@mindthreat44 The Buell Thunderstorm engine has high flow cylinder heads and a more aggressive cam profile. Piston size and displacement are still the same. If I'm not mistaken, the Buell drivetrain also has a light-weight flywheel allowing the engine to rev quicker giving much improved throttle response.
same xl engine. buells are just hopped up sporters. buell xb1200 is 94hp xl 1200is 72hp. also buells weigh 350 lbs xls weigh 500lbs. Buellsters are very badass.
Glad to see this bike,i have a Triumph Tiger 900 triple motor which i'm going to make a bobber with,i have a Yamaha R1 back wheel(widest thing i could find) and a Suzuki Katana front wheel, both 17 inch so i could use some wide sport bike rubber on,i wasn't sure how the modern tri spoke wheels would look on a bobber, well thats answered now, they look great, thanks.
This bike is ridiculous. Aside from being glossy and having a buell motor, rather than the sporty, this is exactly the bike I want to build. Well, I guess I'd like mini-apes, too, but that doesn't matter. What's the frame?
That seat looks rough on the tush, especially if you accelerate too fast and scoot back onto that rear wheel. Needs longer pipes. Otherwise, this is ONE BADASS MACHINE!! Heads are huge looking.
Nice job, I been actually looking at Buels for what they are. I saw one on the street, and Id be proud to have one stock. Very cool, like a modern Mustang or GTO, Still a muscle bike, but a crotch rocket. The one I sqw was all sleek like an F16
I'm now using the stock pipes. i was thinking of switching them to the straight flow type. people told me that i will lose the low end pull. is that true ? will i have a better top end power with teh stright flow ?
sHORT PIPES WILL KILL uR POWER BAND. U need some back pressure that longer pipes give ya..with shorties like U got there Ur power band is very narrow....ruins performance...ya U need longer pipes..
nice bike man, i got a 2002 buell s3 thunderbolt that im wanting to convert into a bobber similar to this one. im pretty rook when comes to this but im looking for a paughco frame. is there anything imperticular i should be looking for?
If you are planning on using the Buell wheels make sure you find a Paughco that will accept up to a 180/200mm tire, the standard 35 degree Paughcos accept up to a 140mm. We ended up using a standard and fabbing our own rear clip to take the 180mm.
bunch of losers had to delete my comment from a while ago. You guys suck and dont know how to ride so you put around un ugly ass bikes that dont corner and you cant do anything on. If I forget how to ride that what I will do.
why do you give a shit about cornering so much? So fucking what if you can corner. Wow, the corner master! You're bike is the ultimate cornering machine. Go eat shit, I can ride my bobber across country if I wanted, fuck your standards. That bike will get the job done unless you're a pussy that can't adapt to different styles and tough it out on a bike like that. You're one of those guys that thinks his specific bike is god's gift to whatever the fuck. No one gives a shit.
you what??? just cause you can only get plastic fantastic bikes round corners wow why do we all want the same factory fresh bike, this bike will go round corners that is if you know how to ride a bike.

Harley chop 1969 is bisexual. He was a nerd in school that now tries to act cool by rideing a chopper. You can tell hes stupid uneducated white trash by reading his language that he chooses. I knew him growing up and hes definitely jelous of me and a moron.
This bike looks like it has a reasonable seating position, most buell choppers look like two-wheeled iron maidens rolling down the road (the torture device, not the band).

Cool bike, but I own a buell cyclone. Its a shame to see one cut up for the motor and put into a bike that is not as comfortable, and doesnt handle near as well. The buell would leave this in the dust on the corners.
Ok it handles like crap, can only ride for about 15 minutes before you have to get off. And looks is a matter of oppinion I wouldnt be seen on a bobber. Not my style. If you not skilled enough to take the corners and ride a buell to its potentual then I guess you can turn it into a bobber
The real shame is to see a Harley motor in a sportbike in the first place. Great job comparing a bike built to handle corners with one that is not. As far as sportbikes go Buell's are pieces of shit, so I guess it's fitting that you own one. If you ain't down with the DTP go fuck yourself.
Im not sure if you acquired the frame through someone else or if you baught direct from paughco. But If you did could you tell me what the model number is cuz their site navigation is kinda confusing.
Nice bike, i love the frame Gotta scrap together some cash. to assemble. Might even use that frame. gonna throw in a motor from the 99 thunderbolt. But i think I'll use an inverted front end From a Drz400 SM.
Nice bike!! Belt drives are cool!!! I own a Speed Triple, and have no choice but chain drive. I'd LOVE to enjoy the cleanliness, good looks, and no-hassle character of a belt drive...
very interesting combo, love the bike! i want to build my own bobber one day...but imma have to wait till i graduate from college and have some spare money!
hands down the best buell bobber i have seen. i like the look of the belt! did you build this yourself? is there any "kit" out there that would make this BEAUTY of a bike achievable fore a mere mortal? i would love to do this one day to my XB. killer bobber bro!!
Really really neat bike! As a matter of fact im hoping to do the very same thing....i first saw the idea about a year ago.... theres a kit that comes with almost everything youd need to do something like that to a new buell.....Great job dude...you gotta love those bobbers!
The frame has a 35 degree rake and standard stretch. We replaced the big twin neck with Buell cups so we could run the thicker forks. The frame is widened at the rear to run the Buell 170mm tire, it will take up to a 200mm. The motor supposedly makes 101 hp from the factory, hopefully we freed up one or two extra with 1 3/4" open exhaust and carb tuning.
what year paughco/sportster frame is this,i have a 77-86 frame will that fit a buell motor? and what year buell motor is that? im looking to build a buell now ,is it a fuel injection convertion. killer bike!!

BikerRussell 2 years ago
The Sporty will put out high 60s, low 70s while the Buell 1200 makes between 84 -94 horse, depending on year, and the injected makes 101hp.
