  • great ! and still rotary !!! ( in other way )

  • Awesome!! I really want to build an electric RX! sorry if this has been covered before or linked to already, but do you have a build documentation or a total amount that it cost to build this?? Great work!

  • @landon303 I don't have any documentation anymore as I have abandoned the DC drive. I got the batteries for free from my employer (used airplane NiCd cells). Total cost was around $4-5000 including the shell, but the development cost was more than that. Could have done it for less by just buying a controller off the shelf.

  • @AudiMouse Oh cool, thank you for the speedy reply. This encourages me even more for the project =), given your price. Thanks again!!

  • what wast of an rx7

  • LoL at the rotard comment below. The rotary is a gas guzzler and heavy HC emmiter. Its about as clean as a 2 stroke chainsaw and gets the same gas mileage as a 4x4 V8 truck of the same vintage...despite the huge weight and aero advantage. You can find FCs on craigslist all day long with the "great rotary engine"...usually blown up and <$500. Kudos to you Audimouse for this project, because who really gives a shit about another easily-duplicated hotrod gas burnin car.

  • R.I.P FC

You were a great rotary car now ur engine is gone

  • Engine was toast when I bought it. Sorry :-p

  • Oh :(

  • @driftking1308 yea and besides if he wasn't going electric he'd be better off going with a V8 anyways! hahahaha, i knew you'd love that you ROTARD. All this coming from a guy that used to be obsessed with them myself, I've had 5 rx7s and look at my username! I did put an LT1 v8 in my FC, but now I kinda want to sell it and do one of these projects, looks like fun!

  • You might be able to get cheap batteries if you go to a dealership/shop with a load tester and check batteries in their junk pile. If you find any promising ones, offer to pay the core charge. That's what my golf cart runs on. 12 car batts. 6 buddy pairs in series (72volts).

  • Hmmm, good idea! I might have to try that.

  • Very good job!

So how did the controller test out under road driving conditions?

Would you share any secrets about your much battled homemade controller?

    Thanks!

  • EV IS THE FUTURE !

  • what ? 70 miles for 2$ of electricity. who cares about the imposibility of san diego to L A !

  • Great work! Do you have a website about your build?

  • Thanks. Nope, no website for it, unfortunately.

  • Congrats!!

Oh I see the PT Cruiser in the drive there.

One the most inefficient small cars I've ever had to drive.

Chrysler engineers must have worked hard to design the car not only so it's underpowered but also make it consume roughly twice the fuel of a Toyota Corolla.

    They must be proud.

Your RX7 converted without millions of dollars worth of development:

    Now THAT'S impressive.

  • Nicely done mate!

  • how many miles do you think you will get out of the batteries?

  • The battery pack I've got in there is relatively small, only 40ah nominal, and the cells are of an unknown condition. I'm hoping for 10 miles.

  • Great work, what type of Motor are you using ? and have you posted any ingo for all somewhere ?

  • The motor is a modified forklift drive motor. It's from a very old Baker forklift, and was formerly rated at 36v. Advanced the brush timing for the ability to run 120v.

  • Congrats!

  • sweet! glad to hear it's sounding MUCH better. ;)

  • Nice to see it rolling under it's own power ! I'm still interested in your controller J.W. :)

  • nice job! looking forward to seeing the finished product!
