@Visualsilva If you look in the "more info" section you'll find a transcript of what I am signing. This particular video was a review that made for my students that had already learned the signs and is not intended to teach the signs to someone who doesn't know them. :)
I'm sure someone else has already said this but it would be helpful to have the words next to you while you sign instead of scrolling down to the more info section where you can no longer see the video.
though this may just be a problem for me because I can't figure out how to get the video to not be on top.
The old layout for YouTube had the more info section to the right of the videos. So it was easy to watch the video and read the words as well. Keep in mind, this video was done as a review for my high school students - not intended to teach weather signs to others. So, as a review it works great. Check out my website - the videos there are intended to teach (rather than review).
You sign a lot of things ever so slightly differently than we do where I am from (Utah). Where are you located? I would love to show my students this as an example of regional differences.
There are quite a few variations for many common signs. Some are related to region, some are related to personal preference. The signs I chose for this video are ones I most commonly see used. I've lived in California, Utah, and currently in Texas and those areas have influenced my signing style.
That makes a lot of sense. The variations are only slightly different. For example: the way you sign sun and rain are so close to the way I sign it, it is difficult to really describe the difference, but if you were watching for it, I think you would see it. I'm teaching ASL now, so I think this would be an excellent way to show the difference between signers. Thanks for your response!
Exactly. For example, the sign for SUN could be signed with the index finger (as shown), can be signed with the FLATTENED-"O" shape (very similar), can be done with the "C" shape tapped near the eye, then above head, etc. It's quite likely that when I redo this video (I'm in the process of creating a website for teaching ASL) that I'll show many more common variatons.
BYU - Brigham Young University, which is located in Provo, Utah. It is well-know for its undergrad classes as well as its sports programs (football and basketball especially).
I read somewhere, and now I don't recall where, that "ice" is usually fingerspelled. Would that be ice as in ice cube, and maybe the weather condition is "frozen?" Just wondering.
That's correct, ICE is often fingerspelled. the sign I used is frequently used to show something as FROZEN (as in ice). For some, the two are interchangeable.
Im just excited I figured out humid from context without looking at the key!
