  • I just kills me that a blind man can play piano better than me.

  • nice way to get the feel of the song you can then change to any key you like

  • It's nice to have all levels represented to help people at all playing levels. Why do people spend time criticizing others who post helpful vids on youtube for FREE?

    Thanks

  • All know better but don't post any useful tutorials.

    Good job, helped me out

  • Thanks for posting this. The sheet music for Ray Charles' "What'd I Say" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.

  • all fucking asshole why dont u show up your videos? at least ken tried to help us to learn through this tutorial! show some respect men if you have some videos that accurate to what ray charles playing then show us!

  • Thanks a million times over Ken for a very generous and patient tutorial. Ray Charles is the primary reason I want to move from classical study into boogie and you just made it sooooo much easier for me.

  • wrong voicings, wrong key, worthless video...

does anyone know where can i find a real tutorial ?

    thanks

  • @a2gigolo a bit rude, aren't you?

  • @misspellicula I agree...the rudeness was not neccesary. He is probably frustrated because he wishes he could play ;~)

  • this is good cause Ray charles is not simplified by any means and it's hard to just jump in and play his music with the quality it deserves so thank you very much for making it nice and simple so that people like i who are self taught have a better chance at learning at least the basics to eventually make their own style with based off of his.

  • This just isn't an accurate replication of the original.

  • very helpful thank you very much

  • i can barely see what keys your pressing, switch your style up

  • The riff is wrong. Ray never played it this way in any key. The riff begins with an alternation between two intervals: 1 & 3, 7 & 2. Note 3 is major and 7 is dominant. This video is simply wrong (in any key)!

  • This is pretty ordinary, you've just played the simple part. What about the turnaround riff at the end of each stanza? It's a bit more complex - and that's the one I'm after.

  • this is the way jerry lee lewis plays

  • If Ray Charles were alive, he'd be telling people to play the song in whatever key is right for the singer. It plays fine in C. Thank you so much for this lesson. It really helped.

  • I believe Ray Charles plays this in 'E' and not 'C' - hey, but it does show people learning (who would play best in 'C') how to do the Jerry lee version.

Glad you posted for that alone.

  • timing is all important with ray charles' style. not got it at all.

  • This is most probably the Jerry Lee Lewis version, since you play it in C. Play the three chorus intro (note for note, and in exact tempo), like Jerry Lee did. And I will be convinced. But this is really crap.

  • He may be right, but I like the lick anyway. Thanks.

  • mmmmm no,

with the left is another pattern

  • 2nd inversion I, IV, V moving the root to the 7th...... have fun!

  • sorry I'm French but can I play this music with a little piano?(only 26 white)

    very good video !

  • ça a l'air de nécessiter plus de 26 touches - environ 28 ou 30, je dirai. Mais la main droite à elle seule n'a besoin que d'une douzaine de touches

  • Good video but you need to get it from a different angle beacuse we cant tell which keys your hitting. But great video your really good :0

  • not even right.

    really bad version sorry

    but thanks for posting

  • true!

  • Thanks really helps appreciate you posting the video

  • Thank you so much. That was great!

  • cheers for this vid its good though it is more like jerry lee lewis version than ray charles thats ok with me because i play in C anyway :)

  • not only with this video but to others as well.now that i found this site i'll be downloading lots of piano video clips for my future reference.thank youtube.happy new year !!!!!!

  • It's cool!

  • You're playin' that IN C, sorry

  • Ray Charles plays that in E! You're playin' that is C, like Jerry Lee Lewis :D
