  • This was one of the songs used for the vidoe we produced of my father after he passed. It was ofhis and mom's favorite songs.

  • Recorded July 1, 1942

  • Sweet No ! the month I was born.

  • A heart that's true, there are such things

A dream for two, there are such things

Someone to whisper "Darling you're my guiding star"

Not caring what you own but just what you are

A peaceful sky, there are such things

A rainbow high where heaven sings

So have a little faith and trust in what tomorrow brings

You'll reach a star because there are such things

(Just in case you don't know the words and want to sing along) :-)

  • This is absolutely beautiful, I'm a teenager and I love this, where have the times gone? . . . I keep feeling like I was born in the wrong era. I love Frank Sinatra... this is all just so awesome. Thanks for posting the song.

  • @DallasWinston116

That's a beautiful comment. I'm a senior, and I want to thank you for posting it. Through the magic of science the great voices of the past come alive. Everything old is new again.

    God Bless!

  • i would do anything to live in this time period

  • I's give anything to live in this time frame with my boyfriend. <3

  • Awesome.Frankie at his best. TY trooper7h for posting.

  • hahaha how is one person gonna dislike this. ONE. PERSON.

  • justin beabers sucks balls this is real music

  • A real gem. The early Frank Sinatra backed by Jo Stafford and the Pied Pipers. What a lineup! Thanks for posting this.

  • Not 1940 -- recorded 1 July 1942 in New York (RCA studios, 155 E. 24th St.). Issued on Victor 27974-A.

  • @rojoknox That's exactly what I intended to say to our uploader friend, but since you were there before me... A very nice song, nevertheless.

  • The one person who disliked this is deaf.

  • got here from wikipedia, List of number-one hits (United States)

started from1940, working my way forward. up to 1943. :)

  • mr.sinatra is one of my all time favorites i do like different music from all generations

especilyy ones that touch my senses!

  • This was recorded in 1942....

  • thumbs up if you are under the age of 20 and listening to this amazing music and hate 99% of the crap today!

  • Thank you for keeping Frank alive!

  • Wow, what Romance, what Magic. Can you imagine takeing your date to one of the Legendary Big Band Ballrooms and dancing to Frank singing this on Stage with Tommy Dorsey and the Pied Papers ! It would be pure Bliss !

  • Frank at his best... ty soo much for this

  • This light swing is great music. I love studio recordings of Frank Sinatra. Glad to know his music. It was music of my parents and somewhat too that of my grandparents. Wonderful to have it with us still.

  • Awesome! TY t 7h

  • Great song, and great quality. Thank you very much for uploading this.

  • Sir(s): If I may, at this Date and Time, state here how this very Fine Man of the Hour with Bluest Eyes proves that He had a Good Education of an American Boy. As my Dear Uncle and Others like Him used to tell Me, "Well, I can tell you got a Good Education. That's for sure." Thank you. Have a Nice Day. Godspeed.

  • This kind of music gives me such a calm happy feeling, I love it

  • The original recording of ''There Are Such Things'' by Tommy Dorsey featuring Frank Sinatra and the Pied Pipers on vocal, hit no. 1 on the charts the second week in January 1943 -- and stayed in first place for four consecutive weeks until Harry James had some crazy dream and knocked Tommy and Frank out of first position for a couple weeks -- but they picked by up a no. 1 spot with this again in the third week of February 1943.

  • This orginal version is wonderful, very vintage but listen to 1961 "I Remember Tommy" and his attention to the lyric and breath control is truly amazing!! Sy Olivars arrangements are great and timeless!!!

  • @saintcruzin I agree. Granted, Sinatra had better vocal equipment during the period of 1940-1946, and by '61 the "Daniels", cigarettes, and long nights were starting to wear his cords out, but as far as interpretation, well, the young Sinatra sang like a guy on his first date who doesn't have a clue. For interpretation, give me the Sinatra of 1953 onward any day of the week.

  • Beautiful! I love Sinatra's songs with Tommy Dorsey.

  • I've got the 78.

  • My parents had an old Frank Sinatra record that I used to play over and over as a kid. It was music from his 1930s era. Those were beautiful songs and I loved his voice. But this is even more beautiful!! Thank you.

  • The Four Aces did a magnificent version of this circa 1954. WHAT, 54 years ago! What has happened to music?

  • @ashydashers

    "What has happened to music?"

It went into the ditch, never to return. Lucky us who were around at that time.

  • @jayseah32 . Not in the ditch at my place, within 3 metres of where I sit right now are about 18,000 78 rpm records of music from 1930-1959. I did an experiment during the week to see what quality can be achieved on YouTube. You will find the result in ashydashers list. It is about a comic character called Ginger Meggs.

  • One of the great, great ballads of another time...The Big Band era if the 30' and 40's was simply the most romantic and heartfelt music for all times...Thanks trooper for doing your part to prolong it and keep it from becoming an after thought...

