A" that a stoner-metalhead otherwise would not have!

  • up the mother fucken irons!!!

  • Long fucking song but awesome either way,Iron Maiden ftw!!!!

  • is it just me or did this seem much heavier in the 90s?

  • Iron Maiden always has good songs and i got a eddie iron maiden tattoo cuz there hella tight got eddie iron maiden killers

  • This song is BEYOND Awesome!

  • those two people should know that they suck.

  • 7:34<3 is the reason why i play bass.

  • Two people are related to the albatross

  • j'aime beaucoup ! magistrale !

  • im 16 and i think the 2 dislikes should have been the ones cursed by the albatross!

  • @zues619

I'm only 3 months old and I, too, enjoy listening to Iron Maiden's song, "Rime of the Ancient Mariner".

  • @zues619 So what if you're 16?

  • epic

  • 2.....2 idiots ah ah ah

  • I think these type songs taught us more about mythology then school ever did. Look at Flight of Icarus.

  • @caddop22 Maiden and Trivium both taught me a lot about mythology.

  • @dimeslimeguy I know Nile does a lot of Egyptian mythology, and they're pretty fucking kickass

  • My favourite poem of all time -- Just the fact that someone made a song out of it makes me very happy. :-)

  • its about time i can see the full version with out looking at stuff like part 1 and part 2 its a freaking long song

  • my favorite maiden song

  • Sailing Oooonnn and Oooonnn Across The Sea!

  • The bass line after the poem = now I fully remember why I liked Maiden back in the day

  • @MsAlexz345 If you think that Iron Maiden ruined it, why are you here watching this video?

  • @MsAlexz345 The poem's clearly better, I mean it's a super-famous masterpiece! This was really just a dedication to it, an allusion, a reference, whatever word you so choose. To say it ruined the poem is merely ignorant of you, it's a different perspective on the old poem. You shouldn't let a song influence you're opinion of such a "beautiful British Romantic poem;" to do so would be defeating the purpose of expression, art, and individuality. Now keep your thoughts to yourself and listen to it!

  • @JJtheJetPlan3 I don't think anyone could have responded better than you did. Good show!

  • @MsAlexz345 yes, and to add on to what JJtheJetPlan3 said, the ambient instrumental with poetic interlude starting at 5:11 really seems to accurately reflect the atmosphere that Coleridge was trying to set. You should have been able to hear that yourself, that is, if you even gave the song the chance.

  • @MsAlexz345 Obvious troll is obvious.

  • @MsAlexz345 hey, at least it spreads awareness of said poem!

  • @MsAlexz345 Yeah, but I just studied for class in under 14 minutes. LOL

  • @MsAlexz345 Oh shut up, you haven't even read the poem obviously...The poem isn't a romance it is about an old man who has to go around & tell a story about how he killed an Albatross & his whole ship crew died...

  • @Lexia01 Actually, MsAlex is correct. She doesn't mean Romantic in the way we ignorant people think of it nowadays as being of love. The term Romantic decries emphasis of the common man, and Samuel Coleridge was of the Romantic period, along with others like Shelley, Wordsworth and Keats. Also, the poem may be shallowly thought of in that sense, but what the poem is really about is crippling loneliness. So yes, this is a Romantic poem. Look up the Romantic period sometime.

  • @pathend Oh okay I didn't know I apologize. We learn something new everyday. lol thanks

  • @MsAlexz345 Way to ruin a perfectly amazing session of listening to Iron Maiden. Idiot.

  • i was playing my guitar to this song

Up the Irons!!! from Vancouver, Canada.

  • @greggreg44 Great opinion, but a false one... Up the Irons from Wales.

  • @JordanEvans3794 How can my opinion be false? It's a opinion! You sir are confused. We're both obviously Maiden fans so, carry on.

  • @JordanEvans3794 An opinion can't be false it's a person's thought only a fact can be false or it can be true. A thought can't be false.

  • The part from about 5:00 to 7:30 or so is immortal.

  • This song is a masterpiece!

    13 minutes of pure awesomeness!
