Silesia voivodeship is not a synonym for Silesia region. Silesia lies in those Polish voivodeships: dolnoslaskie (Lower Silesia), lubuskie (Lower Silesia), opolskie (in most part its Upper Silesia, also: Lower Silesia in the West), ślaskie (Upper Silesia in West, Little Poland in the East).

Częstochowa, Żywiec, Sosnowiec and Zagłębie Dąbrowskie - this is not SIlesia region, however those cities are in.. Silesian Voivodeship.

Administrative region are not consistent with geographical region(s).

You guys, silesia and pomerania had been stolen by soviets and so have poland's eastern parts. pomeranian was formally baltic. and now, in silesia and pomerania, they're german-Polish and must be annexed to build up relations with poland and germany and then give Poland's eastern shit back. east Prussia should be polish too, since it was not really german but was a colony.

And how exactly would you propose to do that? For the Poles it might sound like a good idea given that they were a larger country prior to ww2, and had Europe's most fertile farm land in the Ukraine and one of its cultural and economic centers in Lwow. Its ironic that the Germans wanted to increase in size in ww2 and instead ended up contracting in size at the end of it.

Polonization is only relevant during the Commonwealth (also, mostly among the nobility), most of which Rossija stole.

Lviv was Lwow before the Sowjets killed or expelled all the Poles.

My native land, I loved living in Pszczyna on Rynek near the palace and playing on it's grounds as a child before moving to Bytom. My favorite places to be were Eagles Nest area, Beskidy and Park of Culture where the outdoor pools were shown. So beautiful there. I miss Silesia and Poland so much!

Me too, I travelled from Australia to Poland in 2006 and stayed in Bytom for 10 days. Love the peole, food, beautiful country and wonderful buildings. Krakow is my favourite city. Greetings from Australia.

Bytom was once a beautiful place but much of the city is not in great shape now. The best part of Bytom were the people who were so gracious and friendly to a couple of Aussies. We stayed in a flat near the city hall and walked through the lovely park everyday, past the tennis courts and into to the city. You must miss it. We were there in July and the weather was great. Also went to Jasna Gora, Warsaw and Auschwitz. Krakow is so beautiful Wawel castle, St Marys church etc - stunning city.

Thanks! I know exactly where you stayed. I loved that park, it was my hangout every day, the kayaks on the lake there, swimming pools and I used to sit so often on the bench right across from those tennis courts. This park used to be so beautiful in the 70s and in the center square used to be trees, a fountain and benches. I lived on the street right off that square. Now it's just cement. Statues in the park were removed and little old church in the park set on fire, it was oldest in Europe.

I know that square BytomGirl, we went to a restaurant there and had pig knuckle - wow it was huge.!! I would loved to have seen the square with the trees and fountain. When are you going back? When did you move to USA? By the way, have you touched the bell in Wawell Castle and seen the fire breathing dragon, the black Madona in Jasna Gora - these are some of my favourite memories along with the pig knuckle :) I loved the trams in Bytom and the best cheese cake in the world.

It's uually not the kind of city turists chose. I left Bytom 30 years ago for my American husband who just served me divorce papers last night. There is nothing for me here now. I am thinking of going back to Poland. I love Krakow, might go there to stay Which bakery was the cheescake from? On Podgorna street in my building?. It was wondeful.

Yes it is that restaurant on the corner.!! Yes we have friends there and so pleased to stay off the tourist path and meet ordinary Poles. If I were to live in Poland then Krakow is a wonderful choice - can you hear Poland calling you back? :) The bakery was out of the city past the coal mines and on the way to the new shopping mall. The cakes were unbelievable. I have grown very connected to Poland and the people and I hope to go back soon before their culture changes too much.

Not seen the movie as my Polish language is very limited - very difficult language to learn. What is the story of the movie? The son of a family friend of mine married a Polish girl and brought her out to Australia but unfortunately she went back home as she missed her family too much. Must be very difficult to leave family behind and move half a world away. Do you have family in Poland still?

Hi BytomGirl, I have seen a wonderful Polish movie called My Nickifor (not sure spelling is correct) which tells of a famous Polish artist of the 1960's I think. Great and touching movie with wonderful shots of Poland. The role of the artist was played by a woman, do you know the movie.?

I caught the train from Katowice to Warsaw and spent 4 wonderful days exploring the city. Old Town is an example of what Warsaw was - it must have been a beautiful city. The restoration work will take many years yet unfortunately. I had some great meals in Old Town in the cafes in the square. I don't think many Poles had met an Australian before and we had a lot of fun trying to talk to each other. Vodka seems to make me understand Polish very well. :)