  • I love this music. My paternal grand parents were just 20 when this song was released. My grand parents listened to lots of music, including Crosby, Sinatra, Clooney, and Stafford, among others. I think it must have been great to flip a switch and catch a broadcast of music that was worth a cent while being less than a half-century old. There is not much living music nowadays that compares, that is, music being composed and performed today. I used to listen to Celtic music, but no longer...

  • Geeez, I'm thinkin if this was pop music in 1940 no wonder there was much less ADHD in that time, this song flows like a river and you can actually think while it's playing. I'm guessing there was much less TV as well, or probably none. Thanks for posting.

  • dickwa,

Thank you for your comment - which proves that Musical talent spans the generations,

    best wishes,

    trooper7h

  • Sorry, this was recorded in 1942!

  • @trooper7h I LOVE FRANKIE & THE BIG BANDS !!!

    THANKS!!!

  • @dickwa no my grandparents could not watch tv in this time but they had this guy to listen to...pretty good...no tv until 1949 in ppl's homes I believe..

  • @dickwa No TV only radio.

  • @dickwa - Re: the TV. Television was invented in the late 30's, but because of the depression and then WWII it did not become a reality for most families until the 50's. In my own family we didn't own a color television until the 70's.

  • Hey Elly-Jo: One of Frank Sinatra's oldest fans and a former "Bobbie Soxer" who first saw Frank at The Paramount in NYC in 1941.

  • Man, I love frank sinatra. I girl can really fall in love with his songs...:-)

  • I was in my going to turn forty-one that year. I bought this record and I fell in love with Frank Sinatra.

  • If you don't mind my asking, how old are you now? I am just curious.

  • So are you saying that you are 109 years old now?

  • dont know how old he is but it looks like he has something for mens feet

  • Another great song of the inimitable.

  • AnInfant,

And there is more to come.:)

    best wishes,

  • Какой теплый стиль хора. Прямо Глен Миллер но без труб, а вокал

What a warm-style vocal. Like Glen Miller!

  • eugrita,

The band Leader - Tommy Dorsey - Played the same instrument (trombone)as Glenn Miller and they were both from the same period in time.

Thank you for your comment all the way from Russia.:)

    trooper7h

  • One of my all time favorites.

  • rhapsodyinblah,

    Mine too.:)

    Thank you for your comment.:)

    trooper7h

  • Aninfant, I'm glad you can see there is a lot of uneducated people out there when it comes to music, not all people, but unfortunately more than many. There claim will be it is an opinion, and for sure everyone is entitled to their opinion, so end of story. In regards to the young Sinatra, believe or not, most people do not appreciate him at this period in his career. Thanks for posting. There is only one Sinatra !

  • sherom,

Frank Sinatra's professional career (headline Singer and Actor) spanned 55 years...That pretty much says it all really.

    'Nuff said!

Thank you for your interest and your comment

    Best wishes,

    trooper7h

  • this song makes me go aaaww

  • This song always brings a tear to my eye for some reason it's just beautiful

  • DevilWorhiper666,

Frank singing this song had that effect on millions of his fans.

    Thank you for your comment.:)

    My best wishes to you.

    trooper7h

  • I SERIOUSLY feel despondant about music, when I see only 26 5-star ratings on youtube for Sinatra and over 1000s of 5-star ratings for those "wanna-be nobodies" that sing nowadays.

I hope people don't forget the REAL artists (like the one who is singing here!).

  • AnInfant,

I agree with your comment and to make it worse Frank's video uploads are being blocked and removed by an ever increasing number of copyright claims.

    Thank you for your comment.:)

    best wishes,

    trooper7h.

  • i TOTALLY agree, There will NEVER be another voice like Frank Sinatras, and most people don't have the ablility to recognize such talent. No one even comes close to him.

  • Check out Sergio Vellatti on this site. You may be pleasantly surprised.

    Cheers.

  • I agree 100%, but then again its not Frank Sinatra's age any more.

  • "So have a little faith and trust in what tomorrow brings......" These words mean such a lot to me.

I adore this song - especially this version of it.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Corrie121,

Music was meant for sharing and it is my pleasure to share my collection with people who share my tastes in music.:)

    Thank you for your comment.:)

  • I always found the late thirties/early forties/ww2 period fascinating...

  • Anarchist86ed,

I count myself very lucky to have lived through those times.

    Thank you for your comment.:)

  • Thanks for posting this great song!! It's sad that music like this isn't being made anymore.

  • cruiser1947,

Yes, it is sad that this great music is no longer being created in the great American Songbook.

Thank you for your interest and comment.:)

    trooper7h

  • Man, this song does it to me every time! Still trying to figure out what it does...but whatever it is, it's grand! There will never be another Frank!

  • Where is "THis Love of Mine" which was the #4 song across this country this week-67 years ago?

  • Interesting version but I prefer the one that came off the double album that was released around the time of his death.

  • Thank you for your Comment. :)

    My best wishes to you.

  • 123Rockchild comment i echo! :)

  • Frank had such an "angelic" voice in the 40's.

    And that innocent looking face!

No wonder he made the women swoon! *sigh*

  • Hmmm!,

from your comment it seems that his magic still works. :)
