After a hurricane we didn't come home until we knew the road was cleared to get to our home by then it had been 7 days after the power went out. I had frozen bottles of water like you and the still had ice in them all the food in my freezer was still good enough to cook so we distributed the food to those that by then were through their freezers food. See post hurricane most here dont need food till after about 2 weeks but past that all that food is gone. Mother&ILaw was thankful for cold water.
@cdltpx If more people done this they could handle alot of emergencies better. Of course what helped was NOT OPENING the door on the freezer so warm air couldn't get in to start the process of thawing. People keep opening the doors and naturally, everything begins to spoil.
I do the same things but my bags never turn out quite as well !
Some of the foil snack bags work for crochet - some don't - found that out when attempting my son a crocheted car cover -some snap at the seam the min u try to work it.We used a foil bag to transport hot food 8 miles in -20F & it was still warm when we got it there!AMAZING!
The folks at Elmers told me that there is no spray adhesive that will stand up to solar heater temps. Just so you know. They suggested silicone caulking.
Love this idea with the chip bag. In grade school in 70's, we were taught how to make a solar oven using a metal coffee can. We made a conical solar reflector, and lined it with aluminum foil. But if I think it would be a great way to recycle and use your chip bag idea for the reflective cone to aim waves to the coffee can cooker!! Brilliant and hot!!!
I weave the plarn on a loom to make awesome fabric which I later sew into things like totes. I'm looking for more ideas with the Oat Meal Containers. There's not a lot about repurposing those. Although I'm not in the habit of saving stuff "to use later", I decided to hang on to them this time and see if I could find something on the 'net about reurposing them. There's not a lot on the subject so I'm looking for more ideas.
I was looking for a video for crocheting a grocery bag and found your video. My aunt used glass jars to store tuna salad, potato salad, etc. I really like your grocery bags. I'm cutting and making plarn now. Thanks
This has been a very insightful video, thanks. I put bottles in my freezer all the time for electric emergencies and camping. I have never seen the plastic bags, bags...lol. Nice.
These have really helped when our power was out for several days at a time. I have a large old upright freezer, so I have plenty of room to put them on each shelf along the sides. I also use long plastic containers to make more shallow blocks of ice to lay on TOP of my meats to keep the meats from thawing out too fast, since cold travels down. my freezer doesn't kick on and off much since I started doing this, it does indeed reduce energy.
I recently discovered your channel. I have enjoyed your videos. lots of great tips and information. Thanks!

Oh I am so jealous of your local stores...all the bags we get around here are white and brown--no blue. They look great made into plarn!
Thanks for sharing.

You might try Lithium batteries. They don't develop memory, like others.

Not only do you recycle items for other uses you're frugal when you buy them. Save-A-Lot Rollin' Oats!

I also fill the bottles half full in the freezer then fill them up with water and go. They keep water extremely cool for long trips. excellent tips.

I have done that too. no need to buy bags of ice!

keeping your freezer full also reduces energy consumption...great tips..!
